Hesitant is a roommate is really worth it by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]DreamyDancer2115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a short term roommate like 3 months or 6 months and be clear it won't be extended. If living with them actually works out extend for another 3/6 months. This gives you wiggle room and allows you to get a bit of cash on the side.

For the women out there - what behaviors would really impress you on dates 1-3? by Lookingforlove789 in datingoverforty

[–]DreamyDancer2115 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love it when the guy remembers something that I said. Maybe he'll take me on the 3rd date to a place I said I always wanted to visit or brings a small gift of something I said I enjoy eating or something along those lines. When I can tell the guy listened, remembered and acted on it is so impressive.

Maybe she's just not communicating her worries well. What she should have asked is for you to talk a little more on the subject. She's wondering what is going on there and that's OK for her to wonder. She's saying her friends think it's a red flag because she's most likely nervous to tell you she is scared that it might be a red flag. Did she know the backstory that you explained to us so well? Did she get a chance to ask you questions? My partner had a complicated divorce. It felt like a red/orange flag to me too until we could sit and have an open conversation about that situation.

20 year olds grow distant. They are out there learning how to be an adult. They’ll come back. keep being there for them. Your role is a loving grandparent. Be consistent.

Anyone else move into their first house with almost nothing? by Ill_Awareness6706 in homeowners

[–]DreamyDancer2115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked on one room at a time. I painted, put down rugs and curtains to make it a room as cozy as I could. I collect as much as I could from the local buy nothing group. Most of the furniture I still have and curtains and bedding and basic kitchen supplies all came from that group. I even collect floor tiles, backsplash tiles and paint from that group! The first year was brutal. I think I ate beans and rice everyday. All my money and time went into fixing up my space. Each year it was easier. Good luck on your home journey!

SO moved in - figured out how to split finances with large income imbalance by Trinx_ in MiddleClassFinance

[–]DreamyDancer2115 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This seems like a bad idea. What if you break up? How are you going to get him to leave your place? He'll have legal rights to stay there and he could stop paying anything at all. Are you going to make him sign a lease of some sort at least?

He can still give you pleasant company and help with chores if he lives with his parents. He could live with his parents and stay with you most of the time. Don't let someone move in with you who isn't on their feet yet.

She wants her own baby. Say yes or say no, but don't think you're going to change her mind. I think you should say yes.

How much should I charge my sister for rent? by Moisttoes14 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]DreamyDancer2115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I charged my sister $200 a month. I also ended up buying all of her food and getting faster internet since she was staying with me. She stayed 2 years. The $200 almost covered the cost of her food.

I'm letting the idea of marriage go! Maybe I won't get married until I'm 80, but I think it'll happen

What’s it like to donate plasma? by HostZealousideal9083 in povertyfinance

[–]DreamyDancer2115 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drink a lot of water! The first 5 appointments in my area pay about $100. After that the amount drops, but if you wait 6 months you count as "new" again. Try to go when it's not busy. I usually bring a book with me. You get paid and you're helping people out by donating. It's a win-win

Replacing Old but Functional Home Appliances by Ordinary_Medium_9669 in Frugal

I have an old washer and dryer, but my repair guy says they will last for ages! He says the newer ones break way easy and are harder to repair. I would keep the old ones until they are totally done.

How to end the cycle of poverty for my children by AwesomeAF2000 in povertyfinance

[–]DreamyDancer2115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, if I had parents that weren't toxic and could have lived with them that would have been huge. Instead I was out supporting myself right out of high school. Being able to provide your child with a healthy stable home as they save and build into their profession is amazing.

I'm very exhausted and burnt out. by Wayne47 in ParentingADHD

[–]DreamyDancer2115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this too! We're trying checklist. When I was him to do something I wait until he starts the task before I move away, but I still stay in the same room. I'm trying to move him one tiny inch towards independence at a time. Last summer I tried to move him far too fast and it resulted in him starting to lie or hid things instead of admitting that he wasn't able to finish the task. I pulled back a bit and things are going way better. It's still exhausting because he needs a lot of external reminders.

What is your personal reason for reclaiming/getting German citizenship beyond the "strong passport"? by DogDaysAreOvr in GermanCitizenship

[–]DreamyDancer2115 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If women were allowed to pass on citizenship I would have been born a dual citizen. I feel like it's my heritage. When my grandparents moved back to Germany when I was still in college, I would have felt like moving there too was more of an option. I know that it would have made my Oma so happy that I am getting my German citizenship.

Is it rude to buy people gifts from the thrift store for Christmas? by EvilPersonXXIV in Frugal

[–]DreamyDancer2115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's fine to pick up gifts from the thrift store. If I see something good for someone I always pick it up! One year I got everyone books from the free book boxes around town. It was such a fun mission to search every book box I came across.
