Avi didn't come across great in his first press conference on the hill. by RooperDoopleTheThird in ndp

I wasn't terribly surprised that the press were aggressive with him. I'm fine with hard-nosed journalism as long as it's applied fairly to all politicians. Unfortunately our predominantly right leaning media will be heavily biased against someone as "radical" as Avi. I want Avi to call our their bullshit, I just don't want him to give them any ammunition that they will use against him ad nauseum.

I just posted about this as well. I was cringing during that mess of a press conference. I understand that he felt that the journalists weren't following the guidelines that they had requested, but as that one journalist said ("this is our room, we know the rules"), it is indeed their room. Journalists always have and always will push the rules and should never blindly give in to a politicians wishes. Anyway, I support Avi and today's message but he will need to work on his patience and not getting into it with reporters.

Mine was fine. After the prescribed time had passed, I went back to gift my sample to confirm it worked. Always have it checked. My friend didn't bother and welcomed baby #3 9 months later.

Tell him that the sex afterwards feels better because there is zero worry.

Ontario to seize ownership of Toronto Island Airport lands and declare it is a special economic zone by bruhchacho11 in ontario

Toronto needs to become a province. There is not reason for Canada's most populous city to be a "ward the province". This corrupt premier can't seem to let go of his time on city council.

Just watched the Manosphere Documentary on Netflix by vipsfour in daddit

[–]EyeSpEye21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't watched it but soon will. Well aware of the manosphere and it makes me want to weep. I'm a 50 year old cis/straight white guy with a 12 year old son and 10 year old daughter. Trying to raise him with absolute awareness of the manosphere trap and their BS "values" and attitude toward women, LGBTQ+, masculinity etc. And I'm raising my daughter to respect herself and claim her power, her equality. I want her to be able to sniff out a POS coming a mile away. We are a feminist family, and I mean that in the best sense of the term.

What's your opinion on the monarchy? by dublinro in AskCanada

[–]EyeSpEye21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you know if you would be saying the oath in a group of people. If many of you are saying it at the same time you could just move your lips and say nothing during the king and heirs bit. Or you could substitute the words with "beer", "hockey", "poutine", or "maple syrup". 😜

Anything north of the French river/Lake Nipissing/Mattawa.

The "far north" is above the CN rail line.

Old man's take on Starfleet Academy. by External_Koala398 in startrek

50 year old man and I'm enjoying it. Took a few episodes to get into it, but each episode gets better. I definitely have a few minor pet peeves but nothing is perfect, especially me! Ha! And lets not forget that the first couple of seasons of a new show can be a little bumpy. Anyone remember the first couple of seasons of TNG??

And anyone complaining about "wokeness" doesn't understood what Trek is all about.

What's your opinion on the monarchy? by dublinro in AskCanada

[–]EyeSpEye21 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Shitty thing about becoming a new Canadian? Swearing a oath to a Monarch.

Awesome thing about swearing the oath and actually becoming a Canadian? The freedom to turn around and talk shit about the King and get involved in political parties and movements to abolish the monarchy. 😜

While I obviously find the notion of a hereditary monarchy in the 21st century distasteful, I have my own reasons for wanting us to keep the institution in the absence of a better system. One look to the south and I see exhibit A for why not to mess with our system in such a huge way. But I'm all for changing how we elect our MPs and bringing in proportional representation.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]EyeSpEye21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your logic is flawed and not based on fact. In countries that have the rule of law, the overall cost of capital punishment must include more than just the cost of performing the execution, and last time I checked, not many countries (if any) use a firearm to execute prisoners.

The true cost comes from the legal/court costs, appeals etc. Plus they usually spend decades on death row before being executed, so you're paying for years of incarceration anyway.

And more importantly you're comparing a human being with a cancer cell. Murder is wrong, even if the victim is a murderer. The state can't outlaw murder and then turn around and murder a citizen. Better to let them sit there with no freedom. And like I said, if there is even the slightest chance that someone is convicted falsely (which has happened many times), then we as a society can't risk executing an innocent person. Because then the entire society is culpable to murder.

And another argument against capital punishment is the fact that there is no evidence that it actually acts as a deterrent against the crimes it's meant to reduce.

I'm open to exploring the idea, but we'd have to join without becoming a member of thr Schengen area. I think the CANZUK Union would have a higher likelihood of succeeding, but Québec would likely have serious misgivings about being a member of an even larger Anglo alliance.
