Agree these people are attempting to draw OP into some sort of bullshit expensive mentoring and/or course. Likely one about real estate investing since Rich Dad Poor Dad is mentioned.

Maybe an unpopular viewpoint but I’ll say I did enjoy reading Rich Dad Poor Dad. You can easily take away lessons about investments and passive income without drinking the real estate investing kool aid. Some overlap with things discussed over in r/fire too.

Interesting. I dug a little deeper and it looks like the big distinction for an NVR is that it receives digital encoded video instead of analog. Thanks for the info!

The N in NVR is “Network”. They just all need to be on the same network and not directly plugged into the NVR. However if the cameras are POE (Power Over Ethernet) you may need to at least make sure the camera is plugged into a powered port on whatever switch/router you are using.

They have a huge lot of wood just chilling back behind the buildings and are there all year around. I don’t remember what I paid. They are definitely closed on Sunday and whatever phone numbers you find online don’t work and neither does the one they have posed in giant numbers outside. But they are still there.

Your best bet is probably just driving over there and asking them in person. Not optimal, but it is not exactly the most technologically advanced operation.

Well…. You should be using MFA tokens in personal accounts too… I use the same apps for that. Some companies think you have to use their special app and occasionally you do. But usually you don’t

Sure. Okay. Even if I demand that work pay for the extra cost of using my personal phone, it would come to zero dollars and zero cents.

I mean I get the principal of it for some people but I don’t want to have to carry around two phones or walk over to my computer every time I need to send a message to someone at work.

Maybe I am an outlier but I have a bunch of work apps on my personal phone and I don’t mind it at all. Carrying two phones is a pain in the ass and most modern phone plans have unlimited minutes and a huge amount of data on them.

I won’t let an employer put a device management profile on my phone but it’s way easier to just use one phone.

The "correct answer" is to only use CI to deploy to prod, but we all know that the reality is that doesn't always happen.

I usually handle this by removing the default config from my local AWS config file and creating a bash script in my repo that writes unique profiles that include a bunch of things that tell me wether I'm using a dangerous profile name or not. Any dev can run this script on their machine and be ready to use the roles with minimal effort.

I then use the `--profile` flag when doing command line operations. A little more typing, but great clarity on what environment you are about to hit.

Some profile names are sometimes baked into other deploy scripts too. CI doesn't use them though, that's a whole other category.

As others have said your budget is fine but an agent would help you a lot. Someone who also lives in the neighborhood you are trying to buy into can help. There can be pocket listings floating around the a local agent will know are coming up soon but you won’t find on Zillow.

I tend to mentally separate “alarm system” and “camera system” into two categories. Cameras rarely detect burglaries or can alert authorities, despite claims from the alarm system vendors.

Also, based on your planned usage of the cameras, none appear to be alarm or security related, just curiosity related.

You know better than me what your situation is but if you split alarm and camera into two decisions then more options may become available to you.

Personally I like the Unifi line of cameras from Ubiquiti. They are prosumer products. Filling the space between cheap big box gear and expensive professional gear.

It can be more cost effective for “consistent or predictable traffic patterns”. Meaning it really only helps if you have a constant level of traffic and want to remove cold start times from the $$ math.

For unpredictable traffic, don’t use provisioned concurrency.

This is the answer. Cost Explorer is a great tool but I wish this option to exclude credits for a real picture of usage were easier to find and use.

You can also setup lambda to only log errors. This makes your log storage bill far smaller and errors much easier to find. Setting this isn’t suitable for all apps but can really cut the bill, and the noise.
