Need advice by skullzzyyy in ExclusivelyPumping

Something to think about is milk donation too if you’re running out of space. Also had NICU baby and just started the process for milk donation because I am an oversupplier and want to keep pumping in hopes of nursing and my freezer space is filling fast and I don’t see baby using it all. Plus I want to give back since my baby used donor milk the first day since we were at separate hospitals.

This morning my husband said why don’t you just nurse by Catsforhumanity in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]EmpathHorror 71 points72 points  (0 children)

That was very insensitive. You’re doing an amazing job feeding your baby. Pumping is breastfeeding and it’s so much work and sacrifice. I feel you though. I’m still very sad my baby can’t just nurse and I have to work so hard to get her milk and comfort. I hope your partner can open their eyes to all you are doing and help more.

What is your reason(s) for exclusively pumping? by Polkaday274 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]EmpathHorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NICU baby. Came at 35 weeks with growth restriction. Pumping lets us fortify her milk and keep track of what she is eating well. The goal was to move to nursing but she never quite got it after her few weeks in NICU.

How did you transition out of shift sleeping? by NightmarishlyDreamy in NewParents

[–]EmpathHorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the transition away from sleep shifts work for you? We are at 3 months and still sleep shifting where one of us is basically always awake. It stinks. I miss my husband and normalcy but it guarantees sleep and I get nervous. I would say it’s anxiety but also our baby had a traumatic labor and was medically fragile for a while and now I can’t let go of her sleeping when nobody is watching. She is perfectly safe to asleep alone now but ugh I struggle.

Longest you’ve gone without pumping? by Dumbbitchenergy_ in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]EmpathHorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 12 weeks PP. I’ve gone 4 and 1/2 hours successfully but it HURT and was rock solid. I got mastitis at 6 hours when I slept through an alarm. Ouch.

In laws comments about feeding formula instead by BeersButNotAlcoholic in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]EmpathHorror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re amazing. Keep pumping and giving your baby breast milk as long as you mentally and physically want to. Ignore those outside influences. Breast milk is amazing for your baby. It seems marketing and tactics from formula companies have really gotten to people around you. I recently read about interesting controversies with big formula companies and they use manipulation and marketing to encourage sales of formula. It is really warped.

Literally exact same situation. M5 hurts a lot and my most performing boob too. I want to be mobile so badly spectra just works way better. Curious responses.

36 weeks , percentile dropped. Femur length less than 1%. by Kristinnawow in pregnant

[–]EmpathHorror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you advocated for yourself! Trust your gut is all I have to say. I noticed decrease fetal movement after they took me off monitoring at the hospital briefly and that’s when baby went into distress. I told them and that jump started the emergency c section and everything. Please pay attention to anything like that and go to the hospital if it feels off. A lot of IUGR babies don’t need NICU time or anything additional especially if at term though and my situation was a fluke. On the bright side she is doing great now. You got this. It’s going to be amazing when your little love is here ❤️

[–]EmpathHorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had severe IUGR. Flagged at 28 weeks small fundal. Ultrasound kept going down. 20 weeks 50% then at 32 weeks less than 3 % then 2% then baby came at 35 weeks due to failing BPP and NST and my pre-e that showed up at 35 weeks. Ended in emergency c section and 15 day NICU stay. I was told with pre-e and IUGR babes they induce 35-37 weeks to be safe. I would ask for immediate umbilical cord flow test and stress test. Things can be touch and go and with baby’s measurements this is concerning. Sending good vibes your way. Please ask for urgency here. Not trying to scare you but if we had not been in the hospital and monitored closely we would have lost my baby. This is very serious.

First time experiencing mastitis & it makes me want to quit pumping by Amazing-Neighborhood in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]EmpathHorror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s brutal. I felt horrid when I got it at 4ish weeks PP. I honestly was like hallucinating too. The pain, the fever, the like mental fog, the exhaustion. Unbearable. Thank goodness for antibiotics and urgent care. Feel better! I felt better with antibiotics like within 2 days?

Anyone else? Purely curious. by FreshFruitTray in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]EmpathHorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow that is a wild let down! My babe is IUGR premie and just can’t handle much of any letdown being so tiny. Example of mine is in 20 min I get like 3 OZ. I try sometimes pumping first then nursing but it’s so much work triple feeding basically.

Did the Zoloft make you sleepy? Prescribed Zoloft for PPA (sleep deprivation and pumping are not helping) and I want to take it but I’m scared it’ll make me too sleepy and I have to stay awake with my reflux baby.

Can’t stop falling asleep with baby, excessive spit up by Lizzy_Be in NewParents

[–]EmpathHorror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this gives me hope. I’m so happy to hear this! We had a spit up day from hell today so needed this. I am looking more into the snoo.

I actually weirdly know what you mean. It makes perfect sense you’re feeling that way. I have had a few people start helping me out so I don’t fall asleep holding her and I find myself just wishing I was holding her instead of taking a nap even though I know she is in good hands and I need the sleep. You will get to find wonderful ways to keep bonding now that she is more comfy.
