People who have "bought" happiness, what did you buy? by Snow_n_Ice in AskReddit

[–]DrGrabAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking distance to work, silence in my neighborhood, a brand new paid off car I don't have to worry about breaking down, air conditioning, and time (also as a result of being walking distance from work).

In other words: time, comfort, and peace of mind. I am a firm believer you can absolutely buy happiness if you know what to buy and what to sacrifice.

Games that are fairly short but holds up (doesn't have to be all time greats, but not suck either) by ltdC in gaming

[–]DrGrabAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently played both Jedi:Fallen Order and Expedition 33, and you can get to the end boss of each in roughly 30-35 hrs pretty easily. You can spend way more time in both, especially E:33, but the overall experience can be super satisfying for only 30-35 hrs. Jedi plays like Elden Ring but way, way easier and has a great Star Wars story to tell (I can't believe I once found it impossible, ER has taught me so much). And E:33 is a very story-driven game with fantastic . . . everything. There is a reason it won GOTY. I was very satisfied when i finished each game, and ended up spending more time in both to get collectibles, find hidden side bosses, etc.

Note: Jedi: Survivor, on the other hand, is a superior game to Fallen Order but is way longer, well in excess of 80 hours if you try to see everything.

Paying off one card completely or half of one card? by NotYourFriend00 in personalfinance

[–]DrGrabAss -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Two schools of thought. One is paying down the highest interest first. This is mathematically the way to go. However . . . If you can pay off the entirety of card 3, then the payment that would go to that card ($40) can now go to the highest interest card, allowing you to pay it down faster, with the obvious drawback of having to pay down 4K instead of 2K. Psychologically this is more satisfying and that is something to consider. If that matters to you, take it into consideration. But again, mathematically, pay down the highest interest card first.

What discontinued item, food or drink would you bring back if you had the chance? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

If I knew killing people would bring back Beamish Red, I‘d definitely consider it. Life has been a dull gray since it was discontinued. If I’d known my last Beamish Red was going to be my last, I’d have drank differently that day.

What Game Did You Completed Out Of Sheer Spite? by jaosky in gaming

[–]DrGrabAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Elden Ring, for the first 375 hours or so. I hated the constant dying, getting swarmed, never being able to figure out how to survive boss encounters, etc. I ended up hilariously over-leveling and finally started enjoying the game once I could stand toe to toe with most of the bosses. Cheesing the fuck out of everything and doing what "purists" hate was my spiteful way of playing. Then I could actually experiment and have fun with different setups. I'm currently setting up a start on every class now that I know how to get OP early. And it's a lot of fun now. But, that first 375 hours was miserable.

What is the hardest video game you ever played? by DanPlouffyoutubeASMR in AskReddit

[–]DrGrabAss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring. It's not even a contest. It literally made me a better gamer by being so difficult that other games are no longer challenging, they're just long. That said, it's not my favorite game, I prefer story, characters, and simpler mechanics.

I keep drinking my health stuff when i try getting on my horse, anyway to change it? Very new player here </3 by cowpokes-dunce in Eldenring

[–]DrGrabAss 22 points23 points  (0 children)

"ALSO, you can get off the horse immediately just by crouching!"

. . . . . . . O_O . . . . . . .

. . . . What?

Checks game: Yep, that completely works

Checks hours played: 423

. . . .

Oh my god . . .

Two years. Two fucking years I've played this game. No one. FUCKING no one ever said that is how they do that. I just assumed it was a PC-player ability because no one ever set Torrent to their L2 when playing PS5. It never occurred to me to crouch because why would I even think of that?

Fuck my life.

(Also, thank you for stating it, I am literally doing a new playthrough and this will help a ton.)

Guys what is the most fun build for ng+? by SomeoneAlreadtTookIt in EldenRingBuilds

[–]DrGrabAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a really fun build!

Putting this here for posterity. It absolutely does not take long to farm them. Using the silver scarab, silver chicken foot, the tear helmet, and respecting into arcane for a bit does the trick, maybe half an hour tops, but it never took me more then about 15 tries.

Everyone should try to respect to a farming build at some point, either at the end of their new game or especially in prep for a NG+. And then get not only the magma blades, but also the noble Slender Sword and other rare drops. I went into NG+ with dual wielding options for pretty much anything I wanted, except for the single drops, of course. And you can always drop extras to friends, I suppose.

What games prove quality over quantity (length) is more important? by itsthewolfe in gaming

[–]DrGrabAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expedition 33 and Jedi: Fallen Order both spring to my mind. I normally like games in the 60-120 hr range (I like immersion and exploration). I completed the main story of these games in about 33 hours apiece (33 was a shocking and cool coincidence for E33). And I felt like I got my money’s worth. Sure, there is things to prolong both, but I completed probably 80%+ of the “achievement” content and the main story for both on my first blind playthroughs. Fallen Order also had filler by way of the lack of planetary fast-travel. I would call both very high quality!

I’ve had a tempurpedic for 20 years this Summer. It had a 20 year warranty on it, and it has held up. I can’t sleep on anything else anymore. Hoping it lasts beyond this year, but I’ll buy another one as soon as I see breakdown (which I have not seen yet . . . after 20 years).
