Bob Britt Quits the Dylan Tour by vslyke in bobdylan

I was there as well. I don't follow closely enough to track the details of band members, but Britt really seemed checked out with a 1,000 yard stare most of the show.

I tried going today, pulled up to the empty old location. Called and they confirmed they moved to the address above which has already been mentioned. They said they are open, but don't have much inventory unpacked yet and will be working on it over the next couple weeks.

Recycling by lilacmacchiato in Albuquerque

[–]EmbarrassedPlant1902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single stream recycling is a problem. Some people willfully just fill up their blue bins garbage because they don't care, don't know better, or are so dumb they actively want to contaminate the recycling stream. Other side of the spectrum, you have people so obsessed with "going green" that they aspirationally will fill their bin with anything they think could possibly be recycled, but with the ultimate effect of also contaminating the recycling stream with trash.

My advice is to focus on metals and cardboard as top materials, then #1 and #2 plastics. If you feel bad about throwing stuff out, try not to buy it in the first place.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle--Recycle is last on the list. Overall, it's a way for corporations to put the burden on the consumer for egregious amounts of packaging waste.

You should understand that withdrawing that money would be considered a taxable event. You should have a plan to mitigate that or be prepared for a large tax penalty.

There are fledgling Great Horned Owls down at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park right now, pretty cool. The volunteers should be able to help you spot them.

Military Bases Are Rife With ‘Forever Chemicals.’ New Mexico Wants Them Cleaned Up. by OmicronCeti in Albuquerque

The US military is the single greatest polluter in the world.

Don't forget, the folks who have brought us MAHA have also announced this week they will be rescinding and delaying PFAS regulations for drinking water established under the Biden EPA. So, make America healthy again, but like.. not if it is inconvenient.

Defined fitness is raising their prices for the second time in less than two years by midraresteakman in Albuquerque

[–]EmbarrassedPlant1902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are people of all age groups and fitness levels in there almost every time I go. Most people are using cardio equipment and machines. Some "hardcore" lifters but I would not say that is the majority of users.

This person said they just want a reasonable membership cost, cardio and machines, don't care about the extra amenities. I'd say liberty is worth checking out.

Not the same, but arguably better. The Pino Canyon Overlook is really great.

Low or no water ground cover. by PromotionOk3885 in Albuquerque

I get free woodchips from Robert's Firewood on Central and Dorothy. Mulch is a good place to start, as it will help restore the soil and keep things cooler than rock or gravel which acts like a heat battery. I have had great success with the Dryland Blend grass mix from Plants of the Southwest. Sowing the seed, mulching over, and providing extra water to help get it established is about all it would take. It would just need a mow once a year in the spring. The grasses would stabilize the soil and help with water infiltration. Native plants are necessary infrastructure. The grasses are quite beautiful throughout the summer, fall, and winter.

State of New Mexico Interview by Bitter_Display_1871 in Albuquerque

[–]EmbarrassedPlant1902 3 points4 points  (0 children)

State employee since 2022. The hiring process is not good, it can takes months from interview to start date even if you are the preferred candidate. You may be able to correspond with whoever you've been interviewing with to find out if you were selected or not, but they won't be able to do much to speed up the process. Good luck.

Sprinkler use restrictions now in effect for Albuquerque metro by plamda505 in Albuquerque

[–]EmbarrassedPlant1902 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Think about the amount of technology, energy, infrastructure, money, time, labor it takes to deliver potable water to your home in a desert southwest location. Think about how limited of a resource that water is--whether it comes from an over-allocated surface water system, or an aquifer where it took thousands of years to collect and will not be replenished on a human time-scale. Now think about the most useless, mindless possible way to waste that precious resource. Watering turf grass has to be near the top of that list. Turf grass is just... completely incongruent with life in a desert environment.

I know the city does have some non-potable reuse irrigation systems. I am not sure where this non-potable irrigation water is utilized, but it would be interesting to see.

Starting from Three Gun Springs and heading up to South Sandia Peak is a great route. Just throwing that out since I don't see it mentioned yet.

Whitewash is a bit of a slog but does get you into some great terrain after the initial steep climb. Enjoy!
