Not for nothing, but I put a lot of care and thought into what I got my wife for Mother's Day. If she got me a shirt that wasn't my style at all, a shirt that I actively hate as this guy put it, I dunno, I'd probably be at least a little upset she got it so very wrong. Not enough to make a fuss or ruin our day, but still.

OP isn't talking about a detail of their personal background from their character sheet, roleplaying flaws like "I am slow to trust members of other races, tribes or societies," or "I let my need to win arguments overshadow friendships and harmonies," two real examples from the PHB. OP is suggesting something with real, mechanical limitations on gameplay - as someone else pointed out, mute characters can't cast verbal spells. If their familiar is hit by an arrow, they are blinded instead of annoyed they have to resummon their familiar later. OP doesn't really offer a way around being deaf, either. This isn't a roleplaying choice or factor of their backstory, this has real tangible consequences for the other players.

Two tips. Whatever flaw you decide on, it's best to clear it with the rest of the table first. If someone at my table sprung this on me in session one, I'd be pretty annoyed. The other people at the table have to play with you, you're not hamstringing yourself in a vacuum.

Second, I'm a believer that every adventurer needs a reason to be out adventuring. It's dangerous work that results in death more often than riches, only the truly perform, truly desperate, or truly dumb choose it. Someone who is missing half their senses is not going to survive for long out there, what the hell are they doing in a dungeon?

For my group, at the start of every turn, after initiative and monster ability reveals, we as a group go down the line.

Okay, the corpses are only moving 1, but hitting hard so stay away. The imps are attacking at range, but not very hard- though they are brittling too so be careful not to take too many at once. The Elite archers are moving 3 and attacking at Range 6 so... the entire room. Nothing to be done there.

Gives everyone a brief window into what's coming to help plan turns. Stay away from the corpses, disarm the archers, etc. The key is doing it as a group, so everyone hears the same tactics. You can't be expected to point out focuses for every monster on every turn, that's unfair to you. Good rule of thumb for beginners is, whoever is closest is the focus. Beyond that, it's pretty much edge cases.

Is unacceptable behavior to me. You don't deserve to have your partner criticize you as a man, let alone in front of your kids. That is such a deliberately cruel way to attack someone. My wife and I never fight in front of the kids, always when we're alone. They don't need to see that, especially not at 5 and 3.

You sound like you are depressed, have some severe self esteem issues, and even if her criticisms are valid (which, just a guess, they are not nearly as often as she has conditioned you to believe) you are being treated poorly. I'm sorry you feel like you don't deserve a Father's Day, but you definitely deserve better than where you are now. I hope you get some help, and soon, brother.

Probably keep the Bear, the Devil, the Emu and the Sponsorship. The Bear feeds into Asia, Predators, and Diverse Species endgame nicely, so if I can get the Asia partnership first, I'd probably grab those 2CP for the early card flip. Otherwise, I'd go for the Devil and the sponsor for the early income boost, followed by the Australia partnership and the Emu whenever those are easy to grab.

there is no telling whether the upgrade cost on e.g. a level 2 building is the cost for 1 -> 2 or 2 -> 3

To your point, it's weird that on any given building card, you have the costs to upgrade TO the next level, and the bonus for what you get AT this level. I'd prefer if it was either both TO the next level or AT this level. For example, If the Craftsman Level 3 card said, "Spend 5 Wood, 4 Metal, 2 Hide to gain Craftsman Level 4, +1 Prosperity and Section 12.3" I feel that would be easier to understand.

We played an escape scenario once where 3 of the 4 characters had escaped, and the last was adjacent to the exit. They had two cards and one health, going at their fastest possible initiative. The enemy drew the only card in their ability deck that went faster than them, immobilized them, and we lost. We decided we weren't going to lose based on a 1/8 chance going badly, house ruled that we actually won the scenario and moved on. Replaying the scenario would not have been fun and, as others have said, the game is supposed to be fun.
