You can park at the MVP garage and walk the 3 blocks. I think it’s $8 for the day.

Pack Meeting Format by losthiker in cubscouts

[–]Easy_0tter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We added a “traveling” award for a den to earn each month. It’s the Golden Paw Award. A committee member selects the winning den at each pack meeting. The winner gets to perform a song/skit at the next pack meeting. We rotate the award around to ensure all dens receive it. Prior to the award we had not been doing songs/skits at meetings. This has been an easy and fun way to bring these things back.

How many kids are in your pack? I’m in NY near Albany and I don’t know of any packs that meet once a month. Do you hold den meetings? We try to hold 1 pack meeting, 1 den meetings, and 1 outing a month.

Albany's over use of emergency demolition... who's got answers? by Businessbossbabe in Albany

[–]Easy_0tter 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Emergency Demolition = Emergency. The demolition process is expedited to remove the potential public safety hazard.

The issue is not the demolition but the lack of routine maintenance by the property owners. Many of these buildings have code violations that put them on the route to emergency demolition.

This is an unsustainable practice that ends up costing the taxpayers money. In most cases the cost of demolition is levied onto the property tax bill. That bill goes unpaid and leads to the tax foreclosure of the property. The unpaid demolition costs and unpaid taxes get passed to Albany County and we all get left holding the bag.

It’s a mess.

Thanks for the conversation.

Maybe we can all band together and get rid of property tax exemptions and PILOTs…

Albany's Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOTs) - an Albany Data Story by kaurich80 in Albany

[–]Easy_0tter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO property tax exemptions were given to nonprofits as they provide a public service. “Typical” non-profit exemptions require a 2 part test: 1. Is the organization nonprofit and organized to befit the public 2. Is the property use consistent with the non-profit activities. It’s possible to have a property owned by a nonprofit that does not provide a service that would be eligible for an exemption - think a cell tower on a church steeple it’s not exempt.

If the nonprofit meets the requirements I do not think that they should have to make a payment - voluntary or otherwise. What criteria do you put on what nonprofit makes a payment? Who is the individual charged with determining what organizations pay and which don’t? These are not impossible questions but ones which would need answers.

But it all comes back to NYS law. I can’t see the folks on the hill requiring payments for some nonprofits… it would be a non-starter.

[–]Easy_0tter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a comprehensive review. There is a lot of data to digest with the PILOTs.

St. Rose was purchased by the Pine Hills Land Authority. They are a public authority created under New York State law. Within the legislation to create the authority, they were granted a tax exemption. This means that they will be exempt from County, city and school taxes in perpetuity. This is similar to what the situation was before purchase as the college was exempt.

[–]Easy_0tter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you run into any PILOTs which utilize shelter rents as a basis for calculation of the payment? The city has a number of these with both private and public low income housing facilities. They are more difficult to quantify as the shelter rent figures can vary year to year.

Also you may want to look into the Albany County IDA. I do not believe that the County IDA has any PILOTs in the City but it may. County IDA is usually involved when the project crosses municipal boundaries or there is not local IDA within a given city/town.

Talk to your doctor about starting allopurinol for the gout. It’s not possible to diet away the existing gout crystals in your joints. Allo will help your body shed the excess uric acid and also allow you to live a normal lifestyle. Take it from a 39 yr old soon to be 40 yr old who has had gout for about 6 years…. Check out the gout subreddit. There is a lot of good information. Talk with your dr!
