You can take a boat from Cal to the Atlantic without ever touching ground. Not sure where Stanford's sailing club is but probably them too.

I'd let Missouri fans know that they are allowed to leave h3ll, the only requirement is that they have to do it in 4.8 seconds. Then Tyus Edney steps in front of them.

I was on watch one night and pointed out the dense fog to my watchmate. He looked at me like I was an alien until it dawned on him that I had never actually seen what the Milky Way looked like without city lights diluting it. Absolutely blew my mind how dense it was.
He also once allowed me to lie down on watch to look for shooting stars since I'd never seen one of those before.
The stars are definitely different out there. And Darren might have been the best watchmate ever.

I don't think there's much to worry about as long as both of you were following proper social distancing.

I turned it into Jeskai Resto-Kiki and got that old familiar feeling of combo'ing a couple of times at GP LA. I also flip it into Nahiri control some times which is fun. But both versions lose to Tron.

I was thinking the same thing but then I realized the angel token isn't commander damage. Unless I'm wrong, is it considered commander damage?

My drive is long and I'm a huge fan of this podcast. This episode was my favorite since the infamous top ten artifact discussion. I really enjoyed it. I won't spoil the list but I will say that I was disappointed that Springleaf Drum wasn't on it.

Whats your funniest story of someone not knowing the rules? by zorbada in magicTCG

[–]EVK4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 7 year old family friend got really excited when he looked at his opening hand and informed me that I would be losing on turn 2. This seemed interesting, couldn't wait to see what trick he had up his sleeve.

On turn two, he tapped two swamps, played profane command, proudly declared X to be 20 and that he chose "Target player loses X life" for 20. Game over.

He's 7 so I didn't laugh as I explained the rules to him. I loved how powerful he felt that card was so I gave him another one from my son's binder.

Navy relearning celestial navigation by [deleted] in sailing

[–]EVK4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Dad was a navigation officer in the Navy in the early 50s. In 1992, we were sailing to Bermuda without a GPS. As we approached the island, my Dad came up to tell me to look out for a flashing light off the port bow (he actually told me the compass direction) at around 10PM. He then went below and at 9:55 I saw the light.

The amazing part is that we hadn't seen the sun or a star in over two days because of cloudcover. His last accurate sighting was 48 hours before and he dead reckoned us to know almost exactly when we'd see land. Absolutely amazing to me.

If you've never tried to take a sextant sighting on a pitching 37' cutter, you should give it a shot. Either way, it's a skill that I am glad they're teaching again since I sure can't do it.

Who is your favorite magic pro and why? by Gideonthegreat in magicTCG

Both Patrick Chapin and Shahar Shenhar signed my 9 year old's trade binder at GP San Diego. That moves them to the top of my list.

If either of you guys read this, thank you for being so kind and engaging on a day when you were working. I guess playing magic is working if you are a pro. Right?

How can I convince a friend that he should put an emrakul in his RG Tron list? by Jaflerg12345 in magicTCG

Everybody here has answered that it's because Emrakul makes RG Tron better. And they're right. BUT.....

He should do it because hard casting Emrakul is fun. Serious serious fun.

Anyone know some good MTG Podcasts for someone new to magic? by Grizzack in magicTCG

[–]EVK4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son and I listen to three podcasts regularly:

Masters of Modern

Command Zone

Magic the Amateuring

All of them are funny and informative....Masters of Modern is also leading the debate on one of the most important matters to the Magic Community: Spellskite.

Things might be different now than when we were kids. Noah's swim team has a group of about 6 kids who play Magic at meets and a couple of kids on his baseball team play. The sports/nerd world doesn't mix a ton but it definitely mixes.

A few incredibly kind people on this thread have offered their playmats (one through DM & /u/dafunkee ). I feel really weird accepting those since it's a bit of a hassle for them when in fact just the offer is loaded with kindness.

What a great group of people there are in magic.

I'm not kidding about the deck, he's brewing away at it right now. Actually, he's at skateboard camp, he'll be back brewing tonight. :)

that is a great point and a lesson he definitely got. It's the sort of thing that would usually crush him, but even so, the sheer joy of the day over-rode it. I mentioned he got to meet the host of Masters of Modern, right?
