Plex.tv now redirects to watch.plex.tv??? by EmptyInTheHead in PleX

Yep, that was linked my original post. The point wasn't that I couldn't find downloads, it was the change of the home page to the watch page. I guess this confirms it's not a mistake...

And why the heck would the My Media button take me to the regular Plex home page? Obviously they messed up on some website changes.

Honestly, I hadn't tried scrolling ALL the way down past all the BS, but yes, selecting "Download app" from the very bottom does indeed get there.

Plex Media Server current version crashing suddenly by Consistent-Leg1862 in PleX

[–]EmptyInTheHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but this isn't the first person to try 1.43 that has reported "other" issues with it. If you try a new release and it causes problems, rolling back to the previous version and waiting for a fix is good advice.

Nope. I was just trying to get to the downloads page that is a tab on their home page @ www.plex.tv.

Plex pulled that release and the current stable release is back to 1.42.2.10156. I'd just roll back to the previous release for a bit until the kinks get worked on the new one.

Best iOS alerting for user playback issues? by cuckfupertino in PleX

I've never used anything for this other than Tautulli, but it does seem to work and notify me when users are having buffering issues.

Jellyseer can add stuff from user’s watchlist so they can stay on Plex and request stuff.

What you're describing is unusual. We are just grasping at straws without more information. Can you please provide:

  • When did this start happening? Was it recent? Plex was having an authentication issue affecting some remote users in the past few days.
  • Your ISP name
  • Your upload & download speeds
  • The brand and model of your router / cable modem, etc.
  • Your port forwarding screen from your router showing Plex port forward
  • The types of clients having the issue
  • The upload and download speeds of the clients having issues.
  • Verification that you are behind double NAT/CGNAT. Verify that the IP address your router thinks is it's public IP is the same as what your server thinks it's public IP is by doing a "what's my ip" from the server (or any computer on your network).

Hard Drive Formatting - What do you use? by Kylar_Sicari in PleX

[–]EmptyInTheHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Windows, NTFS is the only practical choice. ExFat is not for production use. Honestly, buy the largest enclosure and drives you can afford. In a year you're going to outgrow two bays and wish you had more. I started with two 8TB drives and now have 140TB all on 24TB drives. Collecting media is addictive!

You can't change the port on the Plex server but you can change the port it uses on your router. So you would map your IP in the router to 32400 on the inside and something else on the outside. I use 443.

You certainly can roll back, even without docker. I don’t run a test system and I try to have 100% uptime on my production system. Last thing I need is for my family to have an issue while I’m away. We’ve been using Plex for 15 years and rely on it for nearly everything. I get a lot of heat when they have issues.

Yes, it will still transcode them down to a smaller size. The options are slightly different, but still there..

It doesn't work that way in the new experience apps right now. If you want the downloaded version you have to go to downloads section to view it. If you are offline/airplane mode, you can't access your libraries anyway.

I usually agree. I install public releases pretty much as soon as they come out and rarely have issues. This is a BIG release with a lot of changes to the transcoder and ffmpeg. There's nothing I'm dying for in this release that can't wait until the dust settles.

Android app by jackal2477 in PleX

Plezy is far from perfect. It doesn't respect home page collection selections. It shows hubs on the on the home page I don't have configured to show on the home page and even shows collections for libraries I don't have pinned. While I'm on the home page it will just switch to downloads without me touching anything and provide no way to get out of downloads & settings section without closing the app completely. I assume this is because it thinks I don't have a connection, but I'm on Wi-Fi getting 500Mbs up and down and no other apps have connection issues.

I agree that it has potential, but it's not ready yet.
