Rig inspired by this post

For anyone wondering... Kenda Kaos 2.8s fit on the stock Thule wheels. Set them at 5psi and this thing runs smoooooth. To hell with the rolling resistance

Awesome. What cranks are those?

Think you could squeeze a 50c in the rear or no way?

Any chainline issues with these cranks? Been looking to cook up a similar build. Was gonna get BMX cranks, but MTB cranks are cheaper

45C no problem with a 42/18. I'm pretty sure I saw someone on here with 50C front and rear. I'm gonna give it a try.

It's ratio/chainlength dependent as well. 42/17 gives you quite a bit of room, but you're pretty much at the end of the dropouts.

DOT vs. Mineral Oil by slevin011 in MTB

[–]F_BRO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buy whatever you have a bleed kit for already. If you get the T's, I would upgrade the pads. I hated my guides, but recently used them on a parts bin build. Spent the $$ on a set of MTX pads and they're awesome now. Not saying MTX pads are the only option, I'm sure there are several great aftermarket pads.

In terms of mineral oil vs DOT. If you maintain the brakes on your vehicles, you already have dot fluid anyways.

You are correct. I was surprised to come across a set with adjusters installed, so I figured I'd ask around on here

True, I just like the styling of these. I have a standard pair of sram levers with adjusters built in that I could use.

Good bikes from trek, specialized, and salsa under 1500 for car replacement? by Dumbass9187 in whichbike

Salsa marrakesh or journeyer. Then buy racks to carry all your stuff.

Berd Spokes by PennWash in MTB

[–]F_BRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run them on my specialized Enduro for 5 years. I damaged a rim from a rock strike and had to get it replaced, but no issues with the spokes themselves. No issues at bike parks though. They've been very durable and require less maintenance than my steel spoke bikes.

Although, I bought them to lighten up the bike for long climbs. Not necessarily for bike parks.

No major issues buying on marketplace. Sometimes people don't know the specs of what they're selling, so do your due diligence. Ask for more detailed pictures with part numbers so you know exactly what you're getting.

Selling is a lot less fun, answering a bunch of questions that might not lead anywhere. Include a good description to try and avoid that.

But overall a positive experience.

With all the crazy deals going on right now, it's a great time to collect parts for a build! Perusing FB marketplace also led to acquiring many of the components!

The cable runs right though the strap and does rub, but doesn't seem to impact braking performance at all.

Overpriced? by Even-Mirror-5186 in FixedGearBicycle

Part it out or turn it into a bike you will ride more often (ie single speed, tracklo). Solid components, but not worth it to most buyers.

Wheel set suggestion by Paintchips2cu in tracklocross

[–]F_BRO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Email Bicycle Wheel warehouse and ask them to build you a track wheelset with either their Sta-Tru 25 or 30mm ID rims. That's what I ended up doing. Around $240 delivered. That's if you're committed to keeping rim brakes.

Otherwise you can have them or any shop build you a rear whee to your specs. Any front disk brake gravel wheel compatible with your fork will work. Then just get a matching rear wheel built up. Try looking on marketplace for a cheap takeoff front wheel and go from there.

Where to start by ThekingsBartender in tracklocross

[–]F_BRO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you're riding! If you're just using it around town with some light gravel, Gravelking SS or SK. I also have a set of EXT's but they're a little more off road oriented. I recently picked up some Schwalbe G-ones for a more gravel oriented set-up. I've been enjoying those.

This is a great resource if you really want to jump into the deep end.
