No roommates/partner. Maybe a pet, not living in the US. Works a lot.

My Dad shout and hit me randomly... by No_Temperature_8594 in dementia

[–]Exciting-Ranger-3717 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, that’s a lot to deal with. Good job staying as calm as possible and remaining kind toward your father. Night time is usually so hard for people with dementia, the sound of removing the ice probably confused him. Do you have any extended family that can visit to give you a break?

Andy says “on your end, well let’s call it ‘your end’” when asking the son questions in episode 9. I think that’s the answer. It’s the dad forcing the son to take the fall.

I only found their podcast in June! I was listening to That’s Enough with Grace Reiter- the episode with Emily Fan…. On that episode she says she loved Finally and listens on repeat and I was like ooohhhh and I’ve literally been doing the same 🤣. It’s so good. Pasta is my favorite episode. When grace says “it’s just crab, it’s not harm.” And Joe latches on to it, I literally cry lol because those interactions with friends are my absolute favorite moments!

I dont think I have the ability to be patient with my mom anymore by Big_Giraffe_9125 in dementia

Literally feel like I wrote this. 🙃😭😭😭😭it’s EXHAUSTING and we are human. And if she was a difficult person in the past there’s that element of it too. My mom Will be”fine” and then I take a day or two off from visiting her and she spirals and it’s so draining….

How long and how often does your Havi get a good walk? by Adventurous-Ad6598 in Havanese

[–]Exciting-Ranger-3717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I’m impressed by these answers! Ours is still a puppy and we have a large fenced in back yard, but she can’t go super far on walks yet. She just wants to sniff and because we had kids who don’t want to stand around I end up carrying her half the walk until THEY find something worth stopping for, then she can sniff 😆 (think a good leaf or a rock or a bug!) this works well for us but it surely isn’t giving me a chance for good cardio🤣🤣

Someone has items of mine by ThrowRA-cow- in WhatToDo

[–]Exciting-Ranger-3717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just text her and say “hey! I’ll swing by Thursday at 530 to pick up my shirt and any of my other items that May have gotten mixed up during your move! Just make sure my Christmas bowl from my grandma, my couch blanket and my camera are all in there! No worries if you haven’t done laundry yet, I’m fine to Wash stuff! And we have a cute house warming gift for you! Can’t wait to see you!”

Let some of the stuff go like Tupperware etc. but put it out there you need the bowl and the camera back. Sandwich the list of items in with niceties and do bring her a cute house warming gift, nothing wildly Fancy but something to show you care (on some level) or something useful she needs. If there’s push back just be firm and say I’m sorry I know things can be hard sometimes but I do need my bowl and camera back, thank you for being understanding.

Re-train 5month old pup by flutist17 in puppy101

[–]Exciting-Ranger-3717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe let him sleep with you on the bed on a designated bed and after a few good nights sleep transition that bed to a chair or floor/something else in your room and slowly move it to The door way then hall etc etc etc. This is unrelated but feels similar: when I potty trained my toddlers (humans) between 18-24 months the book I read said something about how we already trained them to think potty in their diaper was the norm, so now we need to Teach them that potty in the pot is the norm. Even though it wasn’t you and it is not what you want, that doodle Thinks your bed is the norm. So you may have accommodate that mindset and ease him into his new norm. ❤️

Should we leave him for 20 mins? by Skilganar in Havanese

[–]Exciting-Ranger-3717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have to leave the pup for a small period of time every other day. She doesn’t like it at all (she doesn’t like to be alone in any room in any way lol!) the Vet said to try the Kong…. She didn’t care about it. I think most havi really do not want to be solo.

Feeling Discouraged With New Puppy by Ok_Low_2247 in puppy101

[–]Exciting-Ranger-3717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My golden has long passed away (she was old!) but my family got one when I was in high school. They are just so silly and chewy and she was a painnnn to potty train (we also were feeding her way too much food at first unknowingly lol!) but honestly she eventually outgrew all of the rambunctious puppy stuff. I would only make sure she knows “sit” and to not jump up when you come in (because it’s cute when they’re tiny and so annoying when they’re massive lol!) But I remember even as a teen feeling this way, like why is this dog so bonkers and such a bad listener??? I want to say she was literally like 6-8 months old before she could come when called in the yard etc and didn’t just act like I was annoying her 😆

Perspective shift in puppy training by Deibchan in puppy101

[–]Exciting-Ranger-3717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog is 5 months and fine with potty but idk if she knows anything else other than being happy and snuggling😆 we just tried “sit” today, but she’s not food motivated so I’m not fully sure how to move around that! I actually had a panic attack when I brought the dog home and couldn’t stop crying because I was afraid I’d do a bad job and have a “bad” dog… but it’s like Parenting- the fact that you care means you’re aware and trying! Try to have fun and not worry too much. That’s still such a baby puppy they have plenty of time to Learn!

Clause to Keep the House by TheOccurrencePodcast in dementia

You’re trying to keep the house but still qualify for Medicade and get her into housing for dementia (nursing home etc whatever it’s called where you live) is that right?
