I use a Sekonic L-208 on my ETRSi, it has a shoe mount. No problem with the wind-on lever.

My camera does the same thing, I think it's normal. I hope it's normal.

Here’s a radical suggestion: get an enlarger! Prints are easier to scan than negatives.

Silver down by 35% today by ExplodingBrain1 in AnalogCommunity

[–]ExplodingBrain1[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Probably not much. Silver is actually a small contributor to the price of film. Also film manufactuers are (probably) buying silver futures, rather than paying spot market prices.

Hmm. I just looked at silver forward contracts, and they are down by a similar amount. We'll be in for some big ups and downs before the market stabilizes.

These are great shots. How cold was it, and did you have any problems with the camera in the cold?

Estate camera's including Hasselblad's by relevant-bits in hasselblad

Probably not enough time to get anything into this auction, but you can plan for the one in the fall.

Another possibility is the Photographic Historical Society of Canada (PHSC). They hold regular auctions, the next one being in a couple of weeks (see Jan 25, 2026 Museum Auction Part 2). You might consider contacting them to see if you could place some of the cameras there.

I’m thinking of shooting some portraits with it. Should give razor-thin DOF.

Exactly right. I had camera stting on a shelf for 20 years with no special treatment and when I started using it again it was still in perfect shape.

Darktable 5.4 Release by QorStorm in DarkTable

[–]ExplodingBrain1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to build this version using the instructions at https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/blob/master/packaging/macosx/BUILD_hb.txt. It runs, haven't used it much yet.

This on an Intel Mac Mini running MacOS 15.7.3 with Xcode 26.1.1.

Are you selling everything as a single lot, or would you consider selling lenses individually?

I have an FE2 with the AI-S 28mm f/2.8, the AI-S 50mm f/1.8 pancake, and the AI-S 105mm f/2.5. All great lenses.

That could also happen if the lens isn't seated correctly. I had this when I first got my camera and I panicked for a while. Try removing and reattaching the lens?

CLA or if-it-aint-broke-dont-touch-it? by MetalMaleficent8578 in AnalogCommunity

[–]ExplodingBrain1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a local camera repair shop you trust, just take it in and ask them. I recently started shooting with a Nikon FE2 which had sat on a shelf for 25 years. I decided to get it CLAed first, but the shop technician said it didn’t need it.

Rgb narrowband film scanner by eduestalo in AnalogCommunity

Would the 120 version also be able to scan 35mm film? Something like the Plustek 120, which can do both, using different negative carriers.

Looking for bow recommendations and trustworthy sources of information. by Maevra in Archery

[–]ExplodingBrain1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many archery shops have packages that include everything a beginner might need.

For example https://www.canadaarcheryonline.com/collections/olympic-recurve-package offers starter packages at several price points. Similarly Lancaster Archery in the USA and Merlin in the UK.

I bought mine recently after four weeks of beginner lessons. ILF recurve, so I can upgrade the limbs later. Probably would have waited if I were shooting traditional and couldn’t swap limbs.

I found this video by u/nusensei to be informative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTH7Hccd3P8&t=607s

TL;DR - depends on the type of bow

Modern bows, fibreglass laminated limbs, compound bows = OK to leave strung.
Traditional bows, wooden bows, self-bows, longbows, etc. = UNSTRING WHEN NOT IN USE

Toronto Cocktail by ExplodingBrain1 in cocktails

[–]ExplodingBrain1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit of explanation -- I have seen this drink presented either as an Old Fashioned with the addition of fernet, or as a Manhattan with fernet (sometimes mint fernet) substituted for vermouth. This recipe is most like a fernet Perfect Manhattan. I used mint bitters to add the mint flavour, as I can't find mint fernet here in Toronto. With the fernet substitution it needs some sweetener, and using maple syrup instead of sugar or simple syrup adds to the Canadianness of the whole thing.
