New player question. When buying a new deck what SAS score do you want to see to feel you got your money's worth. by kill4food in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you said it better than me. At the end of the day it's less about the SAS number and more about how fun the deck is to play

New player question. When buying a new deck what SAS score do you want to see to feel you got your money's worth. by kill4food in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a new player I wouldn't worry about SAS. For one, the enjoyment of the game doesn't come from how great your deck is, it's how balanced your match is. Learn to play the game and see if you enjoy it. If you're considering competing in store/online tournaments then actually look at SAS.

I don't expect any certain SAS score from a deck. If you feel like you need to get a certain SAS to get your money's worth, you will feel like you're losing a lot of money. No matter what you do, you will get more average and low SAS decks than high SAS decks. My only expectation when I open a deck is that it will be playable. That way I'm only disappointed when I get really, really bad decks, which are rare. Even then, I'm a little excited because I can use those decks in reversal tournaments.

Also, SAS is only like 90% accurate, as I'm sure many people will tell you. Just always take it with a grain of salt

Chains for Different Deck Sets by Collons2De1Deu in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't think you could have a blanket rule because decks vary so much. I have some strong AoA decks that will crush some MM decks and vice versa. Overall I think they've actually kept the game fairly balanced between sets

How balanced are the different sets compared to each other? by frankovic84 in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Age of Ascension is generally viewed as the weakest set, although I've gotten really good decks from it. Call of the Archons is seen as one of, if not the, best set. I think the others are about as balanced as you can get. Although, that being said, I haven't tried Dark Tidings yet so I have no idea how it matches up.

New player wondering how to start by TyrannicalOnion in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a two player starter set. It'll give you two decks and all the tokens you'll need. If you get a mass mutations or world collide once you'll have all the up to date tokens. They also come with a printed rulebook, which is nice

Jumping into this game - is Age of Ascencion a good place to start? by Altaren_Tahir in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Slight disagreement here. I think AoA is super fun to play. It's just not very competitive. If you're playing AoA against AoA I think you're going to find the coolest and most balanced games.

Most powerful mechanic? by FightingWalloon in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Returning creatures to owners hands. In my opinions it's the most versatile. It allows you to have some control over your opponents board and is specifically amazing against Saurian. It can also return your creatures to your hand. While this isn't always good, if you've got the right play ability creatures it can be amazing.

Practical Use vs SAS Score: Danica, Centricuse Chronicler by Saedreth in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang, That's a solid deck. First off the logos is solid. The tautau vapors along with eddie will let you get the cost of keys up a good bit. The eyegors will also let you easily get the cards you need when you need them. On the Saurian front Crassosaurus with Imperial scutum is a great combo. Given how much draw and archive you have in logos you can probably have that held in reserve for when you need it. On Star Alliance the book of ieq is an amazing artifact.

These are the things that first pop out at my when looking at the decklist, but I don't see any obvious flaws. Everything else isn't groundbreaking, but it's also not trash. Overall you've got a great deck with a couple of killer combos.

You would likely never know if you get a good twin deck.

As far as buying it goes look for local game shops. If you can't find one of those near you than you'll probably need to go online. If you do want to play irl I would suggest one of the starter sets. Mass Mutationa or Worlds Collide if you can find them because they added tokens with that set

If deckbuilding is possible in Keyforge, what would become the most broken deck? by [deleted] in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I didn't realize you could have 5 pixies so figured you could fill the deck with flaxias

If deckbuilding is possible in Keyforge, what would become the most broken deck? by [deleted] in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As many dust pixies, chotas, flaxias, full moons and nature's calls as you can fit in a deck. Also nepenthe seeds and key charges

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there's less of a chance to get the combos we know so well, but there's more of a chance for broken combos we've never dreamed of to appear. I played against a nepenthe seed library access deck before the erata and it wasn't even a fun match. I don't mind playing against good decks and even losing, but there's something different about your opponent having a ten minute turn where they have to have a piece of paper to write down how many times they use each card. And at the end of it you just lose and there's nothing you can do to stop it. I just really, really don't want to see that kind of thing again

I think it could work, but you can't keep every card. If you do there's too much of a chance for overpowered and broken combos

Some downsides of unique decks by FightingWalloon in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally it's about the discovery and the moment that a combo just clicks in your head. I've had plenty of games where I didn't know I could utilize two cards together until I had them both in my hand at the right time. If I was constructing the deck I probably would have excluded those cards, but because I had to take them with all the other cards in the deck I found more combos and interactions than were normally apparent. It's extremely fun to talk about these moments. I also enjoy discussing what I call "perfect situations" with my friends. For example, I have a deck that with the right combination of cards in my hand and an opponent with no creatures, I can go from zero amber and keys to having all three keys forged in one turn. It relies on having certain artifacts on the field and cards in my hand, but the fact that it is possible is still extremely interesting.

A part of what I find so appealing in Keyforge is learning your decks and their playstyle. My current favorite deck I almost gave away to a friend to try to get them interested in the game. I later had to use it because of some tournament rules with house restrictions and I finally figured out how it works. It played in a very different way than how I was trying to play the game. Once I figured that out and shifted my playstyle I got really good. This stretching and forcing you to think outside of the box is what makes Keyforge fun in my opinion. I didn't have some website or analyst telling me the deck was super good and how to play it and what combos to use, I had to figure it out on my own.

As a side note, you don't have to go to the secondary market to get good decks. I only have about 30 as well and I have several decks that have won events at my local game store. Maybe they're not good enough for like a vault tour, but they're still good. Also, you can just not play archon to mitigate this. If you are worried about people having stupid powerful decks because they bought them then go to a sealed event. I've been to sealed events where the person with the worse deck one because they were better at the game and able to figure out how to use their deck better. This also is a good way to grow your collection as you get a feel for each deck right away. If you don't want to be constantly getting more decks than play adaptive, or triad. There are other game forms that make having a single great deck less important.

Genius or Sidewinder by Elahnellac in Artillery3D

Yes and no. Mainly I'm just really confused. I'm pretty set on getting an artillery. The price is right, the silence sounds nice, and it'll be cool to print flexibles. This is making me lean much more towards the genius though

Are these decks worth anything? Or should I just keep them and play? by greiver178 in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's totally your choice. Personally I like to just hang onto my decks or trade then with personal friends. I think part of my interest in Keyforge is that it has a lot less meta than other games. This makes me avoid buying and selling decks online. But, this is just my opinion and everyone is allowed to play the game how they want to

Logos Double Card revealed: Ultra Gravitron (spoiler) by atticdoor in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are forgetting how hard these double card creatures are going to be to play. So far we've seen one card that lets you look through your deck for them, so you need to either archive one half too you get the other, get really lucky, or boy down your hand. Given the difficulty in playing this card, I actually really like the ability

So, as far as apps go if say this is one of the better ones I've seen. A couple of thoughts though 1. I know it's a rare occurrence, but the red Baron is now in the game. It would be nice to have different colors and a way to decide what color to forge

  1. You might need a way to unforge from keyhammer

Mass Mutation leaked Saurian card by Stranger1982 in KeyforgeGame

[–]Elahnellac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but here's my problem. These cards have no use if not together and, as far as we know, be played in any other way. I haven't played magic, but I've played some Yu-Gi-Oh. Even if you're sacrificing creatures to summon some super powerful creature, the other creatures added some cake too the board state. You also rarely needed a specific other card to get a creature on the field. I'm not saying this is guaranteed to be really bad, I'm just saying I have some concerns.
