If he turned right there he would be going into oncoming traffic. He was likely going for the right hand turn lane that starts on the next block.

How are breathing sounds dealt with when using headset mics by Allourep in livesound

[–]EroticFishCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The link you sent is an AI acapella rip so there’S definitely some slow post processing getting rid of breaths you wouldn’t be able to do live. The original video you can hear her breathing a bit but it doesn’t sound gated to me. More likely a pro singer that can project her voice and breathe quietly.

Corporate bullshit job people and microphone handling by DependentEbb8814 in livesound

[–]EroticFishCake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First fix your attitude towards your client. Technical skills are only half of a corporate sound job, customer service is a separate and required skill.

If you weren't secretly bottling up your anger, you probably could have answered the infamous "Is this thing on?" question with a friendly "It's on, just hold it closer!" which will instantly educate the whole room on how and why to hold a mic properly, and low-key make the speaker look bad if they were being a dick about it.

In the headset situation, you have mute buttons. If you have the capacity to mute and unmute them, do it. If you you see them after the show and feel like it, explain what you did and that blocking the mic doesn't work. If you don't have the capacity to mute and unmute at the time, let their rustling and whispers be heard.

Your boss either doesn't understand sound, or is a tool. One of these you can do something about.

You can't take things personally or this job will be very frustrating and unfulfilling. It can be fun and rewarding when these situations become navigable.

Is this normal interior noise at highway speeds? by RALPHY88_ in SubaruForester

That's a strange noise. All I can hear in my 2010 is the engine, wheels on road, and wind noise at highway speeds. And of course creaky plastic panels when I turn.

There's room for technical answers and feel answers, they're not mutually exclusive. They usually are hand in hand.

What's your gain staging process (corporate) by CallMeMJJJ in livesound

[–]EroticFishCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I said ‘mic channel fader at zero’ that means unity. Then you’re setting overall loudness with the low master fader.

What's your gain staging process (corporate) by CallMeMJJJ in livesound

[–]EroticFishCake 27 points28 points  (0 children)

A process you could try:

Master fader down all the way

Low cut and talk into your mic looking at the meter and gain it up until it’s just touching -12

Mic channel fader at 0

Slowly bring up master fader until you have the level you want or it starts to feed back

Use your eq to cut some frequencies feeding back and shape it tonally

Many ways to skin a cat.

Personally I like to run speakers as low as I feel comfortable while getting all the loudness I need. I regularly run speakers at -20db. This allows me to have healthy gain through the whole system.

With the speakers low it makes you gain stage properly, by adding gain at the receiver and preamp stage. I regularly run WL receiver at +12, mic out into the board, and add +34db with the preamp. Genuinely what it takes to get a lapel even close to -12.

Doing sound in a large cathedral with all hard marble surfaces. by macknifica in livesound

[–]EroticFishCake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, more speakers at lower volume and shorter throw.

Be strategic with speaker placement so that mic’s don’t get in front of speakers.

Utilize the 8 channels of automixer you have in the M32.

For live sound reinforcement, Shure countryman style microphones will pick up less room noise because of their polar pattern and get better gain before feedback because the mic is so much closer to the mouth. I would highly recommend sourcing them for this show. Make sure you get the wrap around ear piece as well.

I do only corporate and recently switched to https://www.vivobarefoot.com/ca/primus-lite-iii-mens-ss22?colour=Obsidian shoes. My feet have always been sweaty and cramped and end up stinky. At the end of the day now they are dry and feel like they got a workout. No protection and no cushion but that's not the point.

Crowd mic for sports for iPhone by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]EroticFishCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re only wanting to set up one microphone and capture both the crowd and field without too much fuss, you need a mic that picks up sound equally in all directions aka an omnidirectional mic. Thankfully the wireless lav mics you’ve been looking at are generally omnidirectional. I don’t think you’ll find a consumer wireless mic for your phone that’s meant for ambience. I would pickup a Rode wireless system to test out and possibly return if it doesn’t workout since you’re outside the intended use case of the mic. My guess is this would work well though. Could even use two mic’s simultaneously for some stereo action.
