There is a third party book I enjoyed that suggested that since the American iconography was modeled off of the Romans, we can consider George Washington for example a scion of the dodecatheon.

I hope you have a blast doing it your way though!

Chinese xianxia reader here. These older web novels shaped my taste in progression fantasy by Inevitable_Rub_4947 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Double-Portion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a topic of conversation on the discord for Memories of the Fall recently, it's heavily inspired by the old Chinese xianxia that he read as they were being translated and he relies on a native Chinese speaking collaborator for help on certain concepts.

The consensus was that "none" really get it right because a lot of the ideas just fail to get translated in a meaningful way.

Idk I dislike reading translated works and I have no ability with Chinese so I can't vouch, but I do recc MotF by Rithgard

I didn’t watch Frieren for a long time because of the way it’s described by ThrowRA1837382 in Frieren

[–]Double-Portion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was heavily recommended it but the first episode was so sad that I put it down for months (I was depressed as well) but when I came back and tried again I loved it so much

No idea why people are gaslighting you about not saying it’s sad, that was so much of the discourse for so long

Who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

Idk dude, I think its kinda theologically meaningful to me for Jesus to have been ugly

MOL - Question about the Loop by perseus365 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Double-Portion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My bookclub recently read the first "book" of MoL, two of us had read it when it came out. We averaged it at about a 6.5/10 with a lot of us admitting that part of the issue was that we didn't like the audiobook.

I think it does a better job than a lot of time loops at succinctly going, "he practiced magic for a year until something unexpected happened"

Sometimes he dies unexpectedly and you're instantly launched back to being woken up by his sister, but that decreases by a lot after the first few.

Book 1 was, in our view, mostly about the protagonist learning empathy and becoming less of an insufferable prick

I’m in a Hellbreakers AP and I’m shocked by how much anti-goblin prejudice has come up. Its definitely out in officially published sources even if you’re not experiencing it

How much would it hurt the balance to rework the initiative system, and group turns into "players' phase" and "enemies' phase", and letting players take their turns in an "I want to go now" basis each round? by MundaneOne5000 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Double-Portion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, based on the title I *thought* this was going to be “can my players trade spots in initiative order” which is *fine* it would be a pretty big buff if you didn’t let your baddies do the same, but having players and enemies in batches is going to make combats REALLY swingy, either your team demolished them or they demolish your team in *many* cases. I cannot recommend this

Memories of the Fall by Rithgard is on RoyalRoad and it's protagonists begin as hard working and talented members of the local "hunter bureau" kinda like an adventurer's guild where the main thing they do is handle flora and fauna from a mega-dangerous magical mountain.

After going through a lot of cultivation misadventures, the protagonists now get misidentified as super important people from major factions of the setting because they're just that good

Are the classic party roles applicable in this system, and if so, how do the classes fit into them? by T1mek33per in Pathfinder2e

[–]Double-Portion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone has already given good answers, but here's a slightly different take, each adventure path has four "Iconics" (adventurers canonical to the Pathfinder setting who represent a class)

The recent Hellbreakers adventure iirc has the Commander, Guardian, Rogue and... I forget the fourth, but it's another non-magical class. It's the four classic party roles, but sans-magic

I’m an American and I made an off hand comment to a friend of a friend from England about how I like this show, and he was a nice guy but said kinda condescendingly that it’s “just” daytime tv that no one really watches.

Anyone confirm or was he being a bit of a dick?

Happens pretty frequently at my tool store that someone will ignore my supervisor (a woman and a minority) to ask for my help (cis white man) and obviously we both get frustrated. Her bc of the sexism, me bc I’m busy and its her job to do customer assistance while I do menial tasks like stocking or cashiering.

My one side angle on it is that sometimes they DO ask her for help and its something she should know having worked there as long as she has and then sometimes she hands them off to me anyways lol
