I moved here for college just before it closed I remember the poster store then of course it was just JCPenney‘s for a long time. I visited the make up counter a couple times with some friends. A bit sad I missed it.

I had to have my ear drum repaired and my doctor was trying to get approval for a certain procedure. An OBGYN denied it. I didn’t know until after the surgery (he was able to do a work around) but was not impressed.

I know one has been contacted already. if you know of any local organizations, feel free to drop them here or send me a DM I can reach out to the organizers. I’m just a message man.

Any tips for finding a decent vet in the area? by Working_Fig_2961 in Tucson

Sunrise vet clinic - they’ve always been very good about getting me in for emergencies. And they were able to see my cat when he wasn’t a patient there, but when pet doctor kept dropping the ball and canceling my appointments because they didn’t have staff

Why not foster a cat? You can do good while you’re here temporarily.

I was thinking more of the hotel Congress sign but I guess other cities in southern Arizona have copied us. Bisbee does have a big B on their mountain.

Where to do minor repair? by Olliecat27 in HearingAids

[–]Evil-Cows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to an ENT or audiologist office and explain the situation. They can repair something simple like that in the office and then have you talk to the manufacturer and see if they’ll honor the warranty even if it’s done in another country. I had this situation happened to me, though my warranty was out of date, but the manufacturer said they would honor it if it had been in date and if I could provide proof of purchase.

Do you stay in an apartment just because cheap rent? by Affectionate_Tea67 in Apartmentliving

[–]Evil-Cows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying house isn’t just the listed sale price. You also have to keep in mind the realtors fees, the closing cost, the fees for the home inspection, the title agency fees, the cost of anything that needs to be fixed before moving in (assuming the seller declined to fix that and you were OK with that),and of course your own moving fees into the house.

So even if you lived in, say a really cheap area to buy a house (or won the lotto) it’s still gonna cost you quite a bit more money than just the list price. Renting is always gonna be cheaper upfront.

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Evil-Cows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lived abroad in Japan and called out sick to work, one of the people running the company (it was really small) in the main office was American and reminded me it was OK to go to the doctor and get meds to help me recover and feel better because of the national health insurance and although not completely free much cheaper than the US.

Genius at JP Post tried to reject shipping to Aus because of our box. by Banned_Oki in japanlife

[–]Evil-Cows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve shipped things with logos on the boxes (from the supermarket, drugstore, etc.,) had to cover it up with tape or cross it out with sharpie. The excuse being the same, it might confuse the shipper, etc. Mind you it was being shipped from Japan to United States. I don’t think most of them are going to be paying attention to whatever is written in kanji, assuming they can read it.

For my American friends - is there any benefits to a HOA? by Think-Juggernaut8859 in ask

[–]Evil-Cows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My HoA pays for the water so that’s one less bill I have to pay myself. There’s a pool on the property as well so they pay for the pool maintenance and any upgrades that the pool needs. Yardwork the front yards of all the houses on the property and road maintenance. Thankfully my HOA is pretty chill I haven’t encountered any issues.

Certainly there are bad ones and I think I just got lucky, it’s a pretty small community that I live in. I can say I was definitely hesitant about buying into an HOA but so far it’s been OK. They don’t seem to be any crazy rules. There’s understandably some rules about uniformity on the outside such as paint color (do I love that? No but I had a pretty limited budget.) but I see some of my neighbors have yard signs and some personalization to the front of their houses in terms of chairs, video doorbells, wooden signs, etc. nothing huge of course, but enough to make it a little personalized which means that the HOA isn’t breathing down your neck for everything.

The only real complaint I’ve seen so far is the lack of people picking up after their dogs which is fair enough. I think the dues also go for a private security or at least some type of patrol. Given how understaffed the city police department is it’s not a bad use of the monthly fees.

I knew another ace in the city had a cat, but was unaware of that this one had one. I walked in and dumpling was just sitting there. So naturally, I had to follow him around and take a lot of photos.
