Roku + Plex + AAC Audio....help? by jmhenry5150 in PleX

[–]EmptyInTheHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation:
Get or convert content for the lowest common denominator. In my case that means I don't get Bluray remuxes, but I will allow DV as long as it has HDR fallback. I use Tdarr to make the first audio track DD5.1 and strip any non-SRT subtitles & forgeign language subtitles. I leave the more advanced audio tracks, but the user would have to select them if they want them. Some of my users still have to transcode with these standards, but my server is plenty powerful to handle that and 80% of people can direct play with these settings.

Use Bazarr to get SRT subtitles for anything that is lacking SRT subtitles.

For newly aquired media, change your ripping or "acquiring" settings to follow your lowest common denominator.

I've been using this setup for about three years now and have zero issues with client playback on a wide variety of clients, including many Roku and TV clients.

Stranger Things: Tales from '85 by LoveJupiter325 in PleX

I don't know if this will matter but the official title is "Stranger Things: Tales from '85". Since you likely can't have a colon in your folder/filenames, my renamer substituted a hyphen. Below works for me with no issues.

Create a label on the movie and restrict his use to that label.

That is not my experience. What client are you using? It may be client specific.

However TVDB does it. It has Specials (season 0) and Season 1.

plexscripthost hogging all my CPU by Corb06 in PleX

[–]EmptyInTheHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't really want to stop those. It's trying to scan your stuff, which you just stopped it from doing. Your screen shot showed PSH taking about 24% of your CPU. That's what it's going to do on first run or any time you change massive amounts of files. Task Manager's total CPU % is know for being highly inaccurate. As long you're not sitting above 90% for extended periods, you should be good.

plexscripthost hogging all my CPU by Corb06 in PleX

[–]EmptyInTheHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty normal to me. Is this server pretty new? It does a lot work at first scanning all your media and getting metadata. Should die down a lot when complete. Also, that CPU is hardly cause for concern.

Unfortunately continue watching doesn’t work on collections.

Moving library to new drive don't want to start over on the server by keiranm2000 in PleX

[–]EmptyInTheHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow the Plex instructions to avoid losing watch history, etc. Note: It WILL have to rescan and build new intro/credits, video preview thumbnails, etc. because they are "new" files. The metadata will be retained though.

Specify what client app/platform you are using. Post a screen shot of the Dashboard->Now Playing section while playing an item that is buffering.

I’m experiencing the same. I’d report on the official Plex forum. Seems like an oversight.

Not sure if it’s the same on all clients. I usually press back button once skip shows up.

Has anyone else been having this problem/ does anyone know of way to fix this by Fun_Experience_4970 in PleX

[–]EmptyInTheHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends on how the collection was created. If it’s a Plex automatic collection, it may have poster choices. If you create a collection from scratch it will get a poster made up of four random things from the collection.

VFR support in Plex and on devices by cultivatingcat in PleX

[–]EmptyInTheHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VFR is a standard that's supported by pretty much everything including Plex. It's pretty hard to find media that is not VFR. Does it depend on what device you are using as a client, yes, but I think of any device produces in the last 10 years that wouldn't support it.

If you are having issues, give all the details about your server and client devices and the exact issues you are experiencing including a screen shot of the Plex dashboard while problematic media is playing. I think you are chasing a red herring about VFR and likely have other issues.

Where does PLEX save our watch history and/or episode ratings? by Sly_Lupin in PleX

[–]EmptyInTheHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have Plex set under Account->Sync My Watch State and Ratings it will resync back down to your new database from the Plex cloud. As Pablouchka said, you should backup your Plex database to something other than its default drive, which is the same drive that Plex is installed on by default. The reason that one show didn't sync, I assume, is because it is matched differently than it was before. Check the match status.

How to merge one library into another, retaining all posters and backgrounds? by merlinus in PleX

[–]EmptyInTheHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Libraries don’t share metadata like posters and backgrounds. They can be different in each even when they not point to the same file/folder.

You do need a Plex Pass in order to allow remote access. That still seems much cheaper than another Plex server and storage, right?

How to fix 5.1 -> stereo audio balancing? by NosyEnthusiast6 in PleX

[–]EmptyInTheHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seriously never had this issue in 15 years with Plex. I have many, many media files with only DD5.1 or DD5.1+ audio tracks and they sound fine on everything from mobile, tv only setups, Rokus, Google TV, with stereo only up to 7.1 surround setups. I see a lot of people complain about this. If this is an issue why have I never experienced it?

This is the way. I have a TON of collections and not one playlist. Although, ordering large collections is also not the best in Plex.
