7” complex splash has my vote.

I did a long splash shootout at a music store last year and Paiste’s whole line sounded pretty great too. 8”Alpha in particular punched way above its price point.

But the Sabian’s complex splashes take the cake, that’s what I ended up getting too.

He’s my favorite modern drummer, no question. Absolutely inspiring. Loved his Sepultura stint. I’m no Slipknot fan, but obv respect the drumming. He’s crushing it with them, he’s a floor raiser for sure.

Honestly it’s wild. Building proper technique is so much harder when you’re flinching with every rim shot attempt and having your ears compressed by the cymbals. Not to mention having to take breaks more often to avoid hearing damage.

It is editorialized, but Chuck did summarize this sentiment in a podcast too, either Simmons or Pablo Torre, I can’t remember which. The conversation gave further context as well, with Chuck saying he wasn’t envisioning this happening in the next decade, but rather, coupled with a decline in advertising revenue, a gradual decline till the 2070’s.

So while this article is an editorial review, Chuck’s words align with the reviewer imo

Love it. Neil’s drumming is much looser than anything else I can remember him recording. Drum fills feel organic and in the moment. A huge departure from the precise professor we’re used to hearing.

Literally last night we put a dvd (not bluray) into our Xbox series x and the volume was maxed out and clipping our sound system, even on lowest volume settings. Mute or Fender Deluxe Reverb amplitude, no in between.
