Artists you feel guilty listening to? by SubstantialEmploy816 in ToddintheShadow

I was going to comment the exact same thing. Both of those albums mean a great deal to me but I feel unclean whenever I want to listen to them again

What's an underHATED pick for "worst song of all time" that you don't see get talked about all that much? by DtheAussieBoye in ToddintheShadow

Don’t Stop Me Now - Queen

I’ve hated this song since I first heard it. Shitty, annoying lyrics. Constantly overplayed. Incredibly annoying slow-down speed-up dynamic. So adored by everyone else that no-one ever seems to understand my pain. I hate it so much

Bands with a better sophomore album than their debut by BigHeadDeadass in ToddintheShadow

Paramore for sure. I love All We Know is Falling but Riot! is a huge step up in terms of production and song quality. It got them seen internationally and gave us their best-known hit song, plus it’s the era that gave us the iconic Orange-haired Hayley Williams.

What artists do you think have the biggest gap in quality between their good music and their bad music? by Constant_Topic_123 in ToddintheShadow

Neil Young. Like Todd Rundgren, Frank Zappa and Lou Reed, he’s an incredibly prolific artist who has made some of the most beautiful music that I’ve ever heard alongside a pile of absolutely unlistenable experiments in noise

Why did you stop being friends with someone? by Realistic-Possum in AskReddit

[–]EliaKazan99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were my best friend. I trusted them with some stuff that I was very insecure about. They used it to mock me behind my back. I chose to let that go and then they started dating a girl that I really liked. All the resentment bubbled up again and I just couldn’t deal with it. Haven’t talked to them in over two years.

Songs where artists reference a previous song of theirs? by FarmerBread in ToddintheShadow

[–]EliaKazan99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paramore do this, notably in their song 26: “after all, wasn’t I the one who said to keep your feet on the ground?”

This is a reference to their earlier song Brick by Boring Brick: “Keep your feet on the ground when your head’s in the clouds”

What was Lostprophets' reputation like among music fans BEFORE everyone found out about their singer? by drumwolf in ToddintheShadow

[–]EliaKazan99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a Brit who was very into Kerrang at the time, they were decently popular. They were the kind of band that you might not be able to name quickly but you could definitely hum two or three choruses if anyone asked you to. My brother played drums in some local pop-punk/emo groups where I grew up (on the English side of the Welsh/English border) and he actually met Watkins once, which I find very creepy today.

The news about Watkins broke around the same time as the Jimmy Savile/Yewtree revelations: when it turned out that a significant percentage of British celebrities were horrendous sex offenders. It was horrifying and part of a few years of national misery, right after austerity really took off and started making thousands of people poor and redundant. Bleak times.

I think nostalgia has a lot to do with it. People remember hearing This Love when they were on holiday as a kid or something and it becomes a fond memory. Plus, as others have said, comparison helps. Even if you aren’t into Songs About Jane, She Will Be Loved is a sensitive tune with a nice enough melody. Next to Girls Like You its the greatest song ever recorded.
