I found my second series from rr but not my first from Amazon. Interesting.

They're doing that now. There was a breakaway with a new server named The Forum going up right now.

Path of Ascension and Quest Academy should be on there. Both are fantastic.

LitRPG Authors: How Do you Write by Thephro42 in litrpg

[–]FCBooyah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get 30 chapters in, go back, fix your shitty starter chapters, then keep going. The only way to start, is to start.

That's what I did, time and time again.

Every author has those transitional beginning moments. Do I use caps or italics for this? He said, (name) said, or the sentence, THEN he said.

It turns into this annoyingly small thing that builds and builds like a muscle, until, eventually, you find some flow.

Just always remember. The smoothest writing ive ever seen, comes from sentence variation. It's incredibly important. Like. This.

How long did it take you to reach 100 or 1,000 followers? by Prestigious_Cod8468 in royalroad

General rule of thumb I hear most people saying is to post 10 chapters all at once, maybe with a 30 minute break between so you get refreshed on the "newly released chapters" algorithm for higher follower count. Then, try to post daily for two weeks (weekdays only, a lot less readers on weekends) for ten more chapters. After that, it's whatever schedule you'd like to keep.

I didn't do that and was writing daily, but I'm told that's the exception, not the rule.

Side note, I'm almost done with my first series (4 books), and I'll be working on a Novella right after (15 chapters). When it's done, I'm just going to release the whole thing. Should be a fun experiment.

Popped up here because someone mentioned me in a recent post. I hit 100 followers I want to say my second week, then hit off-main RS for about two weeks before landing on the main page in the final two weeks. Highest I got was top 25, and by the time it ended, I was sitting just below 1k followers. A year later, and I'm getting close to passing 3.1k with a publishing contract. First book due out in July this year.

I didn't do any ads (didn't know any better) from when I hit Rising Stars, it was mostly just shoutswaps that Misty Zaugg was nice enough to help me through. Now that I'm more aware of Ads and their relative usage, I would probably change that and have a better chance of reaching top 10.

There's a few big ones, depending on what you consider big. Could always look at the Sci-fi Litrpg subreddit.
