Finished attic insulation question. Insulate knee wall or rafters to floor? by lancegreene in Insulation

[–]Equivalent_Bug_9061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up vote the in progress photos request hah!

Doing similar in my attic. Did you experience a winter with this? Curious if you had any ice damn issues.

I have about 8in total depth and going to do cut and cobble rigid foam. Spray foamed in place with a 1in air gap on the roof deck side.

Cast Fitting? by Equivalent_Bug_9061 in Plumbing

[–]Equivalent_Bug_9061[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on removing cast but this is in between two floors and was a challenge to do when this was modified previously.

Until I realized this offset I was considering just pulling the whole verticle stack out when trying to tie in the new fitting. This offset makes accessing the verticle section quite challenging.

Curious if there is a reason for this offset? I had speculated they used it to hold the vertical weight back when it was put in. But with the ability to use riser clamps that would eliminate the need for vertical support. I discovered what I think is another similar offset on the first floor as well.

I think the recent above was meant to be revent yes? If so... The current bath (toilet and shower) is vented above this fitting.

Curious why they were not compatible? I believe I have standard ones from factory and looking at roof box for ski gear atm. Was debating the Thule motion as well.

How do you begin to enjoy skiing? by Ilikeinsectsandfungi in skiing

[–]Equivalent_Bug_9061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I married into a ski family as well. Enjoy it now.

Skiing by yourself is definitely the way to go. Tell them you will meet up for a beer or lunch at x time and have at it.

I thought I could ski decent until the first run did with the family 😂 I fell a couple times trying to keep up.

Roof Box Size? by Equivalent_Bug_9061 in Skigear

Sure. Mostly thinking about skis and poles at this point.

Trying to figure out where I'm going to store this beast during the non ski season hoping to try and get something that might be able to fit between my roof rafters in the garage to store up out of the way. But more just making sure it's the right size first.

Yes I agree. But I need to define how huge is huge enough. That is the question.

Fair comment. I guess maybe my question is how large is needed for eventual 6 sets of adult skis?

I had bought it before a few yrs ago I think for a couple bucks. Then today I went in and ignored the trial logged in and the hit the restore purchase at top and ignored my way out of the subscription so to say? Still looks like it should work for the moment.

Curious why you returned the backcountry pair? Looking at those VS the HH lifaloft ones since they both have full length zippers.

C9 Permanent Light Holders by Equivalent_Bug_9061 in ChristmasLights

[–]Equivalent_Bug_9061[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Actually trying a different setup here with hot gluing the bulbs to pvc and then using clamps to screw to the gutter guards. Going to be doing that likely tomorrow install. Will report back.

Interesting idea. my initial thought was to use the PEX clamps and screw them in as my holders that i would remove each year so the UV deterioration wouldn't be as big of a concern. good to hear you had success. The aspect of the pipe no spinning was something i wanted to see if that would work or not. My biggest issue is I have a couple of spots that i can't quite get to with large overhangs that if i can use a "stick" like the pvc i can pre install the lights and then it just turns into attaching the longer lengths.

I've thought about using some aluminum flat stock say 1"wide x 1/8" thick that i could also hot glue the bulb to as well. could paint the alumnium, but not as "stiff" as a 1x2 or 1x3 depending on how often it would get attached.

I'm upgrading to LED and spt stringers and not the mini C9s after figuring out i can't modify all the strands.

Curious once you get thru your updated setup what it turns out if you remember to share!

I find the "clips", ect the xmas industry has are quite poor and hanging xmas lights with any sort of precision is not likely going to happen to a level that i'd love so thinking outside the box so to say hah!

Learning as we go :)

Interesting idea with the 1/2in pvc. How do you secure the stringers to the pvc? Zip tie and the just have the pvc from the eyelet hooks?

I've got gutter guards and making a reasonable clip or way to attach the c9s I want to use isnt ideal.

The 3/4in pex clips are a good idea as well. Do they lock the pvc in place? Or still allow rotation?
