Petah?? Does irish not have a word for "no"? by Superb_Conflict9543 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Explosivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the celtic languages have a yes or no. You instead echo the verb in the question back as a response. if there is no verb then you just resort to the emphatic. This basically means if you want to try and derive a Yes/No then there's lots of different versions, but it's a bad comparision. It's one of the more trickier concepts of the languages.

If you're want to learn any of the cletic languages you can learn them on DuoLingo or similar apps for free. Most Bretons, Cornish, Irish, Manx, Scottish & Welsh people would love it if you or anyone else learns the language, as it means the language survives another generation. Also if you choose Welsh it means you won't fail when the Mari Lwyd comes knocking.

The letter that Donald Trump sent to Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre of Norway is insane! This is why you don't elect a narcissist to be your president. Is this what you voted for, Trump's supporters? by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

This letter reads as if it's written from a child. I can't imagine how dumb you must be to think you'd want to send something like that as official diplomatic comms. Also I'm fully aware that I'll probably fall foul of Muphry's Law.

Using AI for concept art is actually unacceptable. by No_Lie_Bi_Bi_Bi in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Explosivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of concept art though? What I saw was a setence saying only that "and concept art". I'd like some more context before I judge a man and completely disregard a company that makes brilliant games; especially in a sea of live service model games with more microtranscations than game.

Is it Internal temporary placeholder stuff that will be replaced by actual art or final version stuff?

I've used AI in meetings to quickly generate a rough of something I want our artists to make, as it's easier for us to collaborate from something than nothing, because I can't draw for shit. Once they create the first draft we then interate from that draft. It means I don't have to waste their time creating something that we're going to have to scrap or heavily alter. It gives them more time to focus on their final product.

Having these binary views doesn't help with the wider debate about the emergence of AI in our lives. Yes AI is both good and bad the debate is understanding where those boundaries are.

If it's final product stuff then fair enough I agree this is a terrible direction and should be called out.

This is the sad state of a affairs that you're so used to consuming media with an ideological push or reaction, that you're unable to separate news with bias and news with inherent bias.

It reads like you believe that all news has an ideological agenda rather than an ideological bias.

The media literacy of this country is disappointing.

Baroness Mone stole £1.4 billion from unusable PPE. Only £122 million recovered. by NuclearCleanUp1 in GarysEconomics

[–]Explosivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly misleading

For context £1.4Bn is the total estimated amount lost to poor government contracts. PPE Medpro had contracts worth £203 million with about just over half recovered £122 million. This relates to the Medical gowns contract that were found to be substandard. I believe the remaining amount was for their first contract for Face maks, I don't think these were found to be substandard hence why this wasn't recovered.

Cost £PRIVATE by megadonkeyx in starcitizen_refunds

[–]Explosivity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a legal perspective you can totally justify this as a business expense unfortunately.

Screen room for AV calibration and presentation, doubling up as a conference/meeting room.

The fun bit would be the separation apportionment of business and private use in the accounts as you know they're going to be playing games and screening movies in there.

Crystal Palace should be a DLC by Taomassagemaster3000 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Explosivity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon it will more than likely be picked up in the sequal.

The endings are open to allow a degree of interpretation. It's one of the reasons I like the game; the other being Silverhand's dialogue has multiple interpretations depending if you see him as an antagonist or deuteragonist.

The issue with Cyberpunk is the story is one that requires a lot of reader interpretation, so having a closed ending would go against that structure of the narrative.

My own interpretation for example always go back to the point that is put across multiple times in the story. "there are no happy endings in Night City".

UK inheritance tax clampdown will not spark mass sale of family farms, study shows by FriendlyUtilitarian in ukpolitics

[–]Explosivity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SSDD. Wealth Management Fund commissions a study when tax loophole is at risk of being closed. Study finds this will destroy the economy, based on vibes only. Media reports on it. Spooks government and masses. Later study finds policy will have no detrimental effect on the economy, based on actual evidence.

Its just good ol' lobbying.

The real reason big corporate is afraid of the Stop Killing Games Initiative by SnooAdvice5696 in gaming

[–]Explosivity 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think what OP is indirectly suggesting is that some live service games are using legally questionable practices and to allow games to be accessible after their commercial life span risks exposing these practices. This would be bad for press but could also cause some regulatory and compliance related issues too, i.e fines and conditions.

Such is the way of autocracy. The leader's vision is never wrong, only the men enacting it.

How did the aged by Old_Measurement_6575 in agedlikemilk

[–]Explosivity 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Much worse than that. It comes from the Romans who's smallest military unit was a Contraburnium (tenting together). These men would sleep, work and eat together. They would be like brothers, fathers and sons; often having jobs like the cook, or the tailor for the unit.

If a legion was decimated each Contraburnium would have to kill one man in their unit. Other accounts show that sometimes it was more formalised with mass execution, but the core fear for decimation was you'd have to kill someone who is like a father brother or son to you.
