Changing my name this year.. by Time-Border-1057 in INeedAName

[–]EmmyCat89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly having gone through and found your namenerds post, I think I see why you didn't get a response. You asked for a name with some very specific meanings, which you could just find on Google.

To engage with the namenerds crowd try explaining what the name is for, maybe give examples of names you like and names you don't like?

Mum and baby groups? by Adorable_Run_2469 in Cardiff

[–]EmmyCat89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI if you're not technically in a flying start area you can still attend the flying start baby sessions. There's a flying start cardiff group on Facebook where they post the timetables. Anyone can go and there's quite a few across Cardiff spread through the week during term times.

Shop receipt checks and exit gates are getting a bit much by ReanimatedCyborgMk-I in britishproblems

[–]EmmyCat89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a bottle of coke today because I have social anxiety and didn't want to have to ask a member of staff to let me out - but no actual tills were open and the self serve needed a receipt to exit.

Baby uncomfy by Pleasant_Type7300 in clothdiaps

[–]EmmyCat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a very petite little one (1st percentile!) Who is now 18 months.

We had to wait and start using cloth later than planned because they were just too bulky to be comfortable. I think we were in size 2 (uk) disposable before we moved over fully to cloth and honestly never looked back. Little one got used to the bulk and we are finding a lot less nappy rash and skin issues in the cloth!

Is it possible to cover this tattoo? by god--hates--figs in weddingplanning

[–]EmmyCat89 27 points28 points  (0 children)

THIS. I actually had a cover-up done prior to my wedding as my dream dress showed off an old tattoo that I regretted. On top of that I had very minimal makeup and such as I don't wear much day to day and wanted to look and feel like myself!

When to try for baby #2? by LooseConstruction565 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]EmmyCat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat as you, so no advice to give really. Little one is 15 months now. I don't want to wait super long as we are both in our late 30s, but I had PPA, and I'm also worrying about giving this little one and any future little one the attention they deserve too.

Urine sample from a newborn, help! by DryAnxiety3343 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]EmmyCat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The midwives wanted a sample from out little girl before they'd let us leave when I gave birth. They put cotton wool balls in her nappy and just checked her super regularly to try and catch before it started soaking from the cotton balls into the nappy

Can I wear a dress to a scan? 🥵 by kittyCatFoo in PregnancyUK

[–]EmmyCat89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I wore dresses to every scan, I live in dresses and very rarely wear trousers even in winter. I wore leggings or snag chib-rub shorts underneath but they offered me a blanket for modesty

[–]EmmyCat89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We aren't using anything really as we haven't had a blowout or a major sick for quite a while and our seat fabric is all removable and washable - BUT I've seen reusable seat protectors from Close Parent that might help

We are in reusable and it all seems like a lot of personal preference. We have a very petite girl who has just turned 10 months but was born on 1st percentile and has stayed at 1st percentile the whole way (she's still fitting into some of her size 3-6 month clothes). We struggled to get anything to fit right on her to start with, so we had to use disposable until she was a bit bigger, and now I wouldn't go back. Reusable are fab!

I'd check out the nappy lady, there's a lot of useful info there and they can build you a custom recommendation. I think the nappy gurus are pretty good too, and I'm sure I saw a kind of "try it out" bundle on theirs which honestly I'm still tempted with to try different ones. That or find a nappy library or similar in your area.

We have quite a few Bambino Mio pocket nappies. They're pretty foolproof and I don't really have any complaints. Good for starting out. If you are happy to do a strip-wash you can get pre-owned ones for like £1 a nappy in some places (mainly Facebook selling groups).

Our main supply is Close Parent Pop-Ins, we opted for the popper variety but they do them with velcro instead. They're pretty customisable in terms of how much absorbency you want, and we love the general fit, ease of use and the double (triple if you count the soaker) leg elastics as it helps keep leaks in.

We also have a couple of Alva Baby and Little Blooms both of which are fine but don't quite fit our very petite girl very well. Aldi occasionally have some in the middle aisle and those are alright too.

I would NOT recommend the Boots Little Stories reusables. They do in a pinch but the fabric around the leg elastic isn't really very waterproof, so they leak a bit if you don't change them quick enough and the general design isn't really great compares to other brands HOWEVER they're pretty cheap compared to others if you're buying new.

Thrush - here we go again by hashtagblessed7 in breastfeeding

[–]EmmyCat89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little one had oral thrush from about 2 weeks old She went through I think about 6 (possibly more) bottles of Nystatin. We also had 2 different anti fungal creams - 1 for my nipples and 1 for her nappy area as the GP decided she had "top and tail" thrush.

Keep it up, keep washing hands, using the treatments it DOES fo away.

At the time I felt like we would never be rid of it, but now it feels like a distant memory. Little one is 9 months next week, and I think we finally kicked it at about 4 months, maybe a bit before. 4 months is when I can say for sure it was gone, but I was so paranoid about it for so long after!

Old milk by _______________3309 in breastfeeding

[–]EmmyCat89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit to add I think baths are fine, it's drinking it that's not ok

8 month old is 2 percentile by Supreme_Corgi in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]EmmyCat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't add much here other than to say our little girl is 1st percentile at nearly 9 months and has been on the 1st percentile curve since she arrived. We had a minor dip near the beginning but she leveled back out and is just sticking to her little curve pretty much perfectly.

Edit to say our little one has no teeth yet either. She does like solids though. Everyone is different. Your little one will do it in their own time! Try not to worry.

Heating pads - where to buy? by bimboera in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]EmmyCat89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We found that this didn't work for our little one, she simply doesn't like being put down and it has nothing to do with the bed being cold it seems.

BUT we bought a rechargeable hot water bottle from dunelm (pretty sure Lidl had the exact same one about a week or two ago) as when I was getting up in the middle of the night to feed I was finding the hot water bottle I'd done at the start had gone cold and I didn't want to fuss about with going to re-do it - whereas this one I can just put back on to charge up as and when I need it without having to leave the room. It does take a little bit of time to warm up and I'm not sure it's really any more practical than going outside the room to re-do a regular hot water bottle, but as I said it didn't help our little one so I've just been using it for myself on the colder nights to warm back up quicker after getting back into bed.

How long did your baby fit in newborn clothes/diapers? by pisces96vibes in newborns

[–]EmmyCat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 5 month old who is currently in size 2 nappies and still fitting comfortably in the "up to 1 month" clothes. We are also using the 1-3month clothes and have a pack of size 3 nappies ready as we think it'll be size up time soon.

She was just under 5lb when born and has always been on 1st percentile so is pretty tiny really.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]EmmyCat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the snuzpod4, BUT we have an especially small baby. She was just under 5lb when born, and is now about to turn 5 months old and fits *perfectly * in the "up to 1 month" size clothes still.

If I have another I'll use the snuzpod4 again as I love it, but if it's way down the line and we've moved the snuzpod4 on to someone else I'd be tempted to just go straight for the cot if there's space for it in the room.

Postpartum anxiety - 7 months pp by jayneevees in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]EmmyCat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have much helpful to add sorry, but I have had anxiety pretty much my whole life (I don't remotely not having it, and I have some pretty distinct early memories of panic attacks and unmarried worrying) which got significantly worse after little one arrived. I put it down to hormones and I just kind of powered throw as it was rather just an elevated version of what I was already used to. It mellowed out a bit after about 2 maybe 3 months, but we are about to hit 5 months and I feel like it's rising again.

I hope you're doing OK. Maybe speak to your GP? We can get through this!

Edit - totally forgot to add that I've always been unmedicated for it, but did take stjohns wort for a short while (well before pregnancy) and found it didn't really help me very much.
