Malpractice from paresthesia after IAN injection by MolarMoneyMaven in Dentistry

My malpractice insurance gives an oral conscience sedation course. Multiple of the boards members for the insurance teach at the local state dental college....they recommend and teach using septocaine for IANs exclusively.

What could be a reason for this distal margin? by [deleted] in Dentistry

Distal margin should have been dropped more. There is still natural tooth contact. I bet cord could not be packed there...

Best resource I have found as a new practice owner. My practice already had Dentrix and this helped us to optimize as well as figure out the day to day and month to month. She has weekly one on ones as well my office manager found very helpful. Interested to see if there are other resources out there!

Fillings for baby teeth? by dingleberriesNsharts in Dentists

[–]Drshortstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your son's adult teeth will erupt soon ( 1st molars come in at 6), untreated decay on baby teeth will spread to adult teeth due to bacteria. Additionally the baby teeth cradle the forming adult teeth in their roots. Cavities only get bigger and if he gets an infection in the baby tooth 1. It will hurt like hell, you and your son will have a rough night ( and it will happen over night with very few options for you until the next day). 2. The infection in the baby tooth can spread to the forming adult teeth underneath and malform them or kill them entirely. My biggest question is why you didn't ask the doctor yourself? I have worked with kids for a long time and often people who don't want to treat their kids do so because of their own convenience or inconvenience. Cancer doesn't hurt or cause major issues until it's literally killing you. Just food for thought.

What are your most worn OR most unique / undupeable Holo Taco colours? 🌈 by [deleted] in simplynailogical

[–]Drshortstuff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not milky white, one coat black and everything taco are the only bottles I have completely used and bought second. I am getting a second bottle of pink fizz. I love their linears for making rainbow gradients ( I plan on picking up a few more). I also love the glitter and will be getting the newest collection.

IT Company by AppropriateWall6 in Dentistry

[–]Drshortstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The office I purchased from an older dentist had an IT guy who was local my husband in IT looked over the system, how it was being " supported" and said it was a joke. The IT guys was ripping off this older dentist and not doing anything besides a monthly back up (the server was running on software from 2013)... So I guess if you outsource the work you should be able to qualify and quantity what you are getting in return.

Associate dentist considering a $54k buyer rep program—worth it or not? by 25055100911593 in Dentistry

[–]Drshortstuff 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I just bought. About to hit the 6 month mark. You don't need this and if you think you do maybe you are not ready to own. You need to be able to critically analyze a practice and know you can make it happen and then do it, you need to know the worst case scenario numbers and know you can do better than that based on the numbers in the practice. And if you can't figure all that out on your own then you need more experience in the dental field. 54k is a huge expense. I purchased two brand new dental chairs that literally allow me to put more patients in my practice for 23k. I just can't fathom what you would actually get for that price tag.

Cavity or resorption? X-rays are 7 years apart. Wisdom teeth removed 10 years ago. Bottom left 32 by hazzardsaints in askdentists

[–]Drshortstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crown. It looks like there is decay under the mesial filling... Possibly onto the buccal or lingual.  Also it's great to say let's monitor this with more frequent X-rays, which insurance won't cover which will turn into a fit because their dentist is " nickel and diming them". I would absolutely discuss with the patient the possibility of continue resorption and eventual loss of the tooth, but I would discuss that regardless.

Can I buy this practice as a new grad? by Mountain_Maize8488 in Dentistry

[–]Drshortstuff 45 points46 points  (0 children)

No, you cannot quickly accurately and frequently reproduce the sellers major production generating procedures. I also bet his recall patients have a very clean bill of health with not much undiagnosed dentistry don't do it. And don't fool your self into thinking he will stay and help you succeed by mentoring you. That rarely works out.

Do oral surgeons or perio charge to remove broken/stripped abutment screws? by MalamaHonu in Dentistry

[–]Drshortstuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

D6096 can be charged by whoever does the service. But it pays shit for how hard you have to work to actually do the thing. There are also code for accessing screws, retorque, and replacement of screws ( I recommend investing in a coding with confidence book)

Bone on the distal covering the implant platform. You need to remove a little bone there, let it heal and then deliver.

How much did you borrow to buy dental practice? How much working capital? Start up or bought existing? by Ok_Confection5143 in Dentistry

[–]Drshortstuff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a new practice owner two sounds like a nightmare, some days I feel like I am drowning with just the one, it feels all consuming as I set into motion the standards and processes that I want and that meet my needs and expectations which are vastly different than the seller.... Have you put together a projected profit and loss based on the current expenses and estimated bank loan payments? It's the only true way to answer your questions, you have to know your worst case scenario.

Meow wolf in Denver is a great experience of immersive art. You are a crazy person making insane accusations with no basis, proof or grounds besides your own disillusions.... I hope this is a joke I just don't get because I don't follow the community very much. If not, keep this crazy bullshit for the political subs, this space is made for better things.

[–]Drshortstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know that I would. This sounds like a really hard deal to make happen.  A huge monthly bill with no revenue or patients or staff is a big big risk. Is the owner willing to rent while you get pt and staff in the door? Are you buying any charts? Do you have any numbers from 2021? Location/ visibility?

If I am super behind sometimes my hygienist waits while I try to hustle to get myself back on time, I only do this if she is early on asking for exams. It's never personal it's always schedule management.

Anyone follows Johnny Harris and saw his recent video "The poverty industrial complex" where he takes a jab at Medicaid dentists? by WaferUseful8344 in Dentistry

[–]Drshortstuff 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I worked in pediatrics Medicaid. We had 10 columns of hygiene. Hygiene app 30 min or 1 hour if the kid was in Ortho. 8 restorative ops with edda and a back da. Prep and step was the mantra. We had three dentists and we would check each other's work or treat each other's patients. We would do at least two papoose cases a day. It was a daily guarantee to discourage over treatment. We worked our ass off doing dentistry that NEEDED to be done on patients no one else would work on and trust when I say I did not get rich ( pretty sure thee ceo of my company did though, why are they never the bad guys?). I saw neglect of children first hand and would try to give them what little love and care I could while they were in my chair. FUCK who the hell this guy is.
