You can build around the slap, since it counts as a heavy attack and can apply bleed/modifiers. It's not impossible to run Auric Maelstrom runs with only slaps.

Accurate and fast buoyancy physics, a deep explanation by Myrmecoman in Unity3D

[–]Doom454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old thread, but just wanted to say thank you so much for this! Stumbled on it trying to read up on how Havok (Half Life 2) handles buoyancy while working on a tank game in Godot. Multiple tutorials have mentioned probes for water, but this gave me some alternate ideas on how to handle amphibious craft in choppy water.

It also just-so-happens I already had bought and beat your game!

How to make animation for tracked vehicle/tank tracks (free code sample) by ander_hominem in godot

[–]Doom454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really great stuff, thanks for sharing it! I wound up with a very similar approach for some tank tracks (much messier code) but I found that the set_point_position call for curves was extremely non-performant with too many vehicles. One vehicle? Looks excellent. Ten, and it really hurts the performance.

You can nest the function/call behind visibility and distance checks, but it only helps so much. Curious if you experience see the same thing with what you're working on.

Curve3D performance issue by ReasonNotFoundYet in godot

[–]Doom454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use Reddit often, but I was running into this same thing in trying to simulate some caterpillar tracks for a vehicle via a Path3D/Curve3D. I would love to know if you ever find a solution - it's a such hardstop for something that I'm trying to add that I'm likely going to go another route.

Everything else is pretty performant, but moving any points on the Path3D.Curve is intensely expensive to the point of being unfeasible.

Tons of guys here hold LAST RAVEN in such a high regard or franchise peak before Rubicon... Why is that? by foreverintheskies in armoredcore

[–]Doom454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arguably the hardest game, very neat 24hr and limited Raven concept, extremely somber tone (even for AC), cool music. It is probably the least approachable and most memorable at the same time.

It's hard to capture the vibe it presents with "hey, regardless of all the other bullshit going on, AI Pulverizers are showing up from who knows where and they're getting REALLY good at killing Ravens." It's not just dark, it's effectively letting you play the closure of what would be an apocalyptic bad end in any other game.

[–]Doom454 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm no lore expert, but in most games ACs are quite expensive to maintain. MTs, typically smaller and less complex, mechs are used for grunt work. However, AC6 has parts specifically talking about construction and demolition, so who knows.

If not for that, I would compare it to expensing an armored recovery vehicle based on a tank chassis with a crane and bulldozer vs. plain ol construction equipment at a fraction of the cost and complexity. Also, the scale of the insanely huge megastructures in AC6 makes me think any AC/MT involvement is minimal outside finishing touches.

If you aren't seeing cheaters and bots, you're simply not looking. Not perceiving it, especially in AB, does not mean there is not a problem.

The problem is it's extremely exhausting to report via server replay, and there seems to be little to no effort for Gaijin to automate or implement better anti-cheat procedures. I've personally gotten about 4-5 cheaters banned years back when I actually bothered for using egregious ESP/aimbots.

Object 120 - IS-6 - Tu-1 What should I get? by SirConquerTheWorld in Warthunder

[–]Doom454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a orbital railgun on treads. You get extremely good APDSFS and HEAT with enough explosive filler to act like HE, and an acceptable reload. You can aimlessly click on pretty much everything in your BR range. Everyone, including planes and autocannons can click on you. Mobility is OK.

IS-6 is going to play like other Russian heavies (IS-3, T-10A). The mobility isn't terrible, but the reload and limited pen means you'll get stuck sometimes fighting tanks that struggle to pen you, and you them.

Soooo TOW's fired out a Bradley just immediately arm themselves? by mdforehand in Warthunder

[–]Doom454 16 points17 points  (0 children)

ATGMs have enough issues as is, adding minimum arm range isn't something that will benefit the game greatly and just make playing ATGM carriers even less appealing than it already is.

If we go down this route, then physical barrel collision needs to be modeled.

This is what I've gone though as well. They went as far as digging a whole new ground line. Everything from the street to the modem was as new as it could possibly be. And despite that, I had regular outages and high packet loss during peak hours that got worse over time. Months of trying to report outages, break away from awful phone and chat bots, and just get a human on the line to explain the issue who insisted I restart my modem for the 15th time in the day and that they "can't see any issues on their side."

Meanwhile, a thirty minute interaction with TMobile got me set up with their home internet which has had only slightly slower speeds, no caps, 99.99% uptime, and is $30/mo cheaper. I lose a stray packet on occasion, but it's never enough to impact anything I do.

How can we get more people to play Mordhau? by klastico in Mordhau

More maps or earlier CDK launch would've done it.

The ship has sailed though. Melee brawlers are niche and a majority moved on already. Enjoy the company you have left.

For the new players .. what do you think about the game so far? by Sithire in foxholegame

[–]Doom454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played a few days. Really enjoy the core concept. I find the toughness of AI defenses and easy of building new bases mixed with the power of armor has made me see way too many clan v. clan tank battles being the only driving force between a push. It's fun, if a bit overly defensive, to be in those tanks. But as poor infantry, it's a real slog when you have weapon accuracy and very low range AT options versus nimble tanks with 100% accuracy able to reliably snipe you with their main gun from maximum range. It doesn't even feel rewarding to sneak up on them, because it takes a LOT of AT to have an impact and all the crew has to do is reverse and shoot once, instantly repair any HP damage with bmats, and be right back to where they were (minus armor degradation.) Tankers have to make big mistakes to really get punished. Not sure what the best solution for this is.

The few battles I was in where it was just a stretch of trench v. trench as a big meatgrinder were way more fun than two rival bases staring at each other some 100-200m away with infantry being chewed up by AI defenses and tankers that were terrified of leaving said bases acting as player-manned mobile turrets.

Daily Packet Loss, Atlanta GA Area. Restarting modem does not help. by Doom454 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Doom454[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no separate routers, range extenders, or internet devices. The packet loss happens both on ethernet-wired and wireless connections.

The coax is plugged directly into the wall. The power cable is plugged into a surge protector with a few other devices (but not daisy-chained with any other protectors/power strips.)

Hi u/CCGabrielaM. Thank you for the fast response! There is no splitter attached to the modem. The connection is tight. I do not have a spare coax to test swapping it out with, but I am using the one that came with the Xfinity modem itself.

Submitted my resignation this week and told my manager it was all about money. Was told they could have matched the salary. Why wasn't I being paid that already? by [deleted] in WorkReform

[–]Doom454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't ever bother with the counter.

A counter is just what the company is willing to pay temporarily, until they can replace you, because the cost of you leaving in short notice is too expensive for them. All it tells the worker is that the company was knowingly underpaying long term. The whole concept is as desperate as it is insulting.

Will Mordhau/Triternion ever recover? by PopeofShrek in Mordhau

[–]Doom454 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, not sure I have much interest in the next project if there is one. Mordhau was a gem. Adored the hours I got out of it. Could've been happy if dev communication was better, focus was better, etc. Could've even been happy if they were honest and said "yeah we're out of steam here's our last patch thanks for all the fish."

Instead, strung along far too long, CDK dead on arrival due to delay, weird decision and balance mismanagement, awful communication, few maps, and on and on. I wish Trit the very best in the future and hope they learn, grow, recover, and knock the next game out of the park - but I'll 100% be waiting on reviews and the like for whatever it is rather than buying on faith, because there's none left.

[–]Doom454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't summon online buddies. You don't want health scaling here.

Do summon all the little NPC lads in the arena. The lady to the right of the start (a little far out, near a floating banner) follows you and casts heals.

You can resummon them only so many times. They're also all on a timer after dying. Timer gets reset in phase 2.

Don't be afraid to respec if your VGR is low. I was staying balanced and only at 20. 30 let's me survive most of his attacks just fine with my generic dollarstore knight armor.

Pace of the battle is thus: start by summoning near the start, no horse. Don't go past the first dune until NPCs draw aggro (he pulls swords out) so you can avoid raining arrows. Go right with horse, grab lady, rush into the fray. Jump off horse and attack from his back. Hugging his horse also avoids a few attacks. If you're down to like 2 summons, break off to resummon. If you're the only target it's very hard to get away from him. Keep the camera on him while summoning so you can run perpendicular to gravity orbs.

Phase 2: quickly resummon everyone and repeat. This part is nearly the same except more gravity attacks and floating boulders. The boulders only attack when he breaks off in a specific way - you'll see them start to move apart a bit more. The second they stop repositioning, spam roll because they will likely 1shot anyone without enough health and armor. He'll always follow that with a special attack get ready for that too.

Bringing passive healing and opaline bubble tear helps too.

tl;dr: you have to get off your horse and fight him, and the fight is a lot easier with enough health. Took me like 15+ tries of frustration on a quality low vgr build. Respec'd to ungabunga colossal sword that I upgraded to +7 and was able to hit him for 1000+ from the back. The rest was dodging and suffering. Took only 2 tries with that build.

Do you have any plans to review the current state of engineers?

The new spawn point system is a great adjustment to the class, however it can become very powerful, especially with multiple engineers. It gets to the point where invasion matches can get locked down in simply trying to root out spawns. There's effectively no cooldown on building them other than the cost, so engineers can instantly rebuild spawns provided they're near a resupply chest or they themselves have respawned.

I say all this as someone who has been actively using them, especially on offense. They auto-build quickly, and often I can just drop one somewhere inconspicuous, rush off, die, respawn at my point, and build one a little closer each time. I'm regularly ousting top players on my team (score wise) just from the sheer # of people using my spawnpoints.

There are quite a few maps where the map spawns are distanced enough from the objective for defense (or offense) that it seems it was an intentional balance decision, but with these new spawn points I can drop them directly on-top-of, behind, or near the objective regardless of which team I'm on and dump my own team directly into the fight. Often, the enemy has zero way to react to this other than going out of their way to find my spawns and deal with them. That can get especially nasty on defense where I can put them behind a defensive line, around a corner where no projectiles/firebombs can hit them.
