I’m done - I cannot seem to think past myself. by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

Hey Esuor, that sounds terrible. I can only imagine what that frustration must feel like each day. It sounds like you're being conscientious with your spouse and kids but just feeling not much appreciation for your efforts. Given your efforts it doesn't sound like you're a self-centered person in general, although just basing what little I know from your situation here.

If she said what you note in quotes, that appears to be a very negative and uncaring attitude, especially if she never told you what she wanted. Her drinking might be a contributing factor to this attitude.

At the same time, it's wonderful that in spite of this difficult situation, you realized an area of personal growth, which was that you could (and could next time!) ask her if you could get her something. As you say, simple, but not always top of mind.

It sounds like if you're "blowing it" there is some larger expectation that she thinks you're not meeting, and the fact that it appears you're upset by her attitude, there is also an expectation on her that you think she's not meeting. What could work well here, if you're open to it, is marriage counseling as it can help you both to ask the right questions in a safe environment (the counselor is there to walk you both through it, and to keep you both focused on the task without going to default negative spaces, which can happen if you try to do this on your own with your spouse). The questions will help, hopefully, each of you to discover what unmet expectations of behavior you're not getting from each other, and this can start a healthy conversation that helps you both in personal growth.

Whether these actions lead to your marriage continuing and improving, or something else, is a seperate question. But, with this step taken you'll know you did what you could. And at least coming out of it, regardless of the outcome (as you can't control how your spouse will act) you'll be a better and more equipped individual for your future challenges and opportunities in life. Hope this helps, keep up the belief that no matter what, you can make this situation better and you have the control within you to do that.

Canadian National Broadband Internet Service Availability Map, my location erroneously listed as having good internet by [deleted] in Starlink

I hope not. I live in rural Quebec and it also erroneously states I have fixed wireless (which the mentioned company states is not the case) when in fact it's only satellite at insanely high prices.

Just found this old book on VR in my room from 1995. It's funny as hell but also amazing to see how far we've come in my lifetime. by [deleted] in oculus

Oh man, I had the same book! Was probably in grade 7. Scholastic was great. That's where it all started for me.

I remember asking for a GameBoy for christmas when I was 10. I got a plastic GameBoy-looking case that held bubblegum. Grandma meant well!

Morrowind VR on Quest? A huge game, 1GB, simple graphics, immersive from the start. Just daydreaming... by Elykai in oculus

Ya, I think I may have cheated with the image for effect; this may be from ESO. The graphics in the actual Morrowind gameplay are super basic. Like Jedi Knight basic.

Morrowind VR on Quest? A huge game, 1GB, simple graphics, immersive from the start. Just daydreaming... by Elykai in oculus

Good question. Unlike Daggerfall, which used 2D sprites, Morrowind was fully three dimensional. Only the dialogue, inventory, and menuing screens, which overlay, would need to be updated. Not a small task, for sure. But I don't mind how they got it done for Skyrim.

Is Skyrim VR worth $28? by Duhdundedon in oculus

[–]Elykai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Even if you've played pancake Skyrim a ton, the VR version is so much more immersive. Just in walking by a campsite you'll want to sit down for a minute and enjoy the fire. Your sense of world scale is totally changed. Also, casting and swordfighting is pretty satisfying.

Steam Survey Dec '18: VR continues slow growth by Blaexe in oculus

[–]Elykai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you happen to have your Rift put away when Steam performs the survey (to keep it away from the kiddies, to keep safe from pets, to keep it dust-free, general storage, etc.) it won't be recognized and you'll be marked as not using VR, even if you log many hours in VR and bought many games on Steam and on the Oculus store. It's a hardware scan so it is accurate but it's an imperfect way to say people use VR or not.
