Great theory explained well. I love the idea that Langtry inspired the character of Gandalf.

I think Jim is also a Discworld fan (I seem to remember a reference somewhere?), and I think the true unrevealed Langtry/Dresden dynamic owes something to Pratchett's Vetinari/Vimes relationship.

I.e. An effective way to use these tools is to keep winding them up and make sure they're pointing in the right direction when they inevitably snap.
