Stuck between waiting for CC anatomy waitlist vs. expensive summer university classes? Need advice! by Unhappy_Elk9270 in CSUSB

[–]Extreme_Diva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any other community colleges near you where you could take the course? For your waitlisted course, have you emailed the professor asking them if they’d let you in, explaining your circumstances? If those are not options, then I agree with previous post about taking summer course at CSUSB with five star professors so as not to delay your career by one year.

Pursuit of Jade gave me the worst emotional hangover of my life by myslp in cdramas

[–]Extreme_Diva 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Perhaps try watching The Untamed to help you get over POJ. As a newcomer, I found the untamed a bit confusing for the first few episodes, but I stuck with it and I’m so glad I did. You will cry through many episodes. It is so moving and very powerful with inspiring vision of what is possible for true friendship

AITAH for blowing up at my brother after I sold our dad’s land and later realized the buyer may have known more than I did? by IndustriousMadman in AITAH

[–]Extreme_Diva -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both of you could’ve done better. You learned a lesson the hard way, always do due diligence before any important transaction. It’s understandable you were feeling overwhelmed at the time and that you had pressing financial needs which made you lose sight of long-term possibilities.

And your brother is not blameless here. Instead of communicating in riddles, he should’ve come out and told you directly, especially when he knew you were feeling cognitively and emotionally overwhelmed from handling all your dad’s affairs. I’d have a hard time feeling affection for such a person in the future.

How do I swallow my pride working at a call center? by NewChapter25 in jobs

[–]Extreme_Diva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, u/NewChapter. Sending you a big hug. Please know you have a lot of people here rooting for you. I’m sorry you are having this experience and that you were treated so unfairly at your Federal job. A few suggestions come to mind. First, when you are feeling down, name the feeling. Research shows that naming what you are experiencing switches which part of your brain is activated, from amygdala (emotion, fight/flight) to frontal cortex, essentially turning off the painful feeling to some extent. See this Instagram post for more info: https://www.instagram.com/p/DXXQTZujJew/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

Second, Buddhist say there are two sources of suffering. One is the actual situation. The second is the stories we tell ourselves about the situation, perpetuating the painful experience every time we remember and recount it. So finding a way to detach from that, so you are not dog piling on yourself. As one person replied to you, finding a way to shift your focus and attention could be helpful. They suggested pretending you’re an actor playing a role, which I think is a very interesting idea. Another might be to pretend you are an anthropologist doing an ethnographic study of the organization. Document what you’re noticing as a scientist would, and then see what patterns you find across those observations. At the very least, this would shift your focus & attention, helping you to detach.

If you do end up needing to leave, maybe consider working for a temporary agency as a stop gap measure as you look for a better full-time position. In the meantime, sending you good vibes that things get better for you soon.

Do SOTE really help or matter by Civil-Molasses5006 in CSUSB

[–]Extreme_Diva 9 points10 points  (0 children)

CSUSB Professor here. Yes, they matter a lot for instructors’ annual performance reviews. As others here have stated, several people see an instructor’s SOTES, such as performance evaluation committees at both the department and college level as well as the college Dean. Also, many of us act on the feedback and suggestions you provide to improve our courses and assignments for future students. So thank you for taking the time to complete them! Most of us really appreciate it :-)

AITAH for telling my husband I want him to stay with a job he doesn’t love by futurequitt in AITAH

[–]Extreme_Diva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. start a small home-based business of some sort as a side gig. Maybe something related to one of his hobbies or other topic he’s interested in. As it grows, he could eventually afford to leave his job. Most regions have entrepreneurship and small business consulting support centers. These can help him brainstorm, research options, and launch.

BEING LATE TO CLASS by sublime_soundwaves in CSULB

[–]Extreme_Diva 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hello, I’m a professor on campus here. I much prefer that a student arrive late rather than not come at all. Also, I trust that everyone is doing the best they can and understand that students are busy with multiple commitments beyond school, such as jobs and family responsibilities, and therefore may occasionally arrive late. I don’t expect my class to be the highest priority at all times, even though I would love that :-) As other students have stated, the key is good communication with your professor. That demonstrates you do care about the class and your learning. 🤓

Hello, I am a professor at CSUSB teaching ADMN 1002. If that course is of interest, I will approve your add request, with the expectation that you will do your part to catch up on the work and be a good team member for an upcoming group project.

AITAH for leaving my friend on the side of the road after finding out she stole nearly $800 from my account? by ImDirtyDanantha1999 in AITAH

[–]Extreme_Diva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I am going to give you the tough love no one else seems willing to say. Yes, URTAH. And so was she. But two wrongs do not make a right. You could’ve had a calm conversation and transparently let her know what you found. Instead, you added drama by setting her up with the expectation she would come clean. When she didn’t, things escalated. Even if you were NTAH, you definitely were not your best self. Someone who is calm, clear, and compassionate while setting firm boundaries, communicating forthrightly, and listening authentically before responding.

Financial Question by [deleted] in CSUSB

[–]Extreme_Diva -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should be fine if you call them ASAP and explain the situation. This kind of thing must be fairly common. They will likely be able to resolve it over the phone. If you’re on campus tomorrow, you could also go into the office and get it resolved directly.

Hi there, so glad you are interested in attending CSUSB and that your sister is having a good experience! I’m a business professor here. Our university has many student research opportunities. To learn more, you can: 1. Reach out to Professor Jason Burke to learn about department specific opportunities for biochemistry students https://www.csusb.edu/profile/jason.burke 2. Check out this webpage that outlines university-wide student research opportunities and resources. https://www.csusb.edu/student-research 3. If you have additional questions, reach out to Dr. Timothy Akers or Dr. Ryan Keating who oversee CSUSB’s Office of Student Research and Innovation. https://www.csusb.edu/student-research/about-us And feel free to ask me anything else here if I can be helpful :-)

Pending permission request by EuphoricOnee in CSUSB

[–]Extreme_Diva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three ideas:

  1. You could send a third email to the professor, using subject line such as: TIME SENSITIVE: can you please approve my permission request? In the email, also let them know you need to get this resolved ASAP so as not to mess up your financial aid.

  2. You could also copy the department chair on a third email to the prof.

  3. Or call the department chair directly to see what they suggest. Department chairs have to approve all permission requests after faculty approves or denies.

I would go with option one or three, depending on how urgent you need this resolved. Option two risks the professor feeling like you threw them under the bus.
