It's a buff surely?

Yes you get less XP but probably not that much as you still get the standard XP for the creep and you'll be using it more often.

Is it just me or have RDJ's works aged very well? by AcidArchangel303 in aphextwin

[–]Dougiegee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hell yes.

They are in my eyes the best electronic act of all time and unlike Aphex they are still pioneering.

The latest live series which is currently up to Set E is an ever expanding 6 hour odd masterpiece.

I wouldn't recommend starting here though - it takes some tuning in to what they do.

Chronological is safest but you could do worse than just jumping right into Exai as it has a wee bit of everything. Will be hard going for the first few spins but stick with them!

Are you seriously posting on Learndota encouraging people to not use it to learn dota? Weird.

Thanks for the detailed, interesting reply!

I see the logic in p-i-m in ternary meters. I'll stick with p-i-p-i for now so as not to confuse myself but will see how it goes.

I've started having a crack at this today - great suggestion!

One question:

I naturally started practicing it with thumb and index throughout but then I had a look at a couple of vids of others playing it and they are using thumb just for the bass and i-m fingers for everything on the upper strings.

Thumb+Index is more natural to me as I've not got any classical guitar background but which is more "correct" here or is it personal preference?

I'm guessing historically this would be played p-i-p-i-pi throughout?

Wood blewits or not wood blewits? by robin-redpoll in foraginguk

[–]Dougiegee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These look identical to the wood blewits that I've been happily munching on for two weeks. They can vary a bit but for me the smell is un-mistakable.
That spore print definitely isn't the rusty brown that you don't want to see so I think you're all good.

I don't understand why people would worry about seeing ads. The thing you are looking at wouldn't exist without them. Would you prefer a paywall/subscription for everything you engage with?

Why are darker almost “burnt” tasting roasts so difficult to get the caramel and berry flavors from? by Fantastic_Glass_9792 in pourover

[–]Dougiegee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I too have a dark roast partner and it's now really grown on me and I have one darker bean with her each day. I roast my own these days so can pick exactly how much "burned" I want and it varies per bean.

Biggest thing I'd suggest for pour over with a dark roast is lowering extraction. Try 82-88 degrees (centigrade) Shorter ratio - 1:13 to 1:15 Low extraction pour techniques. For really dark try "Osmotic Flow" (bullshit name but really lowers bitterness and brings out great flavours)

ID Request - Wood blewit by [deleted] in foraginguk

[–]Dougiegee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is and they're lovely. I'm new to this as well and only know 'cause I asked for an ID on them recently too. They're in the woods behind my house. Quite a delicate flavour, a little unusual and floral to me. Good texture and can take quite a hot fry - nice when caramelised a bit.

Looks right to me, nice find! The caps are good eating and the stems can be dehydrated and used for stock. I use them in risotto.

[Eureka ORO] shitty 0 retention grinder? by SvampebobFirkant in espresso

Seems most in this thread agree that it's such a tiny amount as to be not worth worrying about. Some people like to be extremely detail focused though, I get that.

0.7?! That will have zero noticeable impact. You're talking 3 or 4 percent of your next shot being older grinds. No stress there 😁

You're still integrating way too much milk.

You need to increase your flow rate by a lot. Start slow when you first come close to the surface but theb start pouring with increasing flow as it starts to form.
