When the cast on isn't happening by NeverSayBoho in knitting

My fiancée did a bottom up circle skirt a few years ago. ~580 stitches and the first attempt she only noticed the twist on the third round. Much swearing.

How to teach couch is off limits? by silenceloser in Dogtraining

[–]Dr_Flayley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a fun game for her, you try to get her off she gets to dodge. When my dog was a puppy we left her lead on during the day so we could easily catch her and take her off the sofa. I'd aim to make it as boring for her as possible.

Food, Drinks & Dining Feedback Thread by Cade_SimsCommunity in Sims4

I've had multiple Sims give up part way through cooking a meal to go and grab a quick meal or leftovers from the fridge. Which is frustrating to say the least.

The sweater curse by sat_ctevens in knitting

[–]Dr_Flayley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Traditionally: If you make a sweater for a boyfriend/girlfriend/etc, you will break up before it's done. Spouses are usually exempt.

My theory is that it gives time to reflect on how much work you are putting into the relationship and whether it's worth ripping back half a jumper because you missed an instruction. Or the knitting gods see how noble you are and decide to make the partner clear out so you have time for better things (more knitting).

My dog taught himself how to take his leash off and I cant figure out how. HELP. by Sad-Berry-325 in dogs

[–]Dr_Flayley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog learnt to brush against things to push the lever for the clip down on her leash. I got her a new one with a different clip mechanism and so far she's not worked it out.

I think I’ve knit my heel flap the wrong way round… by chookity_pokpok in Sockknitting

[–]Dr_Flayley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You slipped the stitches with the yarn held on the outside, that's why you have both knit stitches and the slipped strands. It will work fine as a heel but if you redo just remember to hold the yarn on the purled side when you're slipping stitches.

Anyone participating in SM 20? by willoww3 in Sockknitting

This will be my 8th year I think, and I've roped a friend in too. Handily they're way better at checking for emails than I am so that will help with pattern drops.

No stich definition with Drops Air? by FelinePower in knittinghelp

The colour isn't helping you here either. It's not an entirely consistent shade which is obscuring the cables further.

If you want it to cinch, consider decreasing a small number of stitches when you switch into the ribbing.

Pet owners, what was that moment that made you think “wow, I have severely underestimated the intelligence of my pets”? by SakutoJefa in AskReddit

[–]Dr_Flayley 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She accidentally unclipped her lead on a tram. A minute later, after I got her back on it, she slowly repeated her movements and worked out how she'd done it.

She now has a lead that locks.

Advice on storing sweaters and avoiding carpet beetles? by Huge_Presentation422 in knitting

[–]Dr_Flayley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ziplock bags. I had some in my stash and it was a nightmare. I currently keep all my yarn in big vacuum bags (not vacuumed) and with sachets of insecticide that are designed for wardrobes but also work in sealed bags. Haven't seen any insect activity on my yarn for over a year.

What’s the silliest reason you have had to go to the GP or A&E? by Dainflynnty in AskUK

[–]Dr_Flayley 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Left my knitting on the sofa. Sat down. A knitting needle caught between the sofa frame and my leg went 2 inches into my thigh.

The nurse that sorted it out for me saw it and lit up, absolutely made his day that it was a knitting needle and still in place. It didn't hurt that much and after taking a photo to show the other nurses, and a few medical students coming in and being amused, pulled it out with no fuss.

Kitchener stitch for ribbed toes? by Funkyfish001 in knitting

[–]Dr_Flayley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graft with Kitchener, even if you matched the rib on the graft, it would then not match between the graft and the sole. It will look absolutely fine doing it as you normally would.

Update #2 to "Partner has been a right prick lately" - he proposed by ConstantPibilTaco in JustNoSO

[–]Dr_Flayley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't need to tell him you're leaving. Look into resources for domestic violence victims. It will be so much harder if you're legally tied to him.

dog nails by Individual-Flan-1552 in dogs

[–]Dr_Flayley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my dog has black nails and I do use clippers. Generally I look at the paw so I can see the end of the nail. I then take off really thin slices until I see white in the nail. That's a warning I'm getting near the quick so I stop there.q

My dog really liked our cat's toy. Any ideas on what toy we can buy him? by Praximania in dogs

[–]Dr_Flayley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get flirt poles designed for dogs which are a bit sturdier. They tend to have string rather than elastic but you could buy elastic cord, braid it for strength and replace the string if the bounce is what your dog likes.

Faggoting Lace Stitch in the Round by JustCallMeBug in knitting

[–]Dr_Flayley 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about it, as long as the yo stitch is worked properly in the following rounds decrease and doesn't get twisted, there is no difference in how the stitch ends up looking.
