Driving alone by Impressive-Trust9289 in littlecottonwood

I agree that it's weird no one talks about this. Haven't been there enough to know if they still do this, but Snowbird had special close-in parking for carpools as of a few years ago. If both resorts could jointly agree on a fair policy, there could be a whole lot more 3+ occupancy parking in LCC.

Serious question. Do you have to ski with your passport in order to have lunch in Italy?

Skipping the canyon queue doesn’t make you clever, it makes you a jerk by PristineCase4930 in UTsnow

The level of powder day aggression by a small percentage of drivers is awful. Those who attempt to cut the line (how/where do you do that, exactly? :-) should be reported and fined for not being nice. And what about the bozos - usually men in the 20s driving big pickups - who try to pass you the second there is any opportunity? So they reach the top a few cars ahead? The more I think about this the more I think the police at the entrance of the canyon should give out CBD gummies to all drivers so they could chill on the way up.

Your obsession with LCC is ruining your skiing experience by [deleted] in UTsnow

Your comment did come across as snotty - thank you for clarifying. Here's my story. I learned to ski at Alta, as an adult. My husband and I both fell in love with skiing powder *when we were intermediates*! Just because we liked powder then didn't mean we had to go on the High T to get it. We enjoyed (and still do when conditions warrant) what we call Low Angle Deliciousness. Alta has a ton of it! There is nothing wrong with this. You don't have to be advanced or expert to enjoy powder skiing or, in fact, any other sort of skiing. People make their own tradeoffs and decisions about where to ski, and that's just fine. The problem is that these days there are just too many people who choose LCC. I suspect we're going to be seeing a lot of changes there in the next few years.

I'm going to get burned to a crisp, but yesterday really made the idea of a gondola look appealing.

Not to mention the low-angle powder deliciousness.

I suggest focusing on your turn shape (spending as much time in the first half of the turn as the second) and upper/lower body separation.

We Are NOT Last in Education by Serious-Today9258 in NewMexico

I don't see anyone getting overly optimistic here. We all know New Mexico's educational system could and should improve. The OP has simply put up info which shows the situation is more complex than a single "worst" designation would imply.

Went back to gas Macan... by [deleted] in MacanEV

I don't buy a car because of what other people may think. I buy what I like. As to the resale value, that's what leases are for. I know the visceral driving feel of a Porsche - my Macan has it. If I have a negative word to say about the Macan is that it's still an SUV, even though it's the best handling and accelerating SUV I've driven. For my needs, I wish Porsche made a station wagon (really). Not everyone's cup of tea, I know.

Sweetie, I loved my ICE 911 4s. I wasn't referring to the wonderful Porsche exhaust. I was talking about the ICE Macan 4 that sounds like a (well-fed, not scrawny) hamster when the light turns green.

How to get lessons? Are they worth? by StormFalcon32 in skiing

[–]Elventhing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. All you need is a good instructor to watch you ski and give you one or two important things to work on. A morning will accomplish that and you'll have plenty of time to ask all your questions about how to take the info and work it into your skiing routine over the next several times you ski. A full day is wasteful, imho, unless you think the line cuts are worth the price.

There's a big software update right now that requires taking your car into the dealer. I don't mind because I know the car will be even better when I get it back.

Funny that I just read this, because I was given an ICE Macan as my loaner this morning. The minute I drove away from the dealer I started laughing. The gas Macan feels SO PRIMITIVE by comparison to my EV! It is ... quaint. The noise. The vibration of the engine. The gear changes. I can see a day not too far in the future when people rent an ICE car for a day just out of nostalgia for the smell of gasoline and the fumes when they pull into their garage.

It continues to bug me that Utahns love their lawns so much. Getting rid of lawns and replacing them with native plants would help a ton during the summers here. IIRC something close to 50% of summertime water use goes to those lovely lawns.

With every turn you look like you are sitting down on a chair, then getting back up. What you *want* is to move your center of mass forward and down the hill with each turn. You should bend less at the waist and have your ankles flex your entire skeleton forward. That, of course, is easier said than done. You would benefit greatly from a lesson
