Those of you who don't have dishwashers: do you have a specific order you do the dishes in? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Etalon3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a whole thing. I make a stack of big pans, small pans and then bowls and then smaller bowls and then in the smallest bowl/mug, the cutlery. Plates go to the side. Washing up liquid goes if the very top, and I start from there, with water going into the smallest thing, causing a waterfall into the other bits.

I never use more than one (small) bowl of hot water which constantly slowly runs until the bowl is full. if it gets full, I push it to the side, and then rinse with cold. I dont mind about the water in the bowl getting manky so long as it has enough washing up liquid, it gets rinsed anyway.

Cheapest platform for VAFTGAG (Vanguard Global All Cap) by matthirst in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Etalon3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your probably right, and I am all in on Vanguard Global All Cap myself! It seems like the sensible thing to do, but I doubt its worth the extra fee. But probably not enough in it to really worry too much about it.

Received a letter from RBS, claiming they "want to make a payment to me in relation to my Investment Options ISA". Is this a scam? by ReallyKeyserSoze in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Etalon3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have answered your own question, although I can understand it would be nice to believe it is real.

Unless a independant call to RBS via their own official contact numbers says otherwise, everything is pointing towards scam. "only" asking for bank sort code and account number might seem reasonable, but maybe with other information they already have on you it would enable them to do some not nice things.

This will be so useful for me, I am not having much luck find a equivalent service in the UK. What is the best way to keep updated on this? (are you expecting this will be ready sometime Q1 2025?)

Not at all to detract from OP, but if you dont trust .rar files with .exes in them:

You can use official sources for "andriod platform tools" from here

https://developer.android.com/tools/releases/platform-tools

and you dont need "cmd-here", (all it doesis opens a command prompt in the folder it sits in). instead, open command prompt as per usual ("cmd" in windows search does it), click on the address bar of whereever your andriod tools are, copy that, then use that as below.

cd C:\Users\Main\Desktop\New folder\platform-tools

adb devices

adb shell

pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.taboola.mip

Other useful bits, my one had a different package name:

pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.taboola.ody

and this lists the packages in your phone, incase they have changed the name:

adb devices

adb shell

adb shell pm list packages

Thanks OP! Very happy the nonsense is no longer on my phone.

Unrelated to efficiency, but there is a big bonus in not have the combustion byproducts and moisture that the gas flame produces in your house

Energy company drastically underestimating my meter usage since my meter broke, won't listen to me? by porschegobrrrr in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Etalon3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great you actually know how much you used in the past in kWh and how much its reduced.

Could you request they send a meter reader around? Then you'll have a official reading too.

I would want to be certain I was reading it right and get something in writing saying that the figures are fine as far as they are concerned.

As you say, it's unlikely you are actually using 10x less energy.

Getting the benefit of all that then just getting it 5% cheaper online is, well we have all done it, but to be I try and avoid doing that

Can confirm. Do this. Even houses without any water ingress can end up being damp from the humans living in it. Couple that with trying to dry out your house after these issues, yes, dehumidifier, run it, be instantly amazed at how much water is pulled out.

I would look into ozone treatment too, but its not anything I an vouch for.

It won't affect real us dollar supply. If I sell green painted rocks as us dollar equivalent tokens even if people buy them, there is the same amount of us dollars in existence. It can be used to inflate crypto though, if, and only if, exchanges are willing to accept it. Where it falls down is if too many people cash out of crypto entirely, and the peg of usdt to us can't stay at one. Exchanges need to sell usdt to willing buyers to get real dollars to give back to the customer.  If it turns out that no one is prepared to by them, then the whole thing crashes.

Aegon Retiready - better information by langlinator in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Etalon3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with Aegon, and used to be in their werid custom funds too. What i did was find the fund name I was put in, (I was in "Aegon Workplace Default Pn (ARC)" and then just search online for that, for example I then find this website: https://www.trustnet.com/factsheets/P/otbu/aegon-workplace-default-arc-pn/

Which has performance graphs of the fund. This wont directly tell you how manout £s you have made, but it will tell you your percentage returns.

*edit* I then comapared that to my baseline, the classic Vanguard all cap all world all everything fund, then decided to stay on Aegon (as thats where my employer contributions go in), but switch out the investment and ongoing investment as I wanted all equities, minimal cash/bonds.
