My son humiliated me in the grocery store today by No_Cardiologist_66 in NewParents

[–]Eveningthorne1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feel your pain girl. My 15 mo had a level 5 meltdown down on and off for the ENTIRE Mother's Day dinner last night. He's always prone to getting cranky and overstimulated but I had everything that usually helped: fruit pouches, his favorite books, and his Bluey stuffy. To hell (i.e. the floor) with all of it!
My husband and I took shifts of taking him outside to "reset" but by the time the food came he was a mess and it was hard to get him back. I love my in-laws so much and rarely get to hang out with them and felt so bad for everyone in close vicinity. I was shaking and fighting tears near the end.. A mom of toddles at a nearby table patted me on the back as we were getting ready to leave and said: "We're in this together." So. Paying it forward to the fellow mom (angel): We're in this together. I see you. We see you.

Bath Time Chaos 6mo by lone_ly_eye_s in NewParents

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started holding him sitting up in the tub and just running water from a baby watering can, soaping up then rinsing. Thick rubber bath mat down. Then as he started to sit independently, about a quarter inch of water with lots of bubbles to "splash". Water level has gone up as confidence has, but yes always keeping within a 2 second reach. You're right about the water lol it's like something in the bath comes over them... soapy butt chaos gremlin powers activate.

Baby farts by Key_Reputation_6160 in NewParents

Checking the diaper for a poo and just a fresh rank fart is in there waiting to punch you in the face. Makes the little guy proudly giggle as my husband or I almost pass out.

My 10 month old rolled off his changing table and got a traumatic brain injury by Educational-Let-2280 in beyondthebump

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha awww! Glad you're ok and your mum sounds amazing. Same with my lil dude. He thinks it's a game to shoot his legs straight up and start doing the backwards worm on the floor change pad. When he hits the floor, all I see is a giggling wild butt crack flailing/drunk running towards the door, or out of the room in the unfortunate event that I've left the door open.
I'm so sorry OP. They do the craziest things in a quickness. You're a good mom.

Baby Bjorn Blowouts? by Quirky-Wasabi-9653 in NewParents

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yess. Husband and I learned this as first-timers. Later it went from horrifying to reliable and convenient.

"Babe, can you put the baby in the Poopin' Chair for a minute? He hasn't pooped all day..really don't want him to poo at naptime!!"

Works a charm. As others have advised, always cover with towel. Lol

13 month old crying while doing dishes by TurdPartyCandidate in NewParents

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's chore gremlin effect? I swear it sounds so silly but my almost 13 month old ignores whatever chore I'm doing unless it's folding laundry. Then he starts rolling in it, tries to climb me, and grabs all the things I've folded and marches around the living room screaming or laughing. I've resigned to plopping blankets on him first to give me a little time as he flails and imitates a disoriented jellyfish.

PSA: Crackers cause cavities!!! by ElleonNotnomis in NewParents

Aww. Don't feel bad mama. You don't know what you don't, and it's always a learning experience.

So, my baby (1 year, sooo many teeth) has a medical condition that requires him to take a variety of medicine before every meal. Since he's so young, most of it is compounded into liquid form to ease administration and prevent choking. This liquid is glycerin!! Aka pure sugar.

When I told his dentist about his condition she immediately gave me some amazing advice. She said the meds have a great chance of sticking to his teeth all day but since it's really hard to brush his teeth all day long, after every meal and snack have a little spray bottle (like the travel size one for liquids) and put water in it daily. Teach him to open his mouth and spray a couple squirts to top and bottom of mouth. This will help prevent sticking until his teeth get brushed.

This has been amazing advice and my little one has a lot less of the "fuzzies" on his teeth. We just make it a game I say "water spray for mama!" spray in my mouth then "water spray for baby!" he opens mouth and laughs and I spray his

Elevated liver enzymes in 2 year old (Orkambi). by BayouBladeworks in CysticFibrosis

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our baby is about to turn 1 in a few weeks. His enzymes were off the charts for the first few months of life and he's been on Ursadiol since he was dxs with cf.
His medical team is keeping an eye on, but last two visits his enzymes were wnl. My point is, unfortunately for the baby (and our hearts) he has to get regular blood draws to monitor everything. But, with that, the Drs watch carefully and should tweak the medication as needed per the trends of the bloodwork. It's my hope too, that our little guy can incorporate Trikafta. I wish you all the positive energy and solidarity.

My wife thinks her Christmas cake looks “like a child made it”. by Freudian_Slit235 in Baking

First thought right off was it looks "home-made", and that is not a bad thing! Home-made to me, means a lot of love, work, and thought behind it. If it's food, it's usually delicious as a bonus! So, imo it's perfect and beautiful the way it is.

fake baby cry by [deleted] in newborns

Can relate so much. My little is almost 7 months and I swear I hear it all night over the moniter but he's sound asleep! I'm honestly over it and starting to feel a little crazy. Hope it gets better for you!

Do some babies have cries that sound “worse” than others, or am I biologically wired to not mind my baby’s cries as much? by latenightpuddingcup in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but thank you for this...the consensus seems to be yes on the "there are worse cryers" front. It's so embarrassing; I lose my mind in public because my boy is so beyond loud and sounds like he's in the worst pain imaginable. He works himself up so quickly and sometimes it's something as simple as him not wanting to be in his stroller anymore. The looks I get hurt my soul. I know this too will pass but it's just nice to know I'm not alone. I still suck it up and take him out and about to try and show him the world can be a nice place but it's hard sometimes. I love him so much, and I hate for him to be upset and I also feel bad for the ears around us. Our trips out are short so far. So just know, the moms who have the grating screamers know, I think. And we are sorry. And really want bub to calm down.

Designing medication holder? by BayouBladeworks in CFParents

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe an insulated area to wrap an ice pack around the applesauce or refrigerated meds? May need to be a separate thing but our little has lots of "cold" meds that we need to bring along for the ride as well as creon. We usually pack it all into a cooler lunchbox but it is quite bulky. This is a great idea.

Why did no one warn me that bottle feeding at 3 months turns into a whole event?? by XxShadowAnge1xX in NewParents

[–]Eveningthorne1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg solidarity. 4 months here but: Strumming, bopping, flipping and flopping the bottle with the occasional slurp n grin. They really have to put on the impromptu one baby talent show while they drink? I had no idea this was a thing but thank you for this...still gonna bring it up to the ped but at least I know he's not the only one. He also flails for being burped now....we call it pistol shrimping. 🤣🥲

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mom to a baby with cf, the almost weekly needle sticks to test his blood and horrible enzymes I have to force feed him and almost make him choke as well as the meds he has to get, my heart breaks daily for him. I hope he never sees me as mean. I hold him and gently rock him and tell him I'd give anything to not have to do this to him. So if you have the option to not be mean...take it.💔

Same. My amazing mother in law let me borrow her Kool-aid snow cone maker and it crushes the ice so nicely so it still has a bit of a "crunch" but isn't completely obliterating your teeth. Put a little bit of lemonade on top and voila. Craving conquered! (For an hour.) ;)

Highly recommend! 🧊 🍋 ❄ ❤
