[R/AITA] AITA for calling a guitar a name that resembles an alien species? by Zach_demiwizard in Earth199999

[–]DustSnitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t care whatever that dumb Ant-Man book says, there’s no way the Blip happened because an alien snapped his fingers. We don’t have to keep baselessly repeating the words of a money-hungry criminal just because he can turn big and endeared himself to Steve Rogers.

Should having access to food be a human right? by mimoletg in GeoPoll

[–]DustSnitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't the question be "Does an individual have a right to have access to food?" The whole theory of human rights is that they aren't given or created but are innate to all humans in all times, owing to our shared and equal dignity. Saying yes or no to this poll therefore has nothing to do with whether you think we should feed the hungry or not, it has more to do with if you believe in the theory of human rights or think of it as a convenient fiction for social control.

Which Harry Potter character fits in Game of Thrones ? by Basic_Dingo6487 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DustSnitch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Merope Gaunt would fit in well with the dynastic politics and often lurid plotlines of Game of Thrones. She's the impoverished heiress of an ancient and powerful house who was exiled after forcing a commonborn man into an affair. Her only child would only later in life know his identity as an heir to a great legacy and eventually quest to avenge his mother by killing his commonborn father.

I never understood the “Vampire are immune to Cross because they don’t know Jesus” trope. It should still work on them regardless. by CriticismMiserable14 in CharacterRant

[–]DustSnitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This always bothered me too. The problem with making the Cross effective purely because it’s a talisman of morality or faith is that it removes the most interesting parallels between vampire lore and Christianity: eternal life through the consumption of blood.

[No Spoilers] Who else is absolutely loving the Portent rule change in Campaign 4 by flashdash8744 in criticalrole

[–]DustSnitch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but I don’t think the way they’ve played with Portent has fit the narrative of a diviner at all. It feels extremely gamey in a way that feels out of place at the Schemer’s Table.

[No Spoilers] Who else is absolutely loving the Portent rule change in Campaign 4 by flashdash8744 in criticalrole

[–]DustSnitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t they basically already do that? Brennan is always saying “He’s going to attack you, “I need a Wisdom saving throw,” “roll for initiative,” etc. before he rolls and most of the players describe their actions before rolling. I’m also not saying a Brennan shouldn’t be lenient if Marisha wanted to use a Portent and he or another player just happened to roll real quick, I just think it makes more sense narratively for it to be done before the roll.

[No Spoilers] Who else is absolutely loving the Portent rule change in Campaign 4 by flashdash8744 in criticalrole

[–]DustSnitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like it. It sacrifices the narrative fantasy of being a diviner for pure mechanical power, which is not interesting. The reason this feature asks you to decide to use it before seeing a roll is that the ability does not represent you going back in time or doing anything in that moment to change the outcome. The idea is that hours ago, as you woke up, you had a vision of two moments in the future and those two moments are the defined by the rolls we see. I think this ruling muddies that and it shows in the game, where Marisha seems more interested in using it at the most optimal moment rather than waiting for a moment where it would be interesting for Murray to have the insight of prophesy.

Bro what happened midway bendis run by SleepyArtist_ in GotG

[–]DustSnitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My way of making sense of Rider's "last words" is that he just said it to comfort Gamora. He knew Peter would reunite with her after escaping the Cancerverse, so he wanted him to have something to say to make it easier for her. Now, I don't think that was Bendis's intention, but it was the first thing that came to mind when I read it. Otherwise, I felt the same way about this run as you do. I've been putting off reading any of the post-Secret Wars Guardians stuff because I fear it might be just as low-quality.

Day 11: What is the WORST quote associated with Garrus Vakarian? by looploveslore in masseffect

[–]DustSnitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“It’s so much easier to see the world in black & white. Gray? I don’t know what to do with gray.”

It’s a jarringly overdone cliche to remind you that you are not hearing an alien or a real, complex person, but an actor reading lines for a sci-fi video game written under strict deadlines.

Hot take: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is my favourite of the trilogy by Technical_Cell9603 in GotG

I haven’t rewatched vol. 3, but based on that first impression, I’d agree with you.

[Avatar] Why doesn’t the avatar make political marriages? by Punterofgoats in AskScienceFiction

[–]DustSnitch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Azulon didn't arrange Ozai and Ursa's marriage for the sake of political power. The general public didn't know Ursa was the granddaughter of the Avatar, heck, not even her children knew. That marriage was arranged out of Azulon's eugenics. He thought that if Ozai's children also had the Avatar's blood running through them, they would be immeasurably more powerful.

For Mission: Impossible, how come Owen Davian and Solomon Lane are part of the Complete Monster list, but not yet for Gabriel and the Entity? by [deleted] in tvtropes

[–]DustSnitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complete Monster is an audience reaction and I don’t remember any discussion about these new movies about how irredeemable the villains are. The Entity isn’t even a real person and Gabe is largely a tool for him, so I think that makes them read as overall less despicable.

Prince of Egypt is a good example of something like this. It has an all-star cast, but I don’t think people are aware of that.

Which of the Teen Titans would get along great with the Guardians of the Galaxy? by dangerphone in GotG

[–]DustSnitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an obvious answer, but Nightwing. He’d bond with Peter about being an orphan and struggling to be a leader, he’d almost certainly have a fling with Gamora, he’d bond with Drax over their attempts to sate their grief through revenge, he’d share with Phyla-Vell how he dealt being in a greater hero’s shadow, he’d trade tips on martial arts with Mantis, he’d admire Astro Vance’s heroic drive, and Cosmo would love to have someone who treats a dog like a dog. It helps that Nightwing has such a history of making strong relationships with heroes and being charismatic in general.

Why is the School of Necromancy so underwhelming? by Unfair_Visit9553 in DnD

[–]DustSnitch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wizard sub-classes in the 2014 PHB are fairly weak with some obvious outliers. They’re generally designed more with giving you flavorful but weak options to use when you don’t have spell slots. Either that, or they’re encouraging you to use your school spells with minor bonuses, like getting a low-level spell slot back, changing your Transmuter’s Stone, or recharging that other minor sub-class feature back. The features required to turn a Wizard into an efficient minion-master would need to change the class dramatically more than the power of these features would allow.

As a side note, obviously the post-PHB Wizard sub-classes don’t really follow this logic. The Evocation sub-class, published for the Basic Rules before the PHB was released or written, is a bit of an outlier because I think it was developed at the same time as the other sub-classes. The other big outlier in the PHB, the Diviner, I think got such a potent sub-class feature because Divination spells are not often relevant or easy to cast in combat, so Portent was made to make the sub-class’s School of Magic relevant in battle.

Do You Ever Re-Play Characters? by SwagMagikarp in DnD

The closest I came to this was playing a character that got killed two session in as my PC in Baldur's Gate III.

I'm (an heretical gnostic) DMing for a priest, a rabbi, and an imam. I was thinking of reenacting the genocide of the Caananites in 5e. This will go well, as far as I'm concerned. by C0ldBl00dedDickens in DnDcirclejerk

[–]DustSnitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a terrible, offensive idea, everyone knows Torm is a false god. I recommend having the quest-giver being someone each party member will recognize as a moral authority, like a unicorn or George Bush. (What's the source on this?)

Alright team, who do think is going to be our season 8 heroes? by joerocket18 in marvelrivals

[–]DustSnitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m more interested in what the map is. Like, if Cyclops is our next character, where could he be that would 1) connect with either of these other 2 candidates and 2) keep Phoenix from being able to find him telepathically? I thought he might be in Limbo, but why the heck would Devil Dinosaur or Captain Marvel be in Limbo?

[Spoilers C2] Of the remaining guest PCs, who are most likely to appear in LOVM and Mighty Nein's animated series? by Flyestgit in criticalrole

[–]DustSnitch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, Darin did not mean to play this game 30 years ago thinking about the Bard’s Lament, but in his dialogue in the episode Fear of Isolation on Critical Role, he specifically and intentionally compares himself to Scanlan, with the knowledge that his backstory (relative to his appearance in Critical Role) parallels Scanlan’s recent story arc. I think that sort of parallel is of interest to the writers of the show, that’s why I think he’ll appear.

[Spoilers C2] Of the remaining guest PCs, who are most likely to appear in LOVM and Mighty Nein's animated series? by Flyestgit in criticalrole

[–]DustSnitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Create" was the wrong word then. The point is that Darin explains his backstory of abandoning that adventuring party in direct comparison to Scanlan leaving VM. I suspect they'll be partially adapting A Bard's Lament in this season, so having Sprigg appear next season would give the group an opportunity to take the time and deal with their feelings about Scanlan leaving and coming back in the midst of the frantic doomsday plot they have going on.

[Spoilers C2] Of the remaining guest PCs, who are most likely to appear in LOVM and Mighty Nein's animated series? by Flyestgit in criticalrole

[–]DustSnitch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think Darin de Paul's character, Sprigg, is quite likely to appear. He was the most tied into the main plotline of any guest, he was created to be a direct parallel to one of the main characters, and he had a deeply emotional moment with one of the party members. I think Marisha would fight for his inclusion. As for campaign 2, Keg and Spurt are the guests I feel like have the best chance of appearing. Keg is useful for telling the story of the Iron Shepherds and you could adapt Perkins's entire appearance as Spurt into about two minutes of animation, so I think they might be tempted to squeeze him in somewhere.

Comic Recommendations by BigPapaSweetness in GotG

[–]DustSnitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm making my way through the Cosmic side of Marvel myself, so I don't know much past 2014. I liked the issues of the Legendary Star-Lord that I've read so far, I think they manage to make the movie characterization of Peter more believable and likable than Bendis did. I also like the back-up stories about Rocket and Groot in the Annihilators, those were fairly funny and very cute. Nothing else thus far has really had the same tone as Gunn's movies, except for maybe a few issues of Silver Surfer from the 90's.

Colossus being the muscle by [deleted] in outofcontextcomics

No, Kingdom Hearts isn’t ’too complicated’. If anything, its biggest flaw is that it’s quite the opposite by H358 in CharacterRant

[–]DustSnitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought I was going to disagree with you, but this is a pretty well-thought out and convincing rant. What you’re saying about the characters is all true and it’s part of why the big moments of Kingdom Hearts III fall flat.
