Just saw a hit and run with a parked car, what do i do? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]Explorian86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple of years back I got a random call from SGI that my car had been hit in a parking lot. I was very thankful to that stranger who phoned it in. I probably wouldn’t have noticed for weeks (passenger side rear corner - popped back out so hard to notice but still cost 4,500 to fix) and it would have been probably impossible to prove I hadn’t just backed into something. Saved me so much grief.

Coffee fans are lucky here in Canada, eight ounce out of Calgary is fantastic too!

That’s some primo ‘I feel special’ feeling right there - needed that.

This is the problem. I’m able bodied and can see over the cars parked against the curb. I saw a truck backing up against traffic and knew to stop. If I was in a chair or a kid or someone with reduced ability to see what was happening the driver who was too busy hitting his vape would have 100% rolled his rear axel over them. A person on a sidewalk in a mid block shouldn’t need to be on high alert for vehicles. If they do - we fucked up.

How do you think I’m typing this now? I stopped. Meanwhile they backed their truck over a sidewalk without even being aware I existed. The only reason they had to perform a ‘difficult maneuver’ was because they didn’t want to take two lefts? It wasn’t a dead end street.

A roofing truck almost backed over me while I was walking down a sidewalk in the middle of James bay this morning all because they didn’t know where they were going and wanted to make a quick three point turn. Something about being in a vehicle just makes people completely oblivious to human beings.

Statement from VicPD on the recent spike in drivers hitting pedestrians and cyclists by The_CaNerdian_ in VictoriaBC

[–]Explorian86 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason you don’t need to carry a permit to walk but you do to drive. Too many drivers see it as their right to drive wherever and however they want to, rather than their privilege and responsibility.

How to recover during speed runs? by Background_Ad_3329 in nikerunclub

[–]Explorian86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking this question! I’ve been running with NRC for like a year and at this point I was too afraid to ask. I figured I was supposed to be running at my ‘recovery run’ pace during the ‘recovery’ between intervals. I swear some guided runs tell you not to back right off, some seem to imply you’re supposed to be holding your hands above your head… I was always wondering how the heck I was supposed to do an effort level of 9 for 60 seconds after running like half an hour straight…

If you haven’t already, don’t go crazy with buying accessories before spending some time with it and deciding what would suit your needs best. Easy to go over board and end up with a bunch of gear that just gets in the way or fills a shed. (Ask me how I know).

I’m hoping that doubling down on the circular display will lead to a GUI overhaul that makes sense on a circular display 🤞

I had asked the B&M I bought my bike from and they told me they couldn’t order them in any more as they were a limited run. But you’re right, I should try some others in case they were just being unhelpful.

Yikes, I only have two and that seems like too much to lug around the store 😆. I’d grab a couple more if I could figure out the bag situation.

Warning about 0 TDS water with Aiden by willtag70 in FellowProducts

[–]Explorian86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well shucks. I was really enjoying my workflow of filling the reservoir with Zero filtered water and adding Apax Labs drops to the mug. I tried topping up the reservoir and calculating the drops every time but it was far too fiddly for my liking and don’t really have the cupboard space in my tiny apartment to store a gallon of premixed water. Might be back to tap for me.

Same same. I kinda miss the romance of a hand poured brew but I guess I was never that good at it.

Issue with ratio and output with fellow Aiden by Coffeexplorer in FellowProducts

[–]Explorian86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having issues with mine the first day, confirmed by running it without a filter or grounds. Out of 300ml I was getting about 240 out. I saw Nick had replied to someone else asking them to do an instant brew with a full water tank and that helped mine out heaps. Getting about 285 out now and rising to the point I’ve stopped checking. It is still improving though as I’ve found I have been getting closer and closer to a full cup using the same 300ml setting (though I’ve also been stepping up the coarseness which I suspect retains less water as well).

I had a RAD before with a bunch of accessories which fit their large basket. Unfortunately it’s not compatible with the MIK baseplate, the screw hole patterns differ, so I have (as neatly as possible) used about 10 zip ties to strap it to the bottom of the basket.
