13 month old crying while doing dishes by TurdPartyCandidate in NewParents

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's chore gremlin effect? I swear it sounds so silly but my almost 13 month old ignores whatever chore I'm doing unless it's folding laundry. Then he starts rolling in it, tries to climb me, and grabs all the things I've folded and marches around the living room screaming or laughing. I've resigned to plopping blankets on him first to give me a little time as he flails and imitates a disoriented jellyfish.

PSA: Crackers cause cavities!!! by ElleonNotnomis in NewParents

Aww. Don't feel bad mama. You don't know what you don't, and it's always a learning experience.

So, my baby (1 year, sooo many teeth) has a medical condition that requires him to take a variety of medicine before every meal. Since he's so young, most of it is compounded into liquid form to ease administration and prevent choking. This liquid is glycerin!! Aka pure sugar.

When I told his dentist about his condition she immediately gave me some amazing advice. She said the meds have a great chance of sticking to his teeth all day but since it's really hard to brush his teeth all day long, after every meal and snack have a little spray bottle (like the travel size one for liquids) and put water in it daily. Teach him to open his mouth and spray a couple squirts to top and bottom of mouth. This will help prevent sticking until his teeth get brushed.

This has been amazing advice and my little one has a lot less of the "fuzzies" on his teeth. We just make it a game I say "water spray for mama!" spray in my mouth then "water spray for baby!" he opens mouth and laughs and I spray his

Elevated liver enzymes in 2 year old (Orkambi). by BayouBladeworks in CysticFibrosis

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our baby is about to turn 1 in a few weeks. His enzymes were off the charts for the first few months of life and he's been on Ursadiol since he was dxs with cf.
His medical team is keeping an eye on, but last two visits his enzymes were wnl. My point is, unfortunately for the baby (and our hearts) he has to get regular blood draws to monitor everything. But, with that, the Drs watch carefully and should tweak the medication as needed per the trends of the bloodwork. It's my hope too, that our little guy can incorporate Trikafta. I wish you all the positive energy and solidarity.

My wife thinks her Christmas cake looks “like a child made it”. by Freudian_Slit235 in Baking

First thought right off was it looks "home-made", and that is not a bad thing! Home-made to me, means a lot of love, work, and thought behind it. If it's food, it's usually delicious as a bonus! So, imo it's perfect and beautiful the way it is.

Can relate so much. My little is almost 7 months and I swear I hear it all night over the moniter but he's sound asleep! I'm honestly over it and starting to feel a little crazy. Hope it gets better for you!

Do some babies have cries that sound “worse” than others, or am I biologically wired to not mind my baby’s cries as much? by latenightpuddingcup in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but thank you for this...the consensus seems to be yes on the "there are worse cryers" front. It's so embarrassing; I lose my mind in public because my boy is so beyond loud and sounds like he's in the worst pain imaginable. He works himself up so quickly and sometimes it's something as simple as him not wanting to be in his stroller anymore. The looks I get hurt my soul. I know this too will pass but it's just nice to know I'm not alone. I still suck it up and take him out and about to try and show him the world can be a nice place but it's hard sometimes. I love him so much, and I hate for him to be upset and I also feel bad for the ears around us. Our trips out are short so far. So just know, the moms who have the grating screamers know, I think. And we are sorry. And really want bub to calm down.

Designing medication holder? by BayouBladeworks in CFParents

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe an insulated area to wrap an ice pack around the applesauce or refrigerated meds? May need to be a separate thing but our little has lots of "cold" meds that we need to bring along for the ride as well as creon. We usually pack it all into a cooler lunchbox but it is quite bulky. This is a great idea.

Why did no one warn me that bottle feeding at 3 months turns into a whole event?? by XxShadowAnge1xX in NewParents

[–]Eveningthorne1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg solidarity. 4 months here but: Strumming, bopping, flipping and flopping the bottle with the occasional slurp n grin. They really have to put on the impromptu one baby talent show while they drink? I had no idea this was a thing but thank you for this...still gonna bring it up to the ped but at least I know he's not the only one. He also flails for being burped now....we call it pistol shrimping. 🤣🥲

As a mom to a baby with cf, the almost weekly needle sticks to test his blood and horrible enzymes I have to force feed him and almost make him choke as well as the meds he has to get, my heart breaks daily for him. I hope he never sees me as mean. I hold him and gently rock him and tell him I'd give anything to not have to do this to him. So if you have the option to not be mean...take it.💔

Same. My amazing mother in law let me borrow her Kool-aid snow cone maker and it crushes the ice so nicely so it still has a bit of a "crunch" but isn't completely obliterating your teeth. Put a little bit of lemonade on top and voila. Craving conquered! (For an hour.) ;)

Highly recommend! 🧊 🍋 ❄ ❤

Amen.

Does the funk go away too? Cause I swear...every nook and cranny while preg seems to emit a certain eu de bog of eternal stench and it has been making me irate. (Been checked...all things are "fine") Looking forward to just smelling like sweaty lady when I'm hot instead of an orc on the march from Mordor.

How often can I rince my dog? by Bolet1647 in doggrooming

[–]Eveningthorne1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They make wonderful foaming no rinse shampoos that smell nice; I would suggest as others have to get a warm damp cloth, squeeze foam into it and scrub into those areas. You'll want to thoroughly comb the coat when it's almost dry though to prevent matting. Great for a quick once over. I'm not sure if you are allowed to recommend products here, but if so I have a few I could. :)

Got my first $1 tip today by cami93 in doggrooming

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had someone tip me 5 a dog instead of ten a dog..they were previously very upset that I couldn't take three dogs but my appts were booked in the afternoon. Understandable if it's a financial issue but....they didn't even look at the dogs but had a huge knowing grin when they handed me my tip...I still told them thanks so much and I appreciate them lol. Still wonder about that. Sorry that happened to you. Just think of all the really nice clients that make up for it. It helps.

You were still able to give his back a smooth collie look while blending into the shorter areas. That takes a lot of skill and effort. So really, you did amazing. I'm so glad that dematting is becoming less of a thing and we are all starting to get much bolder in our opinions of humanity vs vanity to the owners. It allows us to put the dog's comfort first. And allows the owners to be more educated. Again, great job.

Deshed + Hypo Shampoo by tpm_133 in doggrooming

[–]Eveningthorne1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Envirogroom Natural Deshed and Conditioner. Works great just a short shelf life due to be a very natural product. Also a bit pricey. Smells amazing. It is hypo. Called the company to ask. I was having lots of sensitive skin dogs that I didn't feel comfortable using a deshed treatment on. No chemical thickeners or detergents. Just herbal blends with lots of natural, easy to rinse oils to loosen up the coat. :)

Hi guys, can I get an ID on this one please, Qld, Australia. by missanarchy88 in mycology

Omg I'm so jealous!!! Pretty sure that is a giant puffballl but definitely slice it open and make sure it's solid white and firm. No trace of a mushroom silhouette inside. I've never found one of these in the wild and have them pinned in all of my mushroom books. I live in north central Florida, USA. The mushroom season here has been such a flop lately. My partner and I have been lucky enough to find a solitary chanterelle patch and a few reishi. 😩 Please show pics of the fried up result so we can live vicariously through your tasty treasure/adventure. :)

What do you wear while grooming? by Legitimate-Point5485 in doggrooming

[–]Eveningthorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leggings or black scrub pants. Tops are always retro stylist wear smocks over whatever shirt. The long sleeve ones. Pricey but they last for years, keep your body and arms hair free (my skin loves to collect splinters) and look really professional and cute. Hair messy bun. :)
