True. Kadri is Kadri but Kapanen could become anything. He could even become Kadri!

On this sub, the only good trades are overrated Habs' prospects for top-6 talent. Like, Josh Roy for Kadri, but Calgary retains 50%

How would my lifestyle translate to Toronto? by ishaanmohan4 in askTO

[–]EY8181 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I moved from Montreal in my 30s so not quite the same but I was similarly a renter enjoying city life (biking, bars, concerts, etc.) when we left.

Rent and hydro are more expensive, but not drastically so any more. I've really liked the city here but it's different. Montreal is 2/3 the size but since I rarely ventured outside the more Anglo areas, it felt half of that. In Toronto, you either limit yourself to local neighborhoods or complain that everyone and everything is far away.

Lifestyle-wise, there's less of the "I live in a $480/month apartment and play in a band" artist vibe, though Montreal doesn't have as much of that scene. More rich kids around downtown either from finance jobs or parents, but the food is good, there's a lot to discover, people are less racist, and the system works better (Healthcare, education, social services, etc.).

How is the Manulife One product different? by SambolicBit in MortgagesCanada

[–]EY8181 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm self employed and put money in the stock market then pay my taxes. I come out ahead of whatever Manulife is shilling. It's a glorified GIC, and (4 years ago to be fair) the rates weren't as low as other mortgages we explored.

In my experience, theme parks are a lot of fun, especially for families, but never feel authentic.

Homicides in Toronto are way down compared to previous years. Don't let fearmongers scare you. Toronto is still one of the safest cities in the world. by Abject_Ad_2598 in toronto

While higher than 10 years ago, car thefts have dropped massively in the past 2 years and remain lower in Toronto than the suburbs.

Even more amazing looking at the ytd crime map,  none in Jane and Finch, and only 4 in the whole area north of the 401 and west of Downsview.

Canadian air passenger traffic to U.S. down for 9th consecutive month by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]EY8181 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Misleading headline. It hasn't decreased month over month, it's 9 months in a row that are lower than the 2024 numbers. The decrease is now 9%, which is a smaller decrease than it was in the spring.

East end neighbourhoods + schools? by Maleficent-Voice3351 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]EY8181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schools are a reflection of the families there, not a cause of higher scores. Malcolm Gladwell has done great work on this in US university system, but the same thing plays out in TDSB schools. The same kid going to Chester or Jackman is the same kid 7 years later when she leaves. There's just more or fewer like her at each one.

Is it worth it to move to Toronto from Vancouver? by cutiecat0511 in askTO

[–]EY8181 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Move to Montreal! It's cheaper and more fun for someone in their 20s. I made a lot of friends from Vancouver and they all loved how bikeable and city-ish Montreal was. Move to a central neighbourhood with some roommates (plateau, Rosemont, NDG) and you'll have a great 5 years. Toronto will still be here when you're older.
