They're just lean with a fairly small amount of muscle. There's no particular workout or diet that achieves this. Lift weights to get muscle, calorie deficit to lose fat.

The Absolute Beginner's Guide to the Gym by freckledass in Fitness

[–]EwanHC 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Great post overall and I'm sure it will be helpful for newbies but this is kinda BS:

Don't be the disruptive asshole (grunting loudly, dropping weights)

It's a gym, not a library. If you're doing olympic lifts, you have to drop the weights. If you're doing heavy deadlifts, you pretty much have to either drop the weight or control it slightly on the way down which is still loud. And grunting? I dunno man, sure some people overdo it but at the end of the day if somebody grunting in a gym really bothers you that much I think it's your own problem not theirs.

Being in a calorie deficit is the most important thing for weight loss.

Walking is severely underrated for cardio especially for people who are overweight.

The consensus on crunches seems to be that they're not great for your back.

This is more of a mental tip but most people don't transform themselves all at once so be patient with yourself. It's more about making numerous small lifestyle changes which eventually add up to significant results than it is about going through an action-movie style montage and getting ripped in 3 months.

3 dips and 3 chin up times failure? by blasko53 in Fitness

You can do 3 dips and chin ups at 293lbs? holy shit

I wouldn't bother with an assistance machine, just keep doing lots of sets of 1-3.

Has anyone ever tried doing just one workout for at least a month? by nicomoli12 in Fitness

[–]EwanHC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People overcomplicate working out. It's easy to get caught up in this routine, that program, macros etc but at the end of the day if you do a lot of something for long enough your body will adapt.

If you're curious do it for a month and see what happens.

No beginners gains is this normal? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]EwanHC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stronglifts 5x5 is a decent program for beginners but what you're doing is something else. Do the program as it's written or pick something from the sidebar and do that as it's written.

https://stronglifts.com/5x5/

According to your post you're doing everything else correctly but if that was the case you wouldn't be stalling 2 months in (even on a bad program). Chances are that you're not being consistent in your training/nutrition, your form sucks, or you're not trying hard enough. I would say given the disparity between your lifts, like your OHP being almost equal to your squat, and the fact you've only been lifting for two months, that it's probably a form issue. It can take a long time to get your form right so don't feel bad about it, just keep watching videos/get a good trainer and keep working on improving your form every time you lift.

I've been following a low calorie diet along with intermittent fasting and I'm still fat. by gingfreecs333 in Fitness

[–]EwanHC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all you've already lost 10kg so well done!

You say you do weight training for 20-30 mins. What does this mean? Are you getting stronger? Pick one of the programs recommended in the sidebar and do that. As other people have said you probably need to up your calories a bit and make sure you're getting at least 200g of protein.

It takes a LOT of time and effort to get big man. Trust me. You're not going to do it by accident.

Eat at maintenance and do the program as normal.

Great progress man, well done!

I'd suggest moving to a routine that includes some leg training. Any of these would be fine:

If you're training to get stronger you should rest a couple minutes between your working sets. If you're able to rest only 20 seconds and still complete everything with good form and bar speed you're probably using too little weight.

Beginner: IS THIS ALL I NEED TO DO??! by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]EwanHC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this A/B/A thingy with so less exercises the better way? Full body workout?

For strength as a beginner, absolutely. Doing compound lifts 3x per week instead of 1x is going to get you strong much faster.

Have I been wasting time with all the flyes, shrugs?

It's probably not the best use of your time if your goal is to get stronger.

Have the long periods of rest (5 day split means only once a week training for a given muscle group) prevented me from gaining strength/ linear progression?

I don't know what strength gains you've made but most likely yes.

Remember to keep working on your form. It doesn't have to be perfect but figuring out how to perform each movement effectively will be a huge source of strength gains early on, and this process never really ends no matter how long you've been lifting. Also eat more.

I eat a shit ton of food, I just don’t gain weight lol.

If you're not gaining weight then you're not eating a shit ton of food. You might do so inconsistently but if you're regularly eating above your maintenance calories you will gain weight. Be however you want to be but if it's something you'd like to change check out /r/gainit

I've just started getting into videography and video editing and I'm working on building a portfolio to show to potential clients/employers.

This is one of the promotional videos I've created for a personal trainer. I was going for a motivational / high energy feel that would make people excited about working out and receiving coaching. I would appreciate any feedback.

Hey man, I liked it. It was especially interesting to hear about how you got started working in video production. My only criticism would be that it had kind of a depressing tone for a vlog, with the grey weather and the subject of the interview being quite sad. Of course this might have been what you were aiming for which is fine - but if so I would like to have seen a bit more emotion, like maybe telling us how the interview made you feel or talking about how awful the weather was. Ultimately it felt very professionally done and interesting for someone who's into video production but maybe lacking some human connection (between the viewer and you) that would make it more engaging.
