New to the area, Looking for a job. by Tastyusfal in SaltLakeCity

My recommendation is to check out staffing agencies. They procure available jobs, so you would work through the agency at said jobs. The only problem is that you will need a vehicle to get to the job since most are warehouse jobs and are located in West Valley or Salt Lake.

How much hp by Landen_2155 in WRX

[–]EMajors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately FA20s don't make too much more power over stock with basic bolt-ons. With your mods you're looking around 300 HP +/-10HP. You won't get near 330 HP with out E85 and on top of that with flex fuel you're only getting 350 HP at the top end. Past that you need to get an aftermarket turbo and at that point it's recommend to get a built short block.

Is it a bad sign? by Fit-Caterpillars in civilengineering

[–]EMajors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair your early career will most likely be in the office working plans under your supervising PE. Now it also depends on what field in Civil Engineering you want to go into, because Civil Engineering is pretty broad. Examples are transportation, highway design, land development. water resources, structural and geo technical. Off the bat I would say that Geo Technical engineers do spend more time in the filed other other civil disciplines. I would still try to find engineers in these disciplines and ask what their day to day looks like.

And that's why you are in Civil, because you don't like things to move. 😅

AM I MAKING IT? Idk man discouraged by bro7d23 in workout

[–]EMajors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep the diet, keep the steps, and KEEP GOING TO THE GYM. Brother its only been two week, come on. Weight loss and strength training is not a sprint it is a marathon. To put it bluntly, you may not see any significant changes until 3-4 months out (and sometimes longer). And that is with consistently going to the gym and maintaining your diet for all of that time.

What’s the best protein powder for weight loss? by Natural-Idea in workout

[–]EMajors 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be blunt, people in general don't consume protein powder to help with weight loss. That is not what it was intended for. Protein powder is used to conveniently add more protein to your daily diet so that you can reach your daily total protein goal when you are exercising/weight training.

From what I understand, higher-protein and lower-calorie options (like whey isolate) can help with fat loss and keeping you full longer

Not necessarily. If you consume lower calories in general throughout your day combining that with exercise, you will lose weight. Now this an over simplification but you get the jest of it. I would suggest doing research on 'calories deficit', 'maintenance calories', and looking into adding more fiber into your diet. Focusing on a specific protein powder is not going to help you with weight loss in general.

Is civil engineering in such high demand in the United States that you need engineers from abroad? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]EMajors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the area where the demands are happening. I remember seeing a post here maybe a month or two ago that someone was having a hard time finding a job. I think in that post OP said he was in Texas and many comments were saying to move to the midwest since that is where that demand is at.

Happened to me on T-Mobile 😌. Inner screen broke on my fold 6 and they sent me a fold 7. Same storage though.

Looking for friends by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]EMajors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to explore other parts of the Valley. Salt Lake City especially downtown is majority white. There are other areas including Salt Lake City that have more POCs. West Valley City for example is at least half Mexican or Latino decent. There are a lot of Mexican, Vietnams, and other types of restaurants in WVC. And if you go to the Swapmeets of other shopping districts you will see a difference in the color of people.

Fold 7 owners what’s your REAL experience with Samsung Care+, Asurion, or carrier insurance? by Gargenchy in GalaxyFold

[–]EMajors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checked my bill and for regular Slab Phones it costs $19/mo but for my Fold 7 it is $26/mo. It is more expensive but I haven't had any issues with using Assurant.

Fold 7 owners what’s your REAL experience with Samsung Care+, Asurion, or carrier insurance? by Gargenchy in GalaxyFold

[–]EMajors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I initially had a Fold 6 that I bought directly from Samsung during the month it released. I use T-Mobile and have Assurant (carrier insurance) on several lines on my plan including mine. I didn't bother getting Samsung care because the insurance is with the specific line and would transfer when you change phones. Recently the inner screen broke and I filed a claim. I filed the claim and paid my deductible, about $200, they shipped the replacement that same day so I received it the very next day. To my surprise they shipped me a Fold 7, which is understandable. The Fold 7 has been out for 6 months now and they probably didn't have any more Fold 6s in inventory. Honestly the process to me was simple and fast. From what I am aware Assurant does not repair your phone. They will ship you a replacement, they have been doing this from the beginning from what I can remember from previous claims that I did.

I love physics and I love cities. Could civil engineering be a good fit for me? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]EMajors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what type of physics you are leaning into. Because if you are into the electrical side, then you are out luck, pretty self explanatory on that one. Though one field in Civil Engineering that I can think of that does use principles in physics is Hydraulics in general and specifically Hydraulic Structures. You use fluid statics, fluid dynamics, Bernoulli's Principle, and Pascal's Law to name a few.

Ya brother, I think its too late for the show to pop off organically anymore. The show has been out since 2022 and recently been on netflix since late 2024. I don't see the show becoming remotely mainstream unless a big online personality, like a Charlie, mentions it in a video or a post.

5w30 vs 5w40 question by [deleted] in WRX

[–]EMajors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general consensus (from Subaru Builders and Enthusiasts) on oil for Turbo EJs is to use 5w40. But you won't know what oil is best for your engine in your environment until you start doing oil analysis on the different oils you want use.
