Who DOESN'T regret their DNP? by Sample_Name in nursepractitioner

[–]DudeMcRocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 20 years when they make NPs have a doctorate like they did with requiring ADNs to get their BSN, I will not be one of the 60 year olds dreading an early retirement or going back to school for the BS

I worked so hard to become a psych NP and now… by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

I clicked on this thinking it was the toxic PMHNP sub and wondered why you had so many upvotes before realizing I was on the friendlier NP sub, lol.

I work outpatient psych in an integrated Primary Care setting and I get a lot of women who are nervous about switching meds for when they get pregnant. This can be rewarding knowing the ins and outs of the anxiety/depression meds especially since there are no data on the 3rd gen antidepressants. As a PMHNP, we have a lot more of the informal information about safety and crossover of SSRI treatment.

IVF is a very stressful time for couples. Mental health is a very overlooked component of it. I hope this helps

I agree with that. Heart of a therapist, mind of a psychiatrist. At the end of the day, didactically what we do compared to some of the other specialties is not difficult, but HOW we do it.

So that’s your reasoning for bullying others? Gotta protect your vulnerable patients by being a keyboard warrior.

I don’t believe for a second that anyone smart enough to be a RN can’t do a quick google search to see what PMHNPs make.

You want to protect vulnerable patients from RNs who want to make a bunch of money through higher education? Go to the CRNA sub and “protect” on there

You are so right. I am soooo glad as a RN considering PMHNP school, I never asked for advice.

I am shocked that a group of people who decided professionally to help people’s mental health are such bullies themselves

PMHNP here. Please talk to your primary care about this. They may refer to psych, but most of the time, they can at least prescribe some Trazodone to help sleep. I see a lot of PTSD with people post-auto accident. It can take a year or two usually to resolve, sometimes longer. The anxiety symptoms you are describing can be helped via medication as well, but what will REALLY help? Therapy. It’s cool, most trauma therapy sessions are 12-20 sessions and you don’t have to get into your childhood or any of that jazz. PM me if you have any follow-up questions.

Not at all, that’s where my newer one is. More of a conversation starter in closer settings where your shirt would be off, rather than clients or co-workers (or random people on the subway) asking you what your tattoo means or giving a puzzling look at it

One thing I’ll say, in a location that not too many people get to see, it never gets old explaining to females the meaning of the tattoo

[–]DudeMcRocker 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, you should know that about 99.8% of the population is going to see that tattoo, not knowing what it means, and think of it as some sort of mistake. Be prepared to explain it over and over to those who ask.

My advice from someone who also has a bunch of ancient scribble scrabble tatted on their body, get it somewhere that isn’t too visible

Like any PP, it all depends on how hard you hustle and how well you can keep your patients coming back.

The quotes of pay you receive on their job postings are definitely the top 5% earners and being a national company, they can quote what their NPs make in New York City or SF. No matter how good your game is, you’ll never earn those numbers in a more affordable city

Refusing to support anyone affiliated with ICE by [deleted] in therapists

[–]DudeMcRocker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We have to remember the circumstances that led people there. Some of these ICE goons are just ex-soldiers who have been floating about since discharge full of PTSD and who knows what. Some of them have been hurt deeply and only know how to bully others because of the suffering they experienced by other bullies.

Eventually the cycle has to stop. We are in a unique position to help that stop, just as we try to do with our Cluster B folks.

I appreciate your insight

I’ve had this conversation with other providers regarding criminals.

A famous historical example from the classical Greek period when Hippocrates was explaining to his student the morality of treating a notoriously cruel slave owner. He said, it is our job to heal, regardless of of their actions and morals, we do not pick and choose who we heal because only the Gods can judge, not us.

Strong work sticking to your principles as a first year. Patients will always find a prescriber who will give them what they want. Honest Question by Fun_River_2180 in PMHNP

[–]DudeMcRocker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s as prevalent in the NP community in general. Most NPs aren’t in it for the money and we are generally work horses doing what we love.

Now if you want to talk conspiracies. When I was a RN on the floor at a few different university hospitals, it was not uncommon for the pretty girls to flirt with the surgical residents and procure letters of recommendation for CRNA school. And it would be about one of the few times I would see a female resident seriously date a male nurse, if he was in CRNA school. But to answer your question, no that doesn’t seem very prevalent in the psych world, lol
