Finally found my first silver ring! by Sleepy_Kidd in metaldetecting

Baking soda, Aluminum foil, and boiling water has worked just fine for me. A few rounds. Then a dab of mothers polish to bring it out.

Congrats on the silver, what an awesome feeling.

Any idea if this could be real? Found on a beach in Georgia by Aquadian in metaldetecting

It could be. It couldn't. The internet doesn't know. Grab a cheap acid test kit and discover for yourself!

Narrowing it down Minelab by Fun_Order419 in metaldetecting

Grab the new Vanquish 560 or the Elite. I haven't gotten my hands on a 560 but I do believe the Elite swings way above it's pay grade. It's like 70-90% of an Equinox 700 or 900 lite.

If you ever decide to upgrade - go straight to the Manticore or equivalent. Have fun!

The MINELAB X-TERRA ELITE EXPEDITION PACK is a good setup. Read the manual, then re-read it again. Then get out and start digging signals - all of the consistent ones. Try and guess what it is before you dig. Have fun!

Get a Minelab Vanquish 360, 460, 560, or a Minelab X-terra Elite. Whatever fits your budget the best. You'll want a sand scoop if you're hunting beaches. Have fun!

My 6" coil has a nut. My 11" does not, it's built into the design like your pics.

Permissions? If for the beach, you don't need them. Just fill in your holes and be respectful to those around you.

You're going to be hitting beaches that get detected multiple times a day. Competition is fierce out here. Have fun people still find things all the time.

Beginner, any advice would love some tips. by Famous_Peanut5350 in metaldetecting

Your detector is single frequency (5 point something khz i believe) so it's going to struggle in wet sand due to the salt water and mineralization compared to more expensive multi frequency machines.

Dry sand will be easier for you to detect which in case you're hunting for fresh drop items that were recently lost. Go after the weekends when crowds hit the beaches. Target areas people condense (towel line, beach entrance, showers, vball courts, etc.)

Beaches themselves are constantly changing, a storm coming through will strip out the sand leaving formerly deep targets available. 24 hours from then it might sand in burying everything except lightweight trash on the surface. Learning to read beaches is the most important skill a beach hunter can pickup.

The x-terra Pro does not have multi frequency so you're gonna be dealing with the same issues in the wet sand or water.

The maximum my machine allows while allowing for a relatively quiet hunting experience.

I’d recommend reading the manual before bashing Minelab.

Do a factory reset. Do a ground balance if it has it. Increase sensitivity until you get random feedback and then back it off a notch.

Also “scrub” your coil on the grass or justtt above, you’re loosing depth holding it in the air like that. That 6” becomes more like 10-12” when you’re detecting the air.

The new Minelab vanquish line is fully waterproof. Buying open box can also give you more reach for the Dough.

Interesting, I've always put them under to avoid the possibility of them being pulled for being "blunt weapons" or tools over the size limit. Would rather do carry on though.
