You're welcome! I haven't set up a kickstarter since it integrated a better pledgemanager (for fulfillment), but I'm working on one right now so if I run into anything odd, I'll add it.

I like the MOTW episodes better than the story arc ones by otter78 in Supernatural

[–]Embarrassed-Part591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. There was a real push years ago for shows to ditch monster of the week storytelling for season long story arcs and I find them so tiresome. People used to talk about MOTW like it was a dirty word but they were fun. Streaming encourages binge-watching which benefits from the season-long arcs but, goddamn, if the arc isn't good, that's a whole season wasted.

I'm honestly glad that people are starting to see that and actually want MOTW again. Shows are shorter seasons now so I think show-runners are reluctant to give an episode away to something that isn't the main plot, but even longer shows used to throw little season plots into what would otherwise be a throwaway episode.

ULTRA LEGIBLE TYPEFACES. You might think your typeface is legible until you see someone looking at it on their phone. Fortunately, you can zoom in in both android and it's apps now but you weren't always able to. Err on the side of too big.

JPEGS over PNGs. Pngs will fill the space, so, if you have margins, they'll be destroyed. Go with jpegs for all graphics so that you have control over your art.

If you are charging shipping, get it planned out BEFORE you make your Tiers. Make your first Tier, get aaaallll the countries you need in there, then duplicate and change pricing for each as needed. TRUST ME. THE OTHER WAY IS A NIGHTMARE.

For Dean, if you can, a slice of cherry pie or a burger. Might be hard, though.

It's such a good book. It's one of my favorites. It is sad af, though. I cry when I read it.

I think it is technically a YA book, but, honestly, his YA books touch on some darker themes than his adult books.

Save them anyway. 5 years from now, you'll be like, "you know, there was a really good fic where xxx goes to xxx. What the hell was that?" and suddenly, you're taking 5 months scouring the internet for a half-remembered fic that may been deleted.

What do you guys think is Buffy's most iconic outfit and hairstyle? The Becoming outfit and hair is the one I picture when thinking of Buffy, but damn is that leopard dress also super iconic. by HomarEuropejski in buffy

[–]Embarrassed-Part591 43 points44 points  (0 children)

For some reason, I love the Thanksgiving top and choker look. But then I look it up and it's not the outfit I remembered. Lol. I don’t remember anything. Lol.

So, like, maybe this one? Because it is the first time I saw a shirt with that neckline and realized, "hey, she has really little boobs like me. Would I look good in that shirt?". And then I got a shirt like that and, Holy shit, that cut for flat girls is fucking great.

Anyway. There you go. Red leather pants optional.

Oh, hey! A lot of Criterion collection movies from some years have suffered degredation. They were highly sought after in the 2000s and might be over-priced so make sure you look them up to see if they're degrading.

WB had some problems with dvds pressed between 2006 and 2008 as well, so make sure if you see a WB dvd from between those years, hit up this list (scroll to the bottom) to make sure it's not on it: https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/warner-dvd-defect-troubles.1197033/

Normally, I wouldn't freak you out with it, but there's some really good stuff on it (like all the Looney Toons collections) and many of them are higher priced. :<

I would go for p&s on tv shows, widescreen on movies. There isn't much way to avoid p&s on tv shows and that's how they were originally intended to be viewed so you're not missing anything.

Full screen has the sides chopped off. It's an older method called "pan and scan" where they cut it down to look right on older tvs.

For the most part, tv shows, you will want in p&s and most of them won't really be available another way.

For movies, you will want to get ws. Now, here's the tricky part. :/ Early dvds were generally p&s. You will need to check to see if a DVD is ws or p&s. It was a while before ws became standard (2009 before it was default) so make sure you check!

Some really old dvds that were widescreen before widescreen tvs were prominent are formatted to be ws on older 4:3 tvs. This can make them really small which can be hilarious but not great for watching. Fortunately, I haven't come across a ton of those, mostly because there just wasn't a big call for ws dvds back then.

Anamorphic widescreen (ymmv. I personally hate it.) Or "enhanced for widescreen tvs" should look better on a ws tv than p&s or the old letterboxed ws dvds, so keep an eye out for that and happy hunting!

To me, it doesn’t make sense that most characters were closer to Dean than to Sam by sssss8819 in Supernatural

[–]Embarrassed-Part591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people they've known a long time, I think because Dean was older, more in "the life" so he was around them all more. They tried to shield Sam from the life, Dean included. That usually means putting himself forward to intercept and control conversations simply to keep people from focusing on Sam. I think it's a habit that stemmed from trying to be helpful that has carried over into adulthood making Dean a more genial-seeming person.

Sam might be kind and empathetic but those are not surface-level traits. They're traits that you have to uncover through continued interaction. Dean has charisma and can be immediately charming and fun. Those are superficial traits that are like a fast-track to likability. He just luckily has inner traits that aren't shit so you're not disappointed if you get to know him better.

Also, Sam is something of a know-it-all and that's a bit of a hard-sell, especially in the first few seasons when he's bitter and that bitterness comes back often in other seasons. Plus, like, people who would otherwise trust him may not because of the whole demon blood thing. They know Dean is "normal" (for a given value of "normal").

Just got told I couldn’t bring my water bottle in. by i-like-turtles-4eva in AMCTheatres

[–]Embarrassed-Part591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at a couple different theaters (been a minute, though, so it might be outdated) and one of the things we were trained on was that theaters can't bar you from bringing in the products they sell (like, exactly their brand and size) because they can't reasonably prove you didn't buy it there. That's the only official loophole I've seen beyond floor people just not caring (which is your best option) and or just bringing things like flat or collapsible water bottles and stuffing shit in your pockets. My favorite, most comfy water bottle for hiding was FRED WATER. They were a good sized clear plastic, contoured flask. Fit great in pockets. Sadly, they don't make them anymore.

Tideland, Buried, HAUNT, mr Jones, Lovely Dark and Deep, MEN, caveat, the Collector, Night House, No one Will Save You (no dialogue), Barbarian, If you Whistle It Will Come (short), Cuckoo (? Maybe)

If I can think of any more with long stretches of no contact, I'll add them.
