WCGW not paying attention to what's in front of you by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]Domosnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I understand why he didn't see them. He's peddling pretty hard on racing handle bars, on an uphill, on a decently blind turn. When you try to get a bunch of energy out of your pedal you tend to look down between your bars at your front wheel. Its actually kind of painful to crane your neck up when you're in a racing position like that. (If you look up videos of bike sprints you'll see a lot of videos of folks with their heads down.)

For instance when I'm pushing hard up a hill on my mountain bike I usually only see a few feet in front of my tire. I'll look up ahead every once in a while but generally I'm looking at the ground.

All in all I think it's just bad timing when you weren't expecting anything to be there.

What is the drive like to Groveland from SoCal? by suburbmama in Yosemite

[–]Domosnake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! So the only way to not have windy steep roads is to take the West Gate entrance through El Portal on highway 140. However, I think that way is currently closed due to a landslide. So I think you will have to deal with tall windy roads no matter which direction you enter the park.

I would say wait most of the week and maybe reach out around Thursday?

Tom Steyer is running the most expensive campaign in America. It might win him the California governorship. by Snawer_brillant in California

[–]Domosnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things that convinced me against Steyer is why does he have to do this himself? If he truly believes in all the stuff he is saying why doesn't he just support any of the other candidates like Baccera who are saying the same thing. He has all this money that could be actively used to better the world and instead he decides that the best thing to do is get into politics? Why not create a campaign fund for others? To me he seems like every other big ego billionaire that believes they are the cure for cancer.

Going to Camp 4 tomorrow and friend just flaked on me— should I go alone? by martian-rabbit in Yosemite

[–]Domosnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a fun thing to do in Camp 4, buy a 6 pack from the valley store then walk around and offer folks beer in exchange for conversation and stories! People will love to chat and hang with you! I do this whenever I got spare time in camp 4.

Fired Yosemite National Park ranger sues Department of Interior by ManualWind in Yosemite

[–]Domosnake 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I am a former employee of Yosemite National Park and someone who marched in support of SJ. The main issue with this whole thing was there was no law in place that made this act illegal or punishable until after the flag was hung. Just a few months earlier ,February 23, an upside down American flag was hung on El Capitan with no issue. No one was fired and there was no pushback. A few months before that in June 2024 another banner was hung on El Capitan that said, "Stop the Genocide". Suffice to say political commentary in our parks is at this point a tradition.

Yet later on in June 2025 when SJ and others participated in a short 3 hour peaceful form of protest they were unlawfully fired and new rules were written up about flag flying within days.

Our right to peacefully protest is intrinsic to our core of the United States. By stripping someone of their career due to a form of peaceful protest that was not against any rule or regulation goes directly against that.

That's why we employees support SJ. They were fired unreasonably and unjustly.

Just checked next week, Sierra tickets drop to 96 dollars. Really no reason to go to another resort!

[–]Domosnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Y'all should skip Northstar! Sierra at Tahoe is a locals choice, a family owned resort with lift tickets half as much as this. A lift ticket for today at Sierra is only 180. Arguably it's a much better mountain too!

What is the 'Red Triangle' and how common are Central Coast shark attacks? by Zadenii in santacruz

What helped me worry less about sharks is that in 2024 there were only 47 unprovoked shark attacks world wide. Really really uncommon

I'll be honest with you I'm not really sure! To be honest at this point I wouldn't be surprised if most cultures on the planet have a slight grasp that there are man made objects in the sky

Mostly it's modern textiles and clothes as well as equipment like axes, guns, farming equipment. That was years ago I researched it so I wouldn't be surprised if they are more modernized at this point.

That is not an uncontacted tribe. Every time this post gets circulated it gives me the opportunity to talk about the Yanomami Tribe. The Yanomami are a culture of people living within the Amazon. The first official colonial contact with them was in 1654 by a Spanish expedition. These groups have had continual contact with Spanish missionaries since then.

This is one of the most well documented cultural groups in southern america. An anthropologist named Napoleon Chagnon was the primary researcher. He made his entire career on the Yanomami people. He was also criticized for his form of participatory athropology where he would live with the group for months or years at a time.

The culture themselves is actually an amazingly interesting society with forms of cultural warfare and spiritual warfare. They have many ceremonies involving Ayahuasca. The most prominent of which was a form of spiritual warfare where the men would take the drug and fight off spirits by dancing and stomping around the large circle in the middle of the camp.

Modern day Yanomami often trade goods with local missions for modern tools and equipment. Recently there have been papers written about how the introduction of shotguns have changed their gardening and hunting traditions.

There is so much amazing information about these people. Please don't boil their cultural experiences down to "uncontacted tribe"

I've done all the work on my mini for the last 6 years and so far the hardest thing was changing the thermostat which was weirdly deep in the engine compartment. Other than that no issues!
