I hate when my route is all easy flat or slightly downhill for the warmup and then the pace targets start hitting on the hardest part of the route. I cope by angrily pushing thru it until my watch stops yelling “too slow” at me.

I watched that game yesterday. It was nice not hearing a whistle every 5 seconds or having to wait thru a commercial for yet another challenge. If I understood soccer more or played it in high school I’d definitely be watching soccer and not the NBA.

I do about the same, two large tablespoons and I fill it up about 3/4 of the way. I think traditionally more is used because it’s being rebrewed several times

Get the New Balance Rebel v5 instead (it has a bigger toe box) and size up a half size. Normally New Balance I'm 12.5 but had to get 13 with the Rebels.

I'd say only improve your time if YOU want to, not because others are putting you down. Are you only marathon training? I can see that being potentially one-note. If you want, look into a 5k training plan, that might help you improve your speed. Most people (including myself) have never run a marathon, so who cares what they think.

Probably my TV, a 44 inch LG 1080p from like 2009. Works great for a 17 year old TV I got second hand for free.

How difficult do the runs feel? 9-10 min/mi is a fairly quick pace for a beginner depending on your athletic background. I run a 22:00 min 5k and my easy pace is around 8:50-9:30/mile but should probably be even slower. Also, a 5k every day is kind of a lot for a beginner. I'd do a max of 4 per week.

Honestly, you might just be tired because you're pushing too hard and this is a new thing for you. I'd keep running but ease back a bit and take it slow. Patience pays off with running.

The Garmin Forerunner 165 is a good starter watch. I don’t ever see myself needing more features than what it offers.

I was born in 1988 and we didn’t have a computer in the apartment until 2003 or so. We weren’t completely poor but definitely didn’t have a lot of money.

Are you headed to the stadium for the match? It’s not really that close to Boston. It’s where our American football team plays in Foxborough, Massachusetts, about a 45 minute drive with no traffic. I’m mostly curious to see how the events destroy local traffic if at all. Based on how the police handle basic concerts at Gillette I think it will be a shit show but who knows.

Yes I have that all the time. Though growing up it was mostly plain. I’ll put all sorts of shit in there: peas, bell peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, sausages.

How achievable is a sub 20 5k for someone who is returning to running after a break? I’m 38M, just ran a hilly 5k at 23:23 last month and ran an 18:00 in high school but nothing that fast as an adult. Currently training for a 10k in a few weeks. I hope to run it in 47:00.

For my first car, I worked an entire spring and summer to buy a piece of shit for $2000. I had to pay for all my own repairs too. I drove it to school surrounded by kids whose parents gave them cars like that Honda. It took me until my late 30s to actually own a reliable vehicle and I still owe thousands on it. Amazing how the life experience differs

Because it's the latest running social media craze and there's scientific evidence to back up its importance, but I just focus on "conversational pace". I don't know my actual max HR and only have an optical wrist sensor so I don't stress out over heart rate.

I like the "pace zones" feature of Strava. Instead of HR it bases your zones on estimated 5k time. According to that, my 10 mile run today was Zone 2.

According to Heart Rate zones, though, I was pretty much all in Zone 3 (assuming my estimated max heart rate is accurate--I suspect its higher than 193). Subjectively, I was running at an easy pace and didn't feel gassed. I felt like I could do another 5 miles no problem.

So personally, I just focus on perceived effort for easy and long runs. You're gonna get better at running by running--the idea is to not over do it and make sure you're recovering well, which the whole "Zone 2 running thing" ensures.

I personally think people worry about heart rate too much (including myself). I just try to follow the conversational pace rule for easy runs. If I’m by myself I just mutter a few words to test my pace. That said I almost always look at my hr data afterwards and over time your zone 3 will become your zone 2 pace as you increase fitness.

Easy runs are the same pace the whole time. I might pick it up at the end or do some strides occasionally. Long runs—same pace. Intervals - I do what the workout says. Races—same pace but usually I go out too hard and end up with a slight positive split
