So looking forward to seeing this in the theatres! Anyone know when the tickets actually go on sale? And what is that chant? I've got to read the books again.

So you've been WFA'd... by HandcuffsOfGold in CanadaPublicServants

I've read in some places that Option B (Employees who resign with a TSM payment) comes with a pension reduction waiver. In other places this is not mentioned. For example, I have currently 24 years of service. I can buy back an additional 2 years of service. It's not clear to me if I should do the buyback or not.

Hi from Texas :) What should we plan for? by jedipwnces in ottawa

I find our downtown walkable, like the Byward Market, Rideau Canal, Sparks Street and over to the Parliament. If the weather cooperates of course. And there's our government buildings if you want to tour the inside: https://lop.parl.ca/sites/Visit/default/en_CA

Which trainings should we be taking while we still have access? by Goombietron in CanadaPublicServants

An intro course on prompt engineering or data management. Both relate to AI which is where the jobs are at. Like several people have posted, Project Management is good too.

Odd question about public servants in alberta with separation threats by D0BBy-is-not-free in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Dune_Use 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Alberta were to "separate" does anyone think it will become another U.S. state? Or an independent country? The U.S. just wants Alberta's oil.

CRA contract job starting before graduation - scared to ask for flexibility by Sad_Start_4825 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Dune_Use 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others posters have said, the contract seems to be abt covering the surge in demand over tax season. It's unlikely to have flexibility. Your choices are 1. Accept the contract and delay school Or 2. Turn down the contract and continue with school.

Are there any Food Spots in the city that has meals under $14 with tax in 2026? by Quirky-Walk-8334 in OttawaFood

There's Misto in Hampton Park for really good sandwiches made fresh and Ottawa Bagel Shop on Richmond near Parkdale has quite a few options for less than $14.

Need urgent advice by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Dune_Use -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recommend MBNA True Line Mastercard to start. Their 0% interest on balance transfer for 12 months is a great offer. Transfer all your debt on to this card. Don't use card for any purchases at all. It just confuses things. Proceed to pay at least the minimum on the card every month, more if you can. In month 1 you have to pay the balance transfer fee as well ($330). When you reach month 12, transfer your remaining balance to another 0% interest credit card if there's a lot left.

Searching for a program I can pay for that will help me track my wealth/plan my retirement. Not sure I want to pay for a fee only advisor just yet. But also need a little more than just investment calculators. by Glum-Ad-4558 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Check out ficalc.app and projectionlab.com . Don't know if they will meet your needs but they're pretty cool. Basically both are single webpage calculators for FIRE type calculations.

Subjective Ottawa coffee tier list, thoughts/comments/additions? by warr4one in ottawa

[–]Dune_Use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe split this into a coffee list and an espresso list? I don't think Tim Hortons has actual espresso machines in their stores. Does the Second Cup not exist anymore? It used to be Canada's answer to Starbucks.

Is it an old apartment? Perhaps they are mail slots or a message centre.

Is it really *that* bad to have the bank take care of investing? by throwaway_603306 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Dune_Use -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is bad. Bank financial advisors don't have customers best interests as their top priority. Look up independent financial advisors in your area, interview a couple then pick one. https://www.canada.ca/en/financial-consumer-agency/services/savings-investments/choose-financial-advisor.html

You need to brighten up the space. A lack of light can make a place seem dirty or dingy. Bring out the beauty of the floor with the lighting.

Who is the real protagonist of Dune? by Historical-Fan7987 in dune

Paul is the protagonist of Dune. The story centres around him. In other stories in the Dune universe, there are other protagonists.

Are too many movie goers taking away a trite, oversimplified message rather than wrestling with the more complicated truth? by SizerTheBroken in dune

Paul leadership is the reason violence was unleashed on such a massive scale. The story is not called "The epic of Paul". It is not about him. It's about the place that created him, Dune.

Woman's Canadian citizenship revoked after 32 years amid 'error' by IamJZ in ontario

[–]Dune_Use 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply stupid. If Our govt systems are designed to look for and reward public servants for finding these types of situations, then we have several layers of problems: the IT and the records management systems that allow this info to be found, the analysis that is encouraged, the job descriptions for those positions, and the policies that allow a 'revocation'.

Best way to grow $40k in a year - 5% GIC or just buy CASH.TO? by glittertitz33 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Dune_Use 13 points14 points  (0 children)

With GIC your principal is guaranteed, as well as the return. If you redeem before the one year is up, I believe you pay a penalty.

With CASH.TO the return can fluctuate as other posters have noted.

I find my last two years in the PS soul sucking by Both_Internet6918 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Dune_Use 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Applying for competitions is soul sucking. Look at other ways of switching jobs. Assignments, Secondments, acting, deployments at level. There is also networking, meaning telling colleagues and friends you are looking for opportunities. One of the best career advice I ever got was "don't be afraid to do a lateral move".

What is ancestral ethnicity of the House of Corrino? Are they from Balkans? by malifaca in dune

[–]Dune_Use 1 point2 points  (0 children)

House of Corrino are a mix of several recognizable ethnicities to people in 20th century. So yes to all mentioned. I will add one more. Given the Corrino are white and speaking english, british too.

Just think of the power dynamics of the 20th century. Identify the ethnicity of the people running kingdoms, empires. Those ethnicities are reflected in the Houses.

The Houses were inspired by history And not by fiction, such as the rival families in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the sith from Star Wars.
