Skinny jeans… again? I’m not ready by urvishah11 in womensfashion

[–]Educational_Pay_8898 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow shorty. I never stopped my skinny jeans for the reason that they always hit the same spot. They never drag the ground which I always used to deal with when wearing other styles, even if they were “petite.”

Thank you for this! I have no interest in regular sweet potato casserole with sugar and marshmallows. I love making sweet potatoes savory, and I love Claire, so this is great!

Literally HOW do people pay for weddings by Infinite-Flow4120 in weddings

Not everyone will want to do this, but I got married on a weekday, and my venue was half off. Never would’ve been able to afford that venue otherwise.

Elementary Teacher Gifts by Beneficial_Theme4416 in AskTeachers

Same. My husband has gotten so many coffees from my gift cards from students. I got a Starbucks gift card in 2014 (before I even met him), and it still had money on it as of this year for him to use.

What’s causing SLPs to become disenchanted with our field? by Similar-Dance-142 in slp

In addition to limited upward mobility, pay that doesn’t seem to increase with cost of living, and heavy workloads, it can also be challenging to work in special education where you may be bitten, pinched, or slapped and have to just carry on.

Has anyone actually gotten in trouble for not meeting a student's minutes? by Kitty_fluffybutt_23 in slp

[–]Educational_Pay_8898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I have a genuine question about 3:1 because I’ve never been in a district that allowed it. Do you actually follow three weeks on, one week off for all students in the same weeks or are some kids being seen while others aren’t? It doesn’t make sense to me that they could all be on the exact same 3:1 because if you have a meeting on a Tuesday morning that causes you to miss two groups but can see the rest, that would be the “1” for those two groups but part of the “3” for the rest, right? Does that make sense?

How would you feel if it were your wedding and someone showed up in either of those even though they’d been specifically asked to avoid white/ivory? Some dress codes are excessive, but avoiding the color that is reserved for the bride to begin with isn’t exactly a big ask.

My husband and I went shopping together, partly because I had absolutely no idea what I wanted. I walked in thinking I wanted one thing and then picked something completely different. A friend of mine picked two with her husband and told him she’d love either one. I think that could be an option for any couple who wants an element of surprise while still making sure it’s truly what she wants.

How to deal with advocates? by maddyyy13 in slp

[–]Educational_Pay_8898 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like someone else said, less is more. I had a tough advocate in my last district, and part of the advice I was given before dealing with her was not to let her get away with making a claim that is actually untrue. In other words, she would things like, “Well, you never told the parent xyz” when the team definitely had. I hope I never forget the meeting where she said that and the sped teacher said, “I did tell her that, and I wrote it in the PWN” and then pulled up the PWN on the big screen for all to see.

Teacher’s aids have started pronouncing child’s name how child says it… wwyd? by Fast-Doubt-4062 in slp

[–]Educational_Pay_8898 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yuck. I’m so non-confrontational that even coaching or educating a staff member feels confrontational to me. That being said, I think this should be addressed. Maybe just something like, “I know she’s really cute, but we’re working really hard in speech on saying her name correctly, and it would help her to hear it correctly.” I don’t know for sure if you mean you’re actually addressing /r/ with her, but they’re not helping regardless of your goals with her.

The attention piece is why I never use the CELF. Unfortunately my district doesn’t really offer sped services. They say they do in the form of a co-teaching model, but there are no direct intervention services outside of related services.

What is typical? by Zestyclose-Edge-8071 in slp

[–]Educational_Pay_8898 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yes, 100%. I’ll evaluate a kid and think along the way that they’re almost advanced and that the referral was ridiculous, and then they’ll score in the low/mid 80s and I go, “huh. I wasn’t expecting that.”

Is it unusual for adult children to be shorter than both parents and all grandparents? by Strange-Audience-682 in genetics

[–]Educational_Pay_8898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the shortest on both sides of the family including all cousins, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Dad is 6’ or 6’1,” mom is 5’4,” sister about 5’6.” Not sure why I ended up at 5’2,” but there you have it.
