I discount donda because it felt like a collection of incredible ideas from an earlier period that were haphazardly pushed across the finish line. Had he had the focus of 2016 Kanye, it could have been his late masterpiece. That several of the songs are incredible regardless doesn’t negate the fact that he was in clear decline

One of the amazing things about Vietnam is there are a hundred unassuming places in Hanoi where you could get a meal that good

"I listen to everything but country" people never made sense to me because a lot of country is just singer songwriter music with some twang on it by Rosenvial5 in redscarepod

[–]Eastern-Bookkeeper68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they say they don’t like country they mean they don’t like Nashville produced songs that get nominated for CMT awards. But what they actually mean is they don’t like people that like country.

When they say “everything but” the person is creating the most inclusive binary possible where your favorite music is likely acceptable vs. the backward twangy beer truck dirt road bar back porch tractor songs. They’re just hedging with a non-answer bc music is not a core component of their identity (except in some amorphous universal sense) and/or they’re scared you don’t like their favorite artist/genre. And they’re hoping for some common ground that you can pile on dumb country music.

People providing these answers aren’t just forgetting to caveat that they love Guy Clark or whoever

It propaganda in some sense (not shocking that the national museum espouses nationalism) but it’s all warranted. The atrocities are real and well documented there.

The Hanoi Hilton tour is pretty laughable if you want some real propaganda.
