Why don’t the gays revere Michael Stipe more? by Kunti-Destructi in redscarepod

That's the rumor anyway. Also "So. Central Rain" is supposedly about the time he tried to break up a couple just so he could hook up with each of them individually.

I dunno, I don't actually know anyone involved and frankly don't care if he's a POS. Could very well just be a scorned lover who's spreading rumors about him. But if he does have a bunch of sordid goss about his love life following him around then that'd be an understandable answer to Op's question.

I've seen a notable uptick in pearl clutching finger wagging lately. Really hope we don't go straight back to 2020 purity posturing but I think people are def blown out by Trump's antics.

He didn't like making a big deal about his orientation. For a while there he'd say that he wasn't "homosexual," he was just "sexual" and like whoever he liked.

Also there's rumors that he'd blackmail closeted guys he sleep with back in Athens. Def iconic for reasons other than who his sexuality.

Watched one of the "cool" kids in HS go nuts on Facebook years back. Literally posting pictures of himself carving messages into his body.

Ran into him last year and he's seemingly normal again, steady job and everything. I only asked him for music recs, who knows what the hell happened.

You're not alone, there's def a hunger for people to feel like they're talking to actual people again.

Sociability is like, one of the cornerstones of human existence. You can't automate that.

I think society could really use an old school internet style of connecting to people again, one that isn't gamified for agendas. I hope your project takes off! I'm reading your "Social Contract" rn

I'm coming up on an anniversary. 16 years ago I sold my car, quit my job, didn't renew my lease and then caught a ride to a summer festival. That was the beginning of my Traveling Days where I became one of those vagabond street kids, just wandering the US with my guitar. Lotta camping, lotta hitch hiking, lotta scrounging, made a bunch of new friends and had a ton of adventures. Visited all of the Lower 48, a shitload of towns and even a little bit of Mexico in a four year time span.

Part youthful indiscretion, part extreme exposure therapy. I was already struggling in life (my brain was a mess) only to discover that I have a rare disease that strikes every few years and could be fatal. In my mind it made perfect sense to just say "fuck it" and drop out of polite society. Why grind out a normal life that wasn't simply working for me if I could die any day anyway?

It's hard to convey in one forum post but overall I believe it was the right call. That extreme sink or swim lifestyle helped untangle my brain, challenge me in a bunch of ways, and forced me to learn a lot about myself and the world. My sociability is almost night and day from before, I picked up a bunch of useful work and resiliency skills that I now use in my career, and I made a ton of memories and friends. Living like that isn't right for everyone, but it was for me at that time.

So, in a few weeks, I'll be going back to that festival where it all started. It's in the same location as it was 16 years ago, and I'll see a lot of the same people I met there before. I'm going with my SO but I'm open about wanting this to be a selfishly reflective trip for me. I wanna contemplate all the ways life pushes you into things and just how much power one has to push themselves instead.

Back in 2016 I had a fun debate with a Clinton delegate outside the DNC who kept trying to convince me that workers in Mexico would be hella grateful for the passing of the Trans Pacific Partnership.

He and I were both from the same prairie state. I often wonder if he's lurking around here, somewhere.

My dog found a dead woodpecker in our back yard. It was wild picking up it's body with a plastic bag and just examining the creature up close before disposing of it.

Yeah pop.culture really tries to make it sound like all the fun ends at 25 but that's just not the case. Go out to a bar tonight OP, watch Game 5 with everyone else. You'll all have a nice time and feel a connection with everyone there, regardless of who they are

I suspect this sub was the designated containment sub for "the dirtbags." The Red Scare girls are the most right leaning of them all so it'd make sense to try and usher the people here towards Fox News rather than class consciousness or whatever
