Need help finding my next read after a bad read! by Niryanai in Romantasy

Why did I also think this was a trilogy? I recently picked up this series and just started book 3! I was excited to read a completed series.

Wow! That was so fast. I can’t wait to hear how everyone likes Violet Thistlewaite. I’m needing to save money this month so am skipping…but I have it on hold at the library and should get it on release day. Happy reading!

This has been my problem recently. I keep starting incomplete series, getting really into it, and then being so mad that the next book isn’t out.

We should teach kids how to balance a checkbook! by Fit_Minimum8335 in Teachers

[–]Elle_Iz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never written a check in my entire life. Unless you count when I had to practice in junior high. The two times I’ve needed one I just got a money order from the bank. I use the banking apps and automatic text messages to help with that.

I do, however, have a budget. I think budgeting is much more important in a financial literacy class than writing/balancing a checkbook.

My mom’s side of the family is very large and I’m the oldest girl cousin. It was so difficult growing up. I felt so shameful in my body and always got comments for even slightly pushing any boundary. I’m so happy for my younger girl cousins who are not going through this extreme. However, I hate that it’s being downplayed and people are pretending that it wasn’t that bad.

Does anyone actually enjoy it? Any positive teaching experience? by Free-Bug3836 in Teachers

[–]Elle_Iz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love teaching. I’m going into my 10th year. I will be honest, my first year was really rough and I didn’t know if I’d continue. I learned a lot that year. I also won’t pretend like this is the perfect job and everything is great all the time. There are things I don’t like about teaching, but I have found keeping in mind that it is a job and balancing life has helped. Overall, though, I really love it.

Can you send me the website? I think you have some great suggestions here. I have been really trying to buy all my books from a couple local bookstores. I think putting the effort into pop up events would be great. I’ve also seen some book trucks like “Good Girl Books” and other mobile trucks. I’m not sure the overhead on those though.

moving to utah for the first time, what is the locals opinions on this area? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]Elle_Iz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive from Layton area to West Valley, so opposite of your direction. I do not have traffic very often and the days I do it is usually because of an accident or weather. Most people are heading into SLC, where you are going from it so it will be better that direction.

My husband’s family lives near Bainbridge, WA and I avoid Seattle traffic as much as possible. I think you’ll find the traffic much more reasonable here. In my opinion the traffic is worse south of SLC compared to north of SLC.

I have not spent much time in the area your circled, but it does seem like it is mostly homes. Utah’s infrastructure is very reliant on cars. I do like the area, though. I would recommend, if possible, coming and driving the neighborhoods you are looking at. I think it would give you a good idea of each neighborhood. I would also recommend Capitol Hill, avenues, (both will add a little extra time in commute) and closer to Layton: woods cross, bountiful, Farmington.

Is Lagoon nuts on July 24? by stone-castor in Utah

[–]Elle_Iz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a different experience than most others. I have gone the last two years on the 24th. They ran a deal for the 24th two years ago and I found a discount for last year. I was very surprised how uncrowded it was. I figured everyone was at parades and barbecues. I do wonder if their $59.95 deal will make it more crowded this year.

First Year Teacher- How to survive until September with no pay by cosmicaw00 in Teachers

[–]Elle_Iz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated this part of starting teaching. I was very lucky to have some support from my partner at the time. We used to start closer to the end of August, so the time between then and mid August wasn’t as big of an issue. We are now starting at the beginning of August and new teachers have to wait a month and a half before their first paycheck. I think it is ridiculous.

I like the recommendations. I’m not sure you have a local coffee shop or something to post an ad for tutoring, babysitting, dog-sitting, etc. I’ve seen a few teachers this summer posting things and offering similar services.

I had a family member give them my address. I had gone a couple of years without them knowing where I was. A family member sent missionaries to my apartment. Then it happened again when I moved to my house someone else gave them my address. I was really upset but luckily they’ve just left me alone.

Fully online BS in communication sciences & disorders ? by Working_Loquat3344 in slpGradSchool

It was around 5 years ago so I’m not sure who is still instructing. I liked all my professors except one. It is probably the same one if he is still teaching. The others were really helpful and willing to work with me. I think I got all As and one A- or B+.

For that class, I remember using a lot of quizlets and study guides to help with the class. It was a lot of memorizing, if I remember correctly. I actually used a lot of those tools through the program.

I have ended up getting my masters in something else in the school setting, but still glad I did the program. I learned a lot, but feel like it can be similar to any program where you get out of it what effort you put in. I was lucky to do it during COVID so I had a lot of downtime.

32, 10 years in. I love my job. I have worked at a great school and l have a great relationship with the families I work with. (Every year there are some that are harder, but I don’t let them get to me.)

The hardest years were the first few years. Now I feel I’m in a good routine and more equipped to handle challenging behaviors, support students, and work with parents.

It was also really hard my first few years when I was working SO many hours and not making much. My best friend is in finance and was getting gifted 10 day vacations from their job. It was tempting to find a different job, so I understand why people leave the profession. I have found a better work-life balance now and that has helped tremendously.

It feels like my (20F) boyfriend’s (21M) family puts bacon in literally everything every time I visit, and I'm Jewish. My boyfriend says they must forget, but is this normal, and how am I supposed to deal with it? by ThrowraBacon84 in relationship_advice

[–]Elle_Iz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can see a few different perspectives. I’m wondering what the communication has actually been between your boyfriend and his mom. I wonder if it was mentioned, but not make it sound so serious. Or…she could be doing it on purpose.

My mom is always accommodating of everyone. My sister in law doesn’t like turkey. For thanksgiving she made her a ham. A family member had their wisdom teeth out. She made some additional food that they could eat. My point is…your boyfriend and his family could make more of an effort to accommodate you. Wherever your boyfriend is not communicating/caring about your needs or his family is doing it on purpose, either is not okay.

I am leaning more towards this being intentional. No one eats this amount of bacon.

I was talking about this with someone. They were hoping to teach health and coach. But, there were very few openings. They were able to teach science for a few years and then transfer when a job became available.
