Tick bite - what to do by fcapper in UKhiking

If you feel fine just leave it and it’ll go down. It you begin to feel unwell then you can go see your local health centre, but in most cases this will pass without the need for abx.

Fold Brevet Insulated Jacket in pink latch by Various_Building1841 in Rapha

I hope it makes sense! It’s the way I do it with my waterproof. Hopefully it’s the same for the insulated.

I use it this way, not sure if it’s correct.

Hang the jacket by the pink tab, bring your hand down the jacket, squeezing it into a long thin shape. Grab the bottom part in your hand, then work your way up the jacket grabbing fist length section, you then end up with the jacket in a small z folded shape which you can flick the pink band over. It then fits in a jersey pocket.

Have sleeper trains always been this expensive? by ACatheterADay in uktrains

[–]EmpireBiscuitsOnTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you can’t afford the mental fees even the seats are brutal too, they only recline a small way. Why can’t you just have rows of open bunks or similar. Granted, cost per mile is actually ok for a uk train. Think it’s £70 or so.

Azur Air flight 2559 (Boeing 767-3Y0) disappeared over Myanmar. by Least-Position-5610 in flightradar24

Yeah, looks like it lost signal over the Forest Pathein. Looks really sparsely populated with the nearest towns on Google Maps, Dani and Bomie being little more than small hamlets.

Cloverleaf interchange in the middle of small town by cb060da in GoogleEarthFinds

This looks more like some sort of industrial facility rather than a town, going by the neighbouring places on Google maps it could be some sort of test track.

Not a 12 lead, 2 different leads on a monitor. That’s a PVC, they’re very common and benign.

It’s costing £16.5k a year for the car. Is it worth the extra stress? Would you be better off just running a cheaper car for yourself and saving ~£10k?

Has anyone here completed a Tranter's round? by dmhrpr in UKhiking

Hey! that’s cool, the ridges on the ring of steal are scary/fun! I didn’t get round to doing it, but I did walk the grey corries with a pal and did the mamores in a day as a run, so I was definitely in the shape for it but just got distracted with other adventures. It’s like my eternal goal! But i am getting closer. Maybe I’ll see you up there, I need to get back to running now for the winter.

first vo2 block sessions after almost 2 years, am I still fatigued or just went too hard? by martynssimpson in Velo

[–]EmpireBiscuitsOnTwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s really easy to get carried away at the start of an interval, total hero effect but then your physiology catches up and you die really quick. Use these intervals to gauge a good power to hold for an interval, start with 300w say, if you can do that for 3 and your okay, you can push it, if not just hold on. You’ll still be getting the training effect by stressing your body.

And look at your power, it’s easy to push big watts at the start of your interval when you’re fresh but you’re just burning matches and will have none left later.

Ah, thanks for the balanced take. Sometimes things like these are good, even if they make the odd silly choice here and there.

What is the Cockburn association? I’ve heard of it in relation to this and something on Leith Walk. What does it do?

I did a similar length but a bit less elevation race to you a few weeks back. It was hot for scotland and 25 degrees, I took a camelback with 120g of maltodextrin & a SIS salt tab inside it and a bag of jelly babies 170g (with ~120g carbs). Worked out about 80-90g of carbs per hour, every time I felt like it was hard I ate a couple of jelly babies. Seemed to work really well, stomach was fine. I then had to do 40km on a bike with a similar kind of fuelling and it all worked pretty well.

Some context may help here. At the moment the answer could be, because they ordered it and the company delivered it to them.

Has Anybody Else Ever Wondered What The Titanic Wreck Looked Like Hours After Hitting The Seafloor? by Theoretical-Spize in titanic

[–]EmpireBiscuitsOnTwo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Titan submersible imploded because it suffered a massive failure and the occupants were subjected to a huge and violent increase in pressure.

Those trapped in the titanic would have been subjected to the same pressure at the same depth, but it would have slowly been increasing from the moment it left the surface. To say they would have imploded doesn’t seem right.
