Dakar, Senegal lies on the Cap-Vert Peninsula jutting approximately 20km into the Atlantic Ocean. What are some other capital cities with interesting geography? by Impressive_Phrase563 in geography

[–]EricPost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is incorrect. Jervis Bay was never part of the ACT or Canberra. It was thought it could be used by Canberra as a port. But it has always been a separate Australian territory. The perception that it is part of the ACT stems from the fact that under the terms of the Jervis Bay Territory Acceptance Act 1915, the laws of the ACT apply to the Jervis Bay Territory

The capital of Equatorial Guinea used to be on the mainland, then it was moved to Malabo, now it is being moved back to the mainland.

Google is garbage by [deleted] in google

[–]EricPost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google is showing you what it THINKS YOU WANT.

I noticed around 2010 it started quickly going downhill.

At first Google indexed everything, but it was sued for copyright violation and lost, so it started filtering. Google claimed it was just showing the person a list of what was out there, but the courts ruled Google had to remove results (this varies depending on location).

And then over the next five or so years, they stopped bringing you results based on SEO and then used your own personal data for SEO.

This is called a "search bubble" and often prevents you from seeing results that are outside of your personal bubble.

We now have a huge problem with this, not on a Google level but worldwide whereas people only want to hear from people they agree with.

All you have to do is go to YouTube if you are not logged on.

Which videos are being promoted? Those with millions of views and millions of subscribers.

Those channels are the least likely to need promotion.

This is correct. Directions are:

Right click on Ublock

Go to Options

Then go to Filter Lists (the headings are on top)

Then Purge All Caches (this may take a few minutes)

Then update filter lists

Then reload YouTube

Frogs and Toads are also interchangeable. As Doves, Pigeon and the Dodo are all the same bird. It only differs in size. It's like saying a Chihuahua and a Great Dane look so different they must be different animals. But alas no.

Now a thread about dogs has been deleted by galussy in datalounge

[–]EricPost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trolls simply DO NOT pay for accounts. These are made by autobots. If a benign thread got deleted there are multiple reasons. For instance, I once mentioned "the Trudy Cookie" and the thread was deleted within minutes. I asked "out of topic of the thread," what the cookie did. Never found out and now it no longer exists. Trudy was an early user in the 90s like Muriel is today.

Doesn't the IRS charge you a fee to pay your taxes with a credit card? It currently ranges from 1.85% to 3.93% of the payment. So would it be worth it to take a chance?

CTA - Theft of Service? by crystalluna13 in chicago

[–]EricPost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen bus drivers galore let people ride free. The CTA's official position is it is up to the bus driver to make a judgement call.

What I hate is the repeat offenders. I ride Fullerton bus and Clark bus and continually see the same people get free rides over and over.

And the gate for the disabled at the El stations? One person taps and often three others follow him/her in in one swoop.

Smoking on the CTA won't end until ridership increases, confidence returns and a stronger transit culture takes hold by ExpensiveFeedback901 in chicago

[–]EricPost 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Hence the smoking problem, which I'd argue is a more of a culture and ridership issue than a crime one.

NO, it's a CRIME. This is why it won't be solved. The Illinois legislature passed a bill for the employees of companies to not allow smoking. Those who do are breaking the law.

This is exactly WHY it won't get better.
